Creed 2 has a new director, as Sylvester Stallone drops out of directing the movie...
Sylvester Stallone has opted to relinquish the director’s chair for the forthcoming Creed 2, having previously announced that he was planning to helm the picture. Stallone has penned the screenplay for the movie (along with Cheo Hodari Coker), and is expected to reprise the role of Rocky Balboa in it.
However, the new director for the film will be Steven Caple Jr. It’ll be his first big studio film, having previously made Sundance success The Land.
Michael B Jordan is reprising the role of Adonis Creed in the new movie, whilst it’s now been confirmed that Tessa Thompson will be returning as Bianca, too.
Stallone’s stepping away from directing was his own call, following conversations with Michael B Jordan and Warner Bros executives.
Filming is expected to start early next year.

“The revolution will be live,” promises the hip-hop-inflected new trailer for “Black Panther,” the upcoming Marvel superhero movie from “Creed” director Ryan Coogler. In the action-packed clip, the scene pivots from dank offices and modern urban streets to the advanced, Afro-futurist kingdom of Wakanda where T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) has returned after the death of his father the king. It’s underscored by heavy use of Gil Scott Heron’s iconic 1970 poem “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” along with a new cut by Vince Staples. When a powerful old enemy reappears in the form of Erik Killmonger (a decidedly buff Michael B.

Creed 2 will be in cinemas in just over a year, it's been announced...
There’s significant progress in the land of Creed, with the news that the sequel is pressing ahead early next year, and it has a director in place.
That director is Sylvester Stallone, going behind the camera for the first time since 2010's The Expendables. He’s confirmed on his Instagram account that he’ll be helming the new film, rather than Ryan Coogler, who scored such a success with the first Creed. That said, Stallone has the small matter of four Rocky films he’s directed under his belt. He’s hardly a slouch, here.
Michael B Jordan will be back in the title role, with Dolph Lundgren appearing as Ivan Drago in the new movie.
Production begins early in 2018, and a release date for the movie has now been announced. It'll land...

Last night Sylvester Stallone announced on Instagram that he will be directing “Creed 2.” “Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in Creed 2 next year … One more Round!,” wrote Stallone.
Stallone has previously said he had completed writing the first draft of the script for “Creed 2” and hinted he is bringing back Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago character (and presumedly his offspring) from “Rocky 4.” Last month Stallone also announced production would begin in 2018, although distributor MGM told Variety the project was still in development.
In addition to writing and starring in the original “Rocky,” Stallone had directed four of the previous sequels, including “Rocky Balboa” — made 30 years after the original, when Stallone was 60 years old — which was assumed to bring closure to the successful franchise.

Sylvester Stallone recently confirmed on his Instagram account that he's not only staring in and producing Creed 2, but he's directing it as well! Yep, Stallone is getting back behind the camera to direct again. The last movie that he directed was The Expendables back in 2010. In regards to Creed 2, Stallone made the following statement:
“Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in Creed 2 next year … One more Round !”
I think it's great that Stallone will be directing Creed 2! I loved the first film and I'm excited about this sequel, especially because Dolph Lundgren is set to reprise his role of the Russian boxer Ivan Drago. He has already started his training! The thought of seeing Rocky and Drago coming face to face again is exciting!
There are no details on the story for the sequel yet, but there's a good chance that we'll see Michael B.

Creed 2 could be with us next year, suggests Sylvester Stallone in a new post...
It looks as if the sequel to the Oscar-nominated Creed may be getting up and running next year. It’s been waiting on a few things. Firstly, there’s the screenplay that Sylvester Stallone has been penning. Then there’s Dolph Lundgren, back in training to reprise the role of Ivan Drago in the new movie.
And, of course, there are two key creations. Director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B Jordan have been busy making Black Panther, that’s set to arrive in cinemas early next year.
Once that’s done, though, the pair will be free to make a fresh addition to the Rocky boxset, and in his latest Instagram post, Sylvester Stallone has strongly suggested that we’ll be seeing Creed 2 in 2018.
Here’s the post in question…

Michael Shannon and Michael B Jordan will star in HBO's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's sci-fi cautionary tale, Fahrenheit 451.
HBO heard that you like dystopias, so they're going back in the vaults to bring you one of the seminal dystopian works in all of fiction. HBO is developing a Fahrenheit 451 movie, based on Ray Bradbury's classic work of disturbing and increasingly prescient sci-fi. In the 1953 novel, released during the peak of the McCarthy era panic, books are outlawed and 'firemen' go around to make sure that they go up in smoke, lest any unapproved ideas make their way out into the world.
In the unlikely event that the words HBO and Fahrenheit 451 in close proximity to each other aren't enough to get you excited, perhaps the cast will.

