Actor Douglas Tait has played a handful of horror movie monsters over the years, from Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason to the werewolf in Annabelle Comes Home, and up next he’s stepping behind the camera to make his directorial debut. Tait takes a seat in the director’s chair for the upcoming Angel Baby, being billed as a “psychological thriller” feature film.

Quiver Distribution has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Angel Baby, marking the directorial debut of actor / filmmaker Douglas Tait. It's set to open in December this fall - available on VOD right away. Val, a loving wife, and her husband Justin move to a remote cabin to heal from the sudden death of their unborn twins and get a fresh start. Soon she senses an evil presence. Tipping their Stetsons to a passel of 1960s Spaghetti Westerns — everything from “A Fistful of Dollars” to “They Call Me Trinity” — and the sort of 1970s Blaxploitation oaters that once provided steady employment for Fred Williamson, director-star Michael Jai White and co-star (and co-writer) Byron Keith Minns have cobbled together “Outlaw Johnny Black,” a fitfully funny but uncomfortably overlong entertainment best appreciated by movie buffs who share the pair’s affection for the genre tropes and stereotypes they seriocomically recycle.
Not nearly as free-wheeling and fleet-footed as “Black Dynamite,” the 2009 satirical comedy that cast White as a Shaft-like action hero, the new film nonetheless provides more than a few good laughs, even when it seems to be taking horse opera clichés a tad too respectfully, and showcases a fine cast of actors dedicated to both the silliness and the seriousness of the enterprise.

Douglas Tait has a long list of acting and stunt credits to his name, and among those many credits are a couple of horror icons. Tait was the man behind the mask when Jason Voorhees rises from the water clutching Freddy’s severed head at the end of Freddy vs. Jason, and eighteen years later he was also did some stunt work as Michael Myers in Halloween Kills. Now Tait is making his feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller Angel Baby, and he has assembled a strong cast for the film. That includes Rebecca de Mornay (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle), Daniel Roebuck (The Munsters), Dan Thiel (Ratched), Whitney Anderson (The Lady Killers), Chris Browning (The Lincoln Lawyer), Tait himself, and his wife Isabel Cueva (Aztec Warrior). Invitation to Murder is a mystery film directed by Stephen Shimek.
Does a story about England, an invitation, different characters and a murder to be solved sound familiar? They’re called whodonit, and the greatest exponent of the genre was the ever-great Agatha Christie.
Here’s a charming film that captures the essence, step by step, without the minimum intent of originality.
Delightful in its evocation of English traditionalism.
And in its consequent repetition, too.
Movie Review
Curiously enough, this is actually a French production in which everything takes us to England, to those stories that, although already a bit worn out by repetition, continue to captivate. A good mystery for a film that, without a doubt, we have already seen.
There is nothing original in a film that is a tribute to the English writer and, in the end, little more than a rather televised episode that may entertain...

"You gotta get down into the muck if you wanna find the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for another whodunit murder mystery movie called Invitation to a Murder, which is skipping theaters entirely and is debuting on VOD directly in April this spring. Once you get a look at this, you'll understand exactly why. This is some low rent cheap junk, and the cast is especially mediocre, too. Set in the South of England in 1934. For no apparent reason and also like five other unrelated people, Miranda, a 28-year-old florist, is invited for the weekend in the mansion of billionaire Lewis Findley. What's become of their absent host? And who just murdered one of the guests in cold blood? Of course, there's only one way to find out – pay the money to rent and watch this movie. It stars Mischa Barton, Chris Browning, Seamus Dever, Giles Matthey, Grace Lynn Kung,...

The trailer just dropped for Invitation to a Murder and it looks sprightly and, dare I say it, fun. Set in the 1930s, the murder mystery stars Mischa Barton, who, we must remember, was born in London long before she became a teen star on U.S. television (The O.C.). She plays Miranda Green, who is summoned to a remote mansion belonging to a mysterious billionaire, which begs the question, did they have those in the 1930s? Not many, I wager. Surrounded by five strangers, murder most foul occurs, and Miranda must put on her amateur detective hat to solve the case and avoid being killed herself. Chris Browning, Seamus Dever and Bianca Santos also star. Invitation to a Murder will be available April 25 on...

