The Beautiful Game: Cast, Release Date, Photos and Plot of Sports Drama About the Homeless World Cup
Image
Get ready for kickoff. Bill Nighy is starring in a new sports drama based on the Homeless World Cup, a real-life football (that’s soccer to Americans) tournament that spotlights unhoused athletes from around the world. Produced by Hwc ambassador (and Oscar nominee) Colin Farrell and Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Ben Knight with Anita Overland, The Beautiful Game tells the story of the English team and their coach (played by Nighy) as they prepare for the global tournament.

In a new clip from the film, Mal explains the Homeless World Cup to Vinny, and we catch a glimpse of the many talented players who will be competing in Rome. “Every player has a story to tell,” Mal says. “Heartbreaking, unexpected, thrilling stories. And they tell those stories in one great universal language. And that’s football.”

The Homeless World Cup has been around since 2001, representing nearly 70 countries.

Is the Movie “The Beautiful Game” Based on a True Story?
Image
Once in a blue moon, some really crafted filmmaker manages to land a good sports drama that appeases both fans and critics alike. In 2024, this sports film came in the name of The Beautiful Game – a critically acclaimed Thea Sharrock project that proved to be a worthy addition to the streaming giant Netflix, its distributing company.

The Beautiful Game. (2024) | Credits: Netflix.

Released earlier this year in March, this piece turned out to be more or less of a massive success for Netflix – and for everyone involved in the making of it – as the story touched the hearts of many with its emotionally complex plotline. But while many viewers were greatly taken by the immersive aspects of this fictional tale, they don’t seem to know its roots.

That raises a question that perhaps many soccer fans must have had while watching this masterpiece: Is The Beautiful Game based on a true story?...

‘Oppenheimer’ Wins Best Film at BAFTA Awards (Complete Winners List)
Image
The stars and artists behind the biggest films of 2023 descended on London this weekend for the BAFTA Film Awards. British film’s biggest night is often seen as the best predictor of Oscar momentum before the Academy Awards and the results often mirror each other.

If that’s the case this year, it will be all “Oppenheimer” all the time. Universal’s Christopher Nolan epic took home many of the night’s biggest categories, winning the top prize of Best Film along with Best Director for Nolan, Leading Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. The film also picked up major craft wins for Cinematography, Editing, and Original Score.

While the dominant showing makes an “Oppenheimer” Oscar sweep seem even more likely, Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” won for Costume Design, Makeup & Hair, Production Design, and Visual Effects, and star Emma Stone won Leading Actress for her...

Tony McNamara will repeat BAFTA wins for ‘The Favourite’ with ‘Poor Things’
Image
“Poor Things” has performed well throughout this awards season, winning Best Comedy/Musical Film at the Golden Globes and snagging 11 Oscar nominations in total. That is the same number of awards the Searchlight Pictures movie was nominated for at the BAFTAs, where we predict it to perform well.

One person who is set to have a good night at the British film awards is Tony McNamara, who adapted Alasdair Gray‘s 1992 novel of the same name. McNamara previously worked with Emma Stone on “Cruella” and “The Favourite,” the latter of which was another Yorgos Lanthimos film. McNamara co-wrote that period piece with Deborah Davis. The duo was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars in 2019 but lost to “Green Book”.

However, they won the BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay, over “Cold War” (Janusz Głowacki and Paweł Pawlikowski), “Green Book,” “Roma” (Alfonso Cuarón), and “Vice” (Adam McKay). The film won six other BAFTAs in total,...

Glen Powell Finds Next Star Vehicle In Thriller ‘Huntington’ Inspired By Brit Classic ‘Kind Hearts And Coronets’; Studiocanal & Participant Aboard With A24 Closing In On Domestic
Image
Exclusive: With Anyone But You having just crossed $100M at the global box office and Top Gun 3 chatter lighting up the internet, Hollywood man of the moment Glen Powell has found his next project in the shape of thriller Huntington from Emily The Criminal writer-director John Patton Ford.

As we revealed last year, Euro studio Studiocanal and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri producer Blueprint are behind the project, which has now attracted Green Book and Spotlight outfit Participant as co-financier with Studiocanal.

We understand A24 is close to finalizing a domestic deal, though none of the parties could confirm at time of going to press.

The partners are aiming for an early summer shoot on the movie, which is described to us as “raucous revenge thriller” about Becket Redfellow (Powell), the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves…Or what he thinks he deserves.

BAFTA Awards 2024 Nominees: ‘Oppenheimer’ Earns 13
Image

Oppenheimer continues with its awards season domination, picking up 13 2024 Ee BAFTA Film Awards nominations. BAFTA also found a lot to admire in Poor Things, nominating it 11 times in categories including Best Film and Leading Actress (Emma Stone).

Killers of the Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest received nine nominations, followed by Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, and Maestro with seven. All of Us Strangers was nominated in six categories, and Barbie and Saltburn received five nominations.

“The 38 films nominated by BAFTA voters today span an extraordinary range of genres and stories. The field this year is incredibly strong. More films were entered, making the selection process particularly tough for our voting members. The films and talented people nominated represent some of the most talked about films of the year,...

‘Oppenheimer’ & ‘Poor Things’ Lead 2024 BAFTA Nominations — The Complete List
Image
Nominations for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards have been unveiled. Scroll down for the full list.

Leading the way this year is Christopher Nolan’s atomic biopic Oppenheimer, which snagged 13 noms, including best film, director, and adapted screenplay. Oppenheimer was one nomination away from equaling All Quiet on the Western Front’s record 2023 haul of 14 noms. Trailing Nolan is Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, who clocked 11 nominations with his latest black comedy, Poor Things. Lanthimos’ haul also includes best film alongside outstanding british film and adapted screenplay for Tony McNamara.

Chasing the leading two is Martin Scorsese’s Osage epic Killers Of The Flower, which clocked nine nominations. The 3-hour plus pic pops up in best film, supporting actor for Robert DeNiro, and cinematography for Rodrigo Prieto. However, the film didn’t land noms in either best director or best actress (Lily Gladstone), where it had been longlisted and earmarked as a frontrunner.