A big name star is joining the ranks of talents that have premiered in 2K's NBA series! Creed star Michael B. Jordan will be part of the NBA 2K17 MyCareer experience! Come inside for more details.
In NBA 2K16, Director Spike Lee played an integral part in the formation of that season's MyCareer mode by developing a unique storyline for the game. Keeping up with that theme, 2K has hired the rising star of Creed, Michael B. Jordan, to play an original character in NBA 2K17's MyCareer.
The role sees Jordan playing as Justice Young, who is described as a rising NBA star that teams up with your original MyPlayer. Young's relationship with your player is one as a friend and support system as you both go through what it takes to be an NBA star. 2K also announced that in-game choices will also impact what happens on and off the court.

We learned Disney star Zendaya was cast in Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming back in March but a new rumor of who she's playing has some fans outraged. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has made lengthy comments about race, comic book casting, and fan reaction. Details were scarce in the initial report which said Zendaya would be playing "Michelle." At the time I assumed it was likely a coverup to keep the secret of who she was really playing under wraps for a while. The rumor now is she's actually playing Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's long-standing love interest. Some fans did not want to accept this news because Mj is portrayed in the comics as a white woman with red hair. Many other fans were quick to argue it wasn't a big deal, some with the most simplest of responses: @r_scottc so you're good then?...

Yesterday, we reported that actress Zendaya was rumored to be Playing The Role Of Mary Jane in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film. Admittedly I expected to hear a lot more vehement outcry from fans on this one than we ended up getting (if you look at the comments in that article, everyone is being surprisingly civil -- even those who aren't too happy with her being cast. Go Lrm readers!), but of course, there were a few bad eggs who couldn't overlook the fact that Zendaya isn't a redhead.
If there's one person who isn't one to stay quiet on social media, it's Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. He took to Facebook to express his two cents on the knee-jerk reaction some fans had to the casting rumor -- it's also worth noting that James Gunn stated he still has no idea which role Zendaya is playing, so...

Along with them onstage came newly minted co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, who will play Nakia; Coogler’s Creed star Michael B Jordan, who will play the villain Killmonger; and The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira as Okoye. Kevin Feige presided over a boisterous Marvel Studios panel that brought new trailers from Doctor Strange and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, as well as footage from the sets of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok.
At San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Marvel studio president Kevin Feige unveiled a new company logo and introduced Chadwick Boseman and his fellow Black Panther cast members alongside director Ryan Coogler ahead of an early 2017 production start.
While that project is expected to strike a blow for diversity at a point in modern history that could not seem timelier, Marvel referenced another welcome development when Feige brought its Captain Marvel star Brie Larson on to the stage for a group shot.
That was the final act of the presentation and nothing more was revealed about Marvel’s first female-led superhero adaptation, which will open in theatres on March 8, 2019. Warner Bros has stolen a march in the gender wars, however, and will...

Captain America: Civil War introduced Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's T.Challa.s solo movie in 2018 that will fully establish his world. Although actors like Luptia Nyong.o and Michael B Jordan have either been cast or are in negotiations to join Black Panther, the movie has yet to announce any of its characters outside of (of course) Chadwick Boseman reprising T.Challa. Now a casting call list has made its way online, and among the folks mentioned are two familiar faces from the McU: Ulysses Klaue and Everett Ross. In the midst of allies like Monica Lynne and villains like Erik Killmonger, a listing from Movie Casting Call names Andy Serkis. Klaue and Martin Freeman.s Ross among the characters who will appear in Black Panther. Because this cast list includes almost every major supporting character and villain from the Black Panther comics, it should...

One year on, the impact crater of Josh Trank's "Fantasic Four" remains - effectively killing any chance of those Marvel heroes making a return appearance in the near future.
Yet those involved, more specifically co-writer and producer Simon Kinberg, are still holding out hope for a follow-up even though the first was such a mess. Talking about the first film's failure, he told Den of Geek this week:
"We didn't make a good movie, and the world voted, and I think they probably voted correctly. And you can't make a good movie every time out - not everybody does. We actually have a pretty good batting average, all things considered. But I think we made many mistakes when we made that movie - mistakes that we learned from and we wouldn't repeat.

Michael B Jordan to become the second Human Torch to defect from Fox to Marvel.
More news from the world of Black Panther. Just days after finding out that Lupita Nyong'o is in negotiations to join the Black Panther cast, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michael B. Jordan has joined the film.
For those keeping track, this marks the second a Human Torch has defected from Fox to join Marvel. Chris Evans also previously played an on-screen version of Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm before starring in the Marvel cinematic universe. Hopefully, Jordan's transition will be as smooth.
Jordon's casting isn't so surprising, given that he has worked with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler on the director's previous two films, Creed and Fruitvale Station. In fact, Jordan starred in them. It's also worth noting that Jordan's Creed co-star Tessa Thompson has herself signed on to join the McU.

