Osaka, who has revealed she suffers from social anxiety and depression, especially in public, gave a speech that lasted less than a minute. Her voice slightly quavering, the four-time major winner led with honesty.
“I just really not want to say a long speech because I’m a bit nervous,” she said as shouts of support rang out from the audience.
After thanking ESPN and her fans Osaka continued, “I know this year’s been really — it hasn’t even finished — but it’s been really tough for a lot of us and, for me, I just want to say I really love you guys.”

Christina Ricci is "Born to Be a Star."
The actress has signed on for the porn-tinged comedy that Adam Sandler co-wrote and is producing with Jack Giarraputo. Longtime Sandler associates Allen Covert and Barry Bernardi also are producing the flick, which Tom Brady is directing.
The story centers on a small-town nerd who stumbles upon a family secret: His quiet and demure parents were famous porn stars in the 1970s. This motivates him to leave Northern Iowa for Hollywood, hoping to follow in their footsteps and fulfill his destiny as the biggest adult-film star in the world.
Ricci, the female lead, is the guy's innocent girlfriend.
Despite Sandler and Giarraputo's involvement, the movie is not a Happy Madison production but rather by porn title-friendly entity Miles Deep Prods. The movie will act as a negative pickup for Sony, which will release it through one of its labels.
Nick Swardson is co-producing.

'Maid' dusts off top spot
In a weekend upset, Sony's Maid in Manhattan cleaned up at the boxoffice as the Jennifer Lopez-Ralph Fiennes starrer from Revolution Studios had a stronger-than-expected performance with an estimated $19 million, in the process edging out Paramount's Star Trek Nemesis for the top spot. Heading into the weekend, Nemesis was considered the front-runner by many industry observers, but the 10th installment of the long-running franchise beamed up a somewhat disappointing estimate of $18.8 million and had to settle for the second spot. 20th Century Fox's Drumline debuted on an upbeat note in the third spot, generating an estimated $13.1 million from 1,833 theaters. The weakest debut of the wide releases was Buena Vista's The Hot Chick, a PG-13 rated comedy starring Rob Schneider. The Tom Brady-directed picture tied for the fourth slot with MGM's Die Another Day as it picked up an estimated $7.5 million.