After giving us a unique twist on the vampire film in Climate of the Hunter, Mickey Reece and co-writer John Selvidge are back with Agnes, their take on demonic possession and evil doings in a convent. And while I knew this wasn’t going to be another nunsploitation film, I wasn’t expecting just what it delivers.
Sister Agnes is a young nun in an out-of-the-way convent of Saint Theresa. Her behaviour has been most troubling lately, foaming at the mouth, swearing at, and even attacking her fellow nuns. When Mother Superior (Mary Buss; Camp Cold Brook) asks for help she’s sent Father Donaghue an exorcist whom the diocese is looking for an excuse to excommunicate and his protege Ben.

Those uncertain just how seriously Paul Verhoeven intended us to take the alternately earnest and lurid nunsploitation of “Benedetta” will be even more flummoxed by Mickey Reece’s “Agnes.” , in addition to being too underdeveloped and tonally wobbly to satisfy in themselves.
Unlike the squirrelly genre-bender that was the director’s last feature, “Climate of the Hunter,” conceptually near-random “Agnes” does not find its own singular terms to work within. Viewers lured in by the horror-movie marketing will be particularly irked by this bait-and-switch oddity, which Magnet releases to limited U.S. theaters and VOD on Dec. 10.
When a young nun suddenly begins ranting obscenities in a “demonic” voice at a Carmelite convent, the bishop informs Father Donaghue (Ben Hall) that he must attend to the situation. He’s been trained for such possession cases but is most reluctant to go, as he doesn’t “really believe in this medieval woo-woo” anymore,...

"You don't have the luxury to be frightened!" Magnet Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for a nun horror film titled Agnes, from filmmaker Mickey Reece. This initially premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and also recently stopped by Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival this fall. Rumors of demonic possession at a religious convent prompts a church investigation into the strange goings-on among its nuns. A disaffected priest and his neophyte are confronted with temptation, bloodshed and a crisis of faith. That description sounds a lot like Paul Verhoeven's Benedetta (which I also highly recommend) - but this is something else entirely! Agnes stars Hayley McFarland as the titular nun "Agnes", with Molly C. Quinn, Sean Gunn, Chris Sullivan, Rachel True, Chris Browning, and Jake Horowitz. This looks rather cliche and obvious, especially following the exquisite Saint Maud. But it still might be worth a watch.

So I had a plethora of films that many now consider ‘classics’ to watch… I say this not to brag but to give some context to why I adore The Unhealer so much… It feels like it stepped directly out of that era of filmmaking. In the past I’ve often talked about how I spent my teenage years basically living in the local video shop, renting title after title – mainly from the pound a week section. Now that particular section of my local video store consisted mainly of older titles that the majority of people weren’t renting any more, most of which were from the late 80s/early 90s. So I had a plethora of films that many now consider ‘classics’ to watch… I say this not to brag but to give some context to why I adore The Unhealer so much… It feels like it stepped directly out of that era of filmmaking. In the best way possible.

Exclusive: Producer Shaked Berenson has teamed with former Dread Central Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Barkan to launch the new genre distribution label The Horror Collective. The banner will be under Berenson’s production/distribution outfit Entertainment Squad and Barkan will head the venture which plans to release 10-12 films per year.
Like the name of the distribution label suggests, The Horror Collective is building itself to become a destination that fosters independent horror filmmakers and connect their films to fans. It will also finance and produce original content. The outfit’s inaugural film will be Elza Kephart’s Slaxx, which was the first project financed Entertainment Squad and will be released by The Horror Collective and enter the festival circuit in Q1 2020. Berenson financed and executive produced the Slaxx with long collaborator, Anne-Marie Gélinas of Ema Films.

"You almost blew me up!" Lionsgate has debuted the second official Us trailer for Angel Has Fallen, the action sequel follow up to Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. We've seen two other full-length trailers for this already - one Us trailer, plus another international one - but why not a third one to remind you this is hitting theaters next month. Gerard Butler returns as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, who is framed once the President comes under attack, and must figure out what's really going on. Who is really behind all of this? The full cast includes Morgan Freeman as the President, with Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, Nick Nolte, Chris Browning, Danny Huston, and Michael Landes. This is the best trailer yet, but it still doesn't look good. Showing all the same scenes. Here's the second Us trailer (+ poster) for Ric Roman Waugh...