Michael B Jordan will reteam with his Creed director Ryan Coogler for Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, inking a deal to join movie's buzzy cast, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. This would be the third time that Jordan will work with Coogler, who is helming the comic book movie as well as writing the script with Joe Robert Cole. The first time the duo came together was for the indie drama Fruitvale Station. Chadwick Boseman is toplining Black Panther while Lupita Nyong’o is in negotiations to star alongside him. Much has been written and said about last year's Fantastic Four movie. It's been called joyless, incoherent, and at odds with its own self throughout the whole story. Fans didn't take to the film either, and the film ultimately turned out to be quite the financial flop for Fox. The movie seemed to be a cautionary tale of what happens when a director is at odds with its studio.
Upon the doomed release of Fantastic Four, the planned sequel quietly disappeared from Fox's release schedule, and it seemed like the film rights for the characters may finally revert back to Marvel. The studio has been decidedly quiet on their own thoughts on the movie, but in a recent interview with Den of Geek, producer Simon Kinberg acknowledged that the reboot wasn't all they'd hoped it would be.

The writer and producer of X-Men Apocalypse talks to us about writing the sequel, the future of R-rated superhero movies at Fox and more...
For the past decade, Simon Kinberg’s been involved with the X-Men movies, whether as a writer or producer or both. He’s well positioned, then, to not only talk about the challenges of penning a huge ensemble movie like his latest project, X-Men: Apocalypse, but also the state of Marvel movies at Fox as a whole.
What’s it like to not just consider one movie in isolation, but also spin-offs like The Wolverine or the forthcoming Gambit? With Deadpool making an unexpectedly colossal $762m at the box-office - an incredible return on its $58m budget - what impact has that had on Fox’s future plans?
Read on for the answers to these questions, plus Kinberg’s thoughts on the themes...

Exclusive: producer Simon Kinberg says another Fantastic Four movie is still alive at Fox, with the same cast and a “brighter” tone.
Mired by rumours of behind-the-scenes problems and released to a hostile response, 2015’s Fantastic Four was far from the franchise reboot Fox wanted. Indeed, the removal of Fantastic Four 2 from the studio’s schedule (it was once slated for the summer of 2017) might suggest that a sequel’s out of a question.
According to producer and co-writer Simon Kinberg, however, there’s still appetite for a sequel at Fox - even if they have gone back to the drawing board for now. When we brought the subject of Fantastic Four 2 up at the junket for X-Men: Apocalypse, Kinberg made no secret of his feelings about the 2015 film and its dramatic departure from the comics.

We're nearly finished* with 2015 Film Bitch Awards, our own annual year in review yearbook/party and of imaginary Oscar ballot (well, half of it is that). Today the remainder of our Best Scene categories with six final scene categories. This group hands more nominations to films from the top ten list of course but for highlights to point out here on the blog before you click over, we're using films outside the top ten list.
Obviously this page (and post) of awards contains mild spoilers so if you haven't seen the films and wish to stay pure, these are not the awards categories you're looking for. Here is one nominee I felt the need to gab about (maybe you will too?) from each category...

Hip-hop mogul’s All Def Movie awards launched in the wake of #OscarsSoWhite row to honour African-American talent snubbed by the Academy
To paraphrase creator Russell Simmons, it may not have been the black Oscars, but it certainly could have been. Rap biopic Straight Outta Compton, Will Smith and Creed’s Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan were largely ignored by the Us Academy when nominations for Sunday’s ceremony were announced last month, but all came away with prizes from Thursday night’s rival All Def Movie awards.
Straight Outta Compton, the story of pioneering hip-hop outfit Nwa’s rise to fame, took best film ahead of Beasts of No Nation, Chi-Raq, Concussion, Creed and Dope. Coogler won best director for his acclaimed Rocky spinoff, while Jordan took best actor for his lead role as light heavyweight boxer Adonis Creed. As well as Creed 2, Michael B Jordan has a second remake of The Thomas Crown Affair on his slate...
Next up for Michael B Jordan, after the success and acclaim aimed in his direction for his work in Creed? It might just be a second remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.
The original, released in 1968, brought together Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway and a chess board. The surprisingly solid remake followed in 1999, with Die Hard director John McTiernan uniting Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in the lead roles.
Now? Michael B Jordan will be stepping into the shoes previously worn by McQueen and Brosnan, as MGM plans a third take on the story.
Right now, Jordan is the only name believed to be attached, as the search is on for writers and a director to bring The Thomas Crown Affair back to the screen. That suggests that the project is in its infancy,...

