Fresh from winning an Emmy for hosting Peacock’s The Traitors, Alan Cumming has lined up a new gig.

The multi-hyphenate talent, a veteran and Tony Award-winning star of the stage, has been named artistic director of Pitlochry Festival Theatre, known as “Scotland’s theater in the hills.” Cumming replaces Elizabeth Newman who is departing in November after serving Pitlochry since September 2018. Her last production, The Sound of Music, runs Nov. 15 – Dec. 22. It was announced in July that Newman would be exiting as artistic director in favor of a leadership role, a move that launched a three month recruitment period and selection process.

Cumming assumes the artistic director post beginning in January 2025, and has sights set on programming the 2026 season. Up first, Pitlochry will stage previously announced productions The Great Gatsby, Grease, The 39 Steps and four new plays in the venue’s studio.

RespectAbility, a disability-led nonprofit known for creating systemic change in how society views and values people with disabilities, has announced a new cohort of five participants for the organization’s Physical Production Intensive.

Since 2019, RespectAbility has been running a variety of Entertainment Labs and additional pipeline programming for disabled entertainment professionals. New this year, RespectAbility is offering six new in-person intensive sessions geared toward Fellows who are looking for more focused programming and career opportunities in specific creative areas.

RespectAbility is running an intensive session for disabled crew members working in below-the-line positions and those wanting to gain a larger understanding of how their role intersects with physical production. The intensive is in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Panavision.

The cohort includes five individuals – four from Los Angeles and one from Denver. Participants include people with a variety of disabilities ranging in age from the 20s through the 60s.

Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson will be making a comeback to perform together after five years.

Though recent years haven’t seen the sisters onstage together, both have continued to perpetuate the 70s rock band songs. Nancy toured in 2022 under a different name, Nancy Wilson’s Heart, in 2022, mainly singing Heart songs, while Ann had her own band called Tripsitter.

The Royal Flush Tour will launch on April 20 in Greenville, South Carolina, and will make stops in major cities like Atlanta, Boston, and Montreal before performing their final show in Morrison, Colorado, on September 22.

The literal translation of the phrase is “old long since,” but the meaning is “days gone by.”

The song started off as a poem written down by Robert Burns in 1788, though it is believed that it was written before that date by someone else.

The song is interpreted to raise the question if it’s right to forget old times and never think of them again. It’s the perfect song for New Year’s Eve as we move into a new year and try to decide if we will look back at moments from the past year or forget them and move forward.

A couple months ago, it was announced that eight of the classic Universal Monsters movies – Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera, and Creature from the Black Lagoon – would be receiving a limited edition 4K box set release. With the notable exception of the beloved Carrie Fisher, many of the iconic lead actors in the "Star Wars" saga are still with us. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman are all going strong, and so are the stars of the space opera's most recent episodes. Some of the actors from the original film who were already veterans at the time, like Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, died some years ago, but both enjoyed long lives beyond the average age.

Sadly, this cannot be said of numerous other actors involved in the big screen franchise and its recent TV spin-offs. Performers have died in their 70s, 60s, and 50s, many of them leaving us wishing we could have seen more years of great performances from them. Whether they had spotlight roles or were hidden behind alien masks, here are the "Star Wars" actors we lost too soon.

This year’s lab has been adapted to be in support of the WGA strike, including bringing in more writers and independent industry speakers to talk about the current climate.

When Artimus Pyle, the drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd for the bulk of the Seventies, heard the news yesterday about the death of his former bandmate, guitarist Gary Rossington, he immediately pulled up the last text messages between the two.

“I’ve already gone back, looked at them, and read the entire thread between Gary and I. And I will cherish these texts for the rest of my life,” Pyle, who replaced original drummer Bob Burns in 1975, tells Rolling Stone over the phone from his home in rural North Carolina.

The news of Rossington’s death was confirmed by the band in a statement posted to Facebook on Sunday evening.

“It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today,” the statement shared. “Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does.”

“Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time,” the statement concluded.

No details regarding the cause of Rossington’s death have yet been released.

I thought I was done buying The Texas Chain Saw Massacre after upgrading to the 40th anniversary edition Blu-ray in 2014. Between the crisp presentation and the copious extras, I was certain it was the definitive version of Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 masterpiece. Yet here I am, nearly a decade later, ready to sing the praises of Dark Sky Films‘ 4K Ultra HD edition.

Long before “gritty” was an industry buzzword, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre epitomized the term. As such, one might be wary that a 4K restoration could hinder the viewing experience, but that is not at all the case. Utilizing the 4K scan from the aforementioned Blu-ray, which was approved by Hooper, and now with a wider color gamut courtesy of Hdr, the picture is presented in staggering clarity while maintaining the 16mm film grain. The oppressive heat is virtually palpable.

Belting out the song as the clock strikes midnight has become an annual tradition, but after confidently singing the first line, you most likely end up singing “la laaaa la la la” over the actual words.

For a song so popular, it’s quite funny how very few people can actually recite the entirety of.

The song derives from a 1788 Scots poem by Robert Burns – but the poet actually never intended the piece to act as a farewell to the old year.

After writing it, he sent the poem to the Scots Musical Museum accompanied with a note that read: “The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man.

Every year, the streets ring with the same lilting song. Sweet, nostalgic, hopeful; “Auld Lang Syne” has become an absolute tradition in New Year’s Eve celebrations.

And so, we sing. Or, at least, we sing the first couple of lines and politely mumble the rest into our champagne glasses. Despite its vast popularity, it’s a song that very few people can actually recite the entirety of.

When I think of classic literature that really gets under my skin and leaves some scars, H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds is at the top of the list. The many adaptations of Wells' timeless extraterrestrial tale are just one indication of the novel's enduring legacy, and that legacy continues to grow now that the first The War of the Worlds film is coming to the Criterion Collection.

Announced on Criterion's Twitter account, The War of the Worlds (1953) will join the Criterion Collection this July as a new Blu-ray featuring a 4K digital restoration and new cover art by artist Patrick Leger.

Madman Entertainment in Australia is going to be releasing The War of the Worlds (1953) on Blu-ray on 5/27. The 4K restoration was available on itunes for a time, but this marks the film's first physical release in 4k.

The limited edition (just 1500 units) is mastered from the new 4K restoration of the original camera negative and will include exclusive audio commentary by film critics Barry Forshaw & Kim Newman, audio commentary by actor Gene Barry and actress Ann Robinson, audio commentary by Joe Dante, Bob Burns, and Bill Warren.

Decades after playing Frankenstein's monster in several Universal horror films, Boris Karloff played the mad scientist himself, Baron Victor von Frankenstein, in Frankenstein 1970, and Warner Archive announced that they will release the 1958 horror film on Blu-ray with a new HD master.

Although an exact release date is not yet known, Blu-ray.com lists Frankenstein 1970 for an April release, and we have the official announcement and cover art from Warner Archive's Facebook page:

Last fall, Universal Studios Home Entertainment gave horror fans an early Halloween treat with their Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray box sets for Frankenstein's monster and The Wolf Man. This spring, two more Universal Monsters will get their due, as Dracula and The Mummy are also getting the Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray treatment.

The respective Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray box sets for Dracula and The Mummy are scheduled for a May 16th release. Although the full list of films for each collection have not been announced, it's likely that they will contain the same films featured on the DVD versions:
