'The greatest love of my life? Oh please. This is not a therapy session'
Geoffrey Rush, 62, was born in Australia. After completing an English degree at the University of Queensland, he went to Paris to study acting at the Jacques Lecoq school, before returning to Australia to work in theatre. His role in the 1996 film Shine won him worldwide recognition, and he became the first Australian-born actor to win an Oscar; he has since had Academy Award nominations for his performances in Shakespeare In Love, Quills and The King's Speech, for which he won a Bafta. His latest film is The Book Thief. He is married with two children and lives in Melbourne.
When were you happiest?
During my Queensland childhood, on the days when I avoided the chlorine-infused shower gauntlet and being corralled into the deep end of the school pool.
What is your greatest fear?
Being alone...

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. Australian actor-writer-director Bille Brown, who performed on Broadway and the West End and in the films Killer Elite, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader and Fierce Creatures, died Sunday in a Brisbane hospital. He was 61 and had been battling bowel cancer. William “Bille” Brown began his career in the early 1970s at the Queensland Theater Company with Geoffrey Rush, among others. In 1976 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and appeared in productions at London’s Aldwych and Haymarket Theaters and with the Chichester Festival Theater and English National Opera. He had two further engagements with the RSC, from 1986–88 and 1994–96. He was an artist-in-residence at the State University of New York in 1982 and made his Broadway debut in 1986 in Michael Frayn’s Wild Honey with Ian McKellen. He returned to Australia to live permanently in 1996. His Australian film credits include The Dish,...

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a thirty minute presentation from the latest film in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of The Dawn Treader. In a post Lord of the Rings world, where just about any fantasy novel can be fully brought to life onscreen, the first installment in C.S. Lewis' beloved series The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was a smash hit when it arrived in theaters five years ago. The film told the story of the Pevensie siblings Peter (William Mosely), Susan (Anna Popplewell), Edmund (Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) who travel to the world of Narnia through a magical portal within a wardrobe and join the noble Lion Aslan (voice of Liam Neeson) against the forces of the evil White Witch (Tilda Swinton). Walt Disney Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox both distributed the picture through production company Walden Media and the...

Check out the new, feature trailer for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, the third installment in the “Narnia” series. I bet the filmmakers are wishing they’re getting even a little bit of all the hoopla that the final two “Harry Potter” movies are getting right about now… Lucy and Edmund Pevensie return to Narnia with their cousin Eustace where they meet up with Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes), now a King, for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. Along the way they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world. Starring Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley, Will Poulter, Bill Nighy, Gary Sweet, Arthur Angel, Tony Nixon, Shane Rangi, Colin Moody, Terry Norris, David Vallon, Bruce Spence, Bille Brown, Liam Neeson and directed by Michael Apted. The latest “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” trailer hails from overseas. For the third film in a successful fantasy franchise, it’s interesting how little buzz, or fanboy interest the film has gotten with just another couple months to go before its release. Chicago – Lionsgate and After Dark Films’ recently released their third collection of “8 Films to Die For” and this year proved to be the most uninspiring octet to date. With fewer risks taken than the last two years and less extreme failures or successes, “After Dark Horrorfest III” is terrifyingly dull.
Overall DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 What makes this year’s collection rather forgettable is the lack of extremes on either side of the rating spectrum. The first two years produced some truly excellent genre gems including “Borderland,” “The Hamiltons,” and “The Abandoned.” At the same time, movies like “Dead Lake,” “Undead,” and “Nightmare Man” should be buried in a deep hole and never see the light of day again.
I have to admit that I liked the variety in quality of the last two years more than this year, when nearly every film registered as forgettable more than good or bad. There was one notable standout,...