With the Oscars imminent, Sylvester Stallone has been musing on Rocky Balboa, and Creed 2.
This story contains a spoiler for Creed.
Sylvester Stallone has pulled out something of a coup with Rocky spin-off movie, Creed. He's picked up a second acting Oscar nomination, for playing the same role nearly 40 years after he debuted it. No other actor can say that, and the early signs are that Stallone may yet pick up a gong for Best Supporting Actor at the forthcoming Academy Awards.
But is this for Rocky, then? Appreciating that Stallone has been down this road before, Variety reports that this time, he may well be done with the character.
"I really have mixed feelings about this, seriously", he said. "I feel like Rocky, at the end of this movie on the steps, with the help of a young man, and he looks out and says, ‘from here,...

Michael B Jordan was top dog at the Annual NAACP Image Awards taking both Outstanding Actor and Entertainer of the Year prizes for his work in Creed, which obviously should have netted him an Oscar nominations (we honored him here). Creed was a big player, too, taking Writing and Directing and Supporting Actress (Phylicia Rashad) prizes only to lose the Outstanding Motion Picture prize to Straight Outta Compton.
In other curious developments Idris Elba, fresh off a SAG win, lost the Supporting Actor prize to O'Shea Jackson Jr for Compton. As a reminder of the strange nominee list, of the central trio in Compton only Jason Mitchell (who played Easy E) was snubbed, despite being the actor who received the strongest reviews within the film.

Two of Hollywood’s most prominent African-Americans used the Martin Luther King Jr public holiday in the Us to declare they will stay away from the 88th annual Academy Awards on February 28 as the #OscarsSoWhite backlash gathered momentum.
In the second consecutive year of all-white Oscar acting nods, the industry will be watching closely to see if Monday’s statements by Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith spark further boycotts from the African-American and Latino communities.
Some members of these communities have expressed publicly their sense of feeling slighted over being left out of an all-white roster of acting nominees.

He’s never been one to hold his tongue and Chris Rock is very critical of the fact that the 2016 Academy Awards nominees are a bunch of white actors.
The “Everybody Hates Chris” stud, who also happens to be hosting the 88th Oscars, took to his Twitter account with a link to a promo video and the caption, “The #Oscars. The White Bet Awards.”
Rock, of course, was referring to the fact that Idris Elba, Michael B Jordan, Ryan Coogler, Samuel L Jackson, Benicio del Toro and Will Smith were all snubbed at last week’s nomination announcement. Furthermore, “Straight Outta Compton” executive producer Will Packer blasted the Oscars panel on Facebook- “Yes, they made us laugh. Yes, they made us cry. Yes, they made us angry. Yes, they made us think. Yes, they are all black. No, not one was nominated for the movie industry’s highest honor.”

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa turns trainer to a young star in a decent boxing picture with room for a sequel
In 2006’s Rocky Balboa, Sly Stallone’s ageing boxer was ridiculously called out of retirement for one last fight, going toe-to-toe with Antonio Tarver’s Mason “The Line” Dixon. Astonishingly, there is – and the result has already earned Stallone his first Golden Globe, for best supporting actor. Director and co-writer Ryan Coogler reteams with Fruitvale Station star Michael B Jordan to take the series on a left turn which will sensibly push Balboa to the side of the ring while newcomer Adonis Johnson takes centre stage. Creed star Michael B Jordan on Fantastic Four, and why he'd still return to play Johnny Storm in a sequel.
Whatever the problems with 2015's Fantastic Four movie, Michael B. Jordan's performance as Johnny Storm wasn't one of them.
For starters, Mr Jordan - now riding high off the back of Creed - has a rather philosophical view about his role in a movie that was, to put it mildly, not enthusiastically received.
"I think it was a big education for me to realise that things aren’t in your control, and you can do everything you’re supposed to do," he told IGN. "You can give 110% every day, and the movie still not work out. But that may or may not be on you and you’ve got to be okay with that".
Fantastic Four 2 is pretty much a dead issue at this point, having been removed from Fox's release calendar.

Ryan Coogler has turned in a deft, likable cross-generational boxing flick with humour, as Rocky coaches the son of old adversary Apollo Creed
After some sagging Rocky sequels and the legacy-trashing horror that was Grudge Match, which saw Stallone as the ageing quasi-Rocky climbing into the ring with De Niro as an elderly quasi-lamotta, it’s a relief to watch this likable boxing picture, which finds a way to evolve the Rocky franchise with humour and humility.
Ryan Coogler, who created Fruitvale Station, co-writes and directs here with an easy swing, working with Michael B Jordan – his star from that film. Jordan is Adonis, the son of Apollo Creed, longtime rival of the legendary Philly heavyweight Rocky Balboa. Adonis is a troubled kid, drawn to the ring, and the hand of destiny guides him to ask Rocky himself to train him, the ageing benevolent titan played, of course, by Stallone.