"There's somebody else behind this! It wasn't me..." Lionsgate UK has unveiled another new international trailer for Angel Has Fallen, the action sequel follow up to Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. The first Us trailer dropped a few weeks back, this new one actually focuses more on the plot, surprisingly enough. Gerard Butler returns as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, who is framed once the President comes under attack, and must figure out what's really going on. Who is really behind all of this? The full cast includes Morgan Freeman as the President, along with Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, Nick Nolte, Chris Browning, Danny Huston, and Michael Landes. "The President's top guardian angel has fallen." Lionsgate has debuted the first official trailer for Angel Has Fallen, the latest action sequel following up Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen before it. Gerard Butler returns as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, who is framed once the President comes under attack, and must figure out what's really going on. Isn't this the exact same plot as the other two? The cast includes Morgan Freeman as the President, with Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, Nick Nolte, Chris Browning, Danny Huston, and Michael Landes. This one looks like it takes place entirely in the woods, not much in a city at all - until those CGI shots at the end. In today’s film news roundup, a spy thriller is set for a September start, “Permanent Green Light’ gets distribution, and “The Unhealer” wraps shooting.
Production Start
Producers are planning a September start for writer/director Daniel Lusko’s spy thriller “Quandary” about a CIA operative with Ptsd, Variety has learned exclusively.
Lusko joins forces with Doug McKay (“What to Expect When You’re Expecting”), Dennis Rice (“Charming”), Mark Kamine (“Bad Moms”), Tom Sanders, and Tommy Goodwin to produce the film, which will be shot in Hawaii and Los Angeles.
Lusko said the story is inspired by true events and addresses the psychological effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on American intelligence operatives. He also asserted the story has been vetted and endorsed by FBI officials and CIA operatives.
The story centers on a CIA operative who struggles to maintain his sanity after an explosion where he sees his wife and son killed.

As he's proven time and time again, Robert Patrick is a fearsome beast when riled. So when he says "Get back in the truck" in a quiet voice, filled with authority and the threat that he will make you get back in the truck -- or something far worse -- my instinct would be to turn tail and return to my vehicle. But that's not what happens in our exclusive clip from Last Rampage, which makes me even more intrigued by the film, especially since it's based on a true story. Synopsis: "In the summer of 1978 convicted murderer Gary Tison (Robert Patrick) and his cellmate Randy Greenawalt (Chris Browning) staged a daring escape from an Arizona State Prison, with the help of Tison's three...

I've got a trailer for a great looking thriller for you to watch today for a film called Last Rampage. The movie has a modern day western vibe as Robert Patrick escapes from prison and goes on a murderous rampage as he is being hunted down by Bruce Davison. The movie also stars Heather Graham and is based on a true story. Here's the synopsis:
In the summer of 1978, convicted murderer Gary Tison (Patrick) and his cellmate Randy Greenawalt (Chris Browning) staged a daring escape from an Arizona State Prison, with the help of Tison’s three teenage sons. Their murderous rampage through the southwestern desert shocked the nation with its brutality. While Sheriff Cooper (Davison) hunted the men down, Tison's wife (Graham) vehemently defended her family in the press.
The movie is an adaptation of the book Last Rampage: The Escape of Gary Tison written by James W. Clarke.

"You can have anything you want in this world, as long as you know how to steal it." Epic Releasing has debuted a trailer for an action thriller titled Last Rampage, about the true story of a notorious prison break in Arizona in 1978. The film stars Robert Patrick as Gary Tison, a convicted murderer who escaped from prison with his cellmate, played by Chris Browning. While the sheriff, played by Bruce Davison, was hunting him down the two went on a murderous rampage. The film features a "chilling tour-de-force turn by Robert Patrick" in a story "about the dark side of family loyalty." The full cast includes Heather Graham, Molly C. Quinn, Jason James Richter, William Shockley, and the late John Heard. This looks very gritty and violent, perhaps it's an uncomfortable film to watch, but maybe there's something to it.
