Comedian and children’s author David Walliams has drawn widespread condemnation, including from the BBC, for making two Nazi salutes during a recording of panel show Would I Lie To You? earlier this week.
The Times first reported that Walliams, also a former judge on Britain’s Got Talent, made the gestures during a segment in which another panellist joked about injuring their wrist while waving.
The audience at Pinewood Studios, where the show’s Christmas special was being filmed on Tuesday, was reportedly shocked when Walliams joined in to mimic the waves before holding his arm in a Nazi salute.
A journalist called Sebastian Topan contacted the BBC to describe the incident. “Some other panellist was talking when David Walliams started doing the Nazi salute,” Topan told BBC News. “I was shocked at what I had seen… [There were] patches of quietened gasps and awkward half-laughs and broken clapping.”

David Walliams has been condemned by the BBC after he allegedly performed a Nazi salute during the recording of hit comedy panel show Would I Lie To You?.
The BBC said the gesture was “completely unacceptable” and apologized to audience members if they were offended by the incident during the filming of a Christmas special. Walliams’ rep has been contacted for comment.
The Times of London, which first reported the story, said Walliams raised his arm to perform the salute as Call The Midwife actress Helen George attempted to convince panelists that she sustained a wrist sprain “from waving too much” during a Strictly Come Dancing tour.
Sebastian Topan, a Times Radio producer who was in the audience, said Little Britain star Walliams twice made the gesture during the recording at Pinewood. “Some other panellist was talking when David Walliams started doing the Nazi salute,” Topan told BBC News. “I...

While many were occupied by the usual suspects, 2024 was a treat for TV lovers who were paying attention. Yeah, we could have kept rewatching that one show for the ‘tenth-teenth’ time, but suffice it to say, it meant missing out on the next one. Comedy? There was plenty of that this year. Thrillers also found their place. Even a vampire mockumentary died down without proper credit.
These 30 underrated shows from 2024 deserve way more love, and frankly, it’s low-key saddening they didn’t get it. Matt Bomer is glad he turned down a role in the 'Barbie' movie because it gave him more time to focus on 'Maestro'.The 47-year-old actor was in talks to play Ken in Greta Gerwig's big screen film based on the beloved children's toy, but he walked away from the part and it went to Ryan Gosling instead - and Matt has now revealed he made the right choice because it allowed him to focus his energy on performing in Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein biopic 'Maestro'.He told Business Insider: "Even though my part in 'Maestro' was smaller, Bradley was so collaborative with me from the get-go."And it was such an immersive experience that to have just flown in from London to film my scenes [in 'Barbie'] really quick and fly back to London - I feel like 'Maestro' wouldn't...

The United Kingdom has perfected the panel show in a way that other countries can't quite hack. A combination of quiz show and comedy series, panel shows have a basic game structure but are much looser and lower stakes than actual game shows; the game itself is merely an excuse for different comedians, actors, musicians, and celebrities in general to crack each other up. 8 Out of 10 Cats, Qi, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Taskmaster, Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, and many others have provided years (and often decades) of laughs, and one of the very best of the bunch is Would I Lie to You?
Would I Lie to You? has had the very funny Lee Mack (Not Going Out) and David Mitchell (Peep Show) as team captains since it began in 2007, and has been hosted by the wonderful Rob Brydon since 2009. The truly hilarious show recently finished airing its 18th series,...

There are two things that can make any movie better: Steve Coogan and penguins.
Fortunately, and not surprisingly considering its title, The Penguin Lessons features both. Well, at least one penguin, who goes by the name Juan Salvador. But he’s more than enough. He’s Coogan’s best onscreen partner since Rob Brydon in the Trip movies.
Loosely based on a memoir by Tom Michell, the film takes place in 1976 in Buenos Aires, where teacher Tom (Coogan) arrives to teach English to teenage students at a tony private school. His timing wasn’t exactly fortuitous, as not long after he gets there the country is rocked by a military coup, with people disappearing subsequently.
Not that any of the tumult affects Tom, who soon embarks on a weekend getaway to Uruguay with his Swedish colleague (Bjorn Gustafsson, priceless), where he enjoys a flirtation with a local woman. Walking together on the beach,...

Did Steve Coogan just reveal that a fifth season of “The Trip” is on the way?
According to a letter sent by the comedian to Birmingham Magistrates Court and obtained by the Evening Standard, the answer is yes.
In an effort to avoid a driving ban for speeding on the M6 at nearly 100 mph last year, Coogan reportedly penned a plea to the court in which he said he needs to be able to drive for a new installment of “The Trip,” the beloved sitcom in which Coogan and Rob Brydon play fictionalized versions of themselves.
“I have a series of important film commitments scheduled for 2025, many of which involve driving as a central component of the work,” he wrote, according to the Standard. “I am due to appear in a well-established TV series called ‘The Trip’ (with Rob Brydon) which as the title suggests requires me to drive. Steve Coogan has revealed that he is filming a new season of comedy The Trip in a bid to avoid being banned from driving.
The Philomena actor wrote to a British court to argue against the driving disqualification because it would jeopardize The Trip‘s plans to shoot this summer and put crew members out of work.
Coogan’s letter, obtained by The Standard newspaper, followed him being caught driving at 97mph on a UK freeway on July 29 last year.
The Standard said Birmingham magistrates court listened to Coogan’s plea and handed him five penalty points, leaving him one short of a ban. He was ordered to pay a £3,590 fine and other costs.
