Exclusive: Anne Boleyn, the British drama series starring Jodie Turner-Smith in the titular role, is heading to AMC+.
The streaming service has picked up the U.S. rights to the series, which was originally commissioned by ViacomCBS-owned UK broadcaster Channel 5 and co-financed by Sony Pictures Television.
The convention-defying three-part drama will launch in the U.S. on December 9 and will be rolled out weekly.
It examines the downfall of Boleyn through the prism of a psychological thriller rather than a stuffy period drama retreading the demise of King Henry VIII’s second wife.
Penned by newcomer Eve Hedderwick Turner, the drama shines a feminist light on the final months of Boleyn’s life, re-imagining her struggle with Tudor England’s patriarchal society, her desire to secure a future for her daughter, Elizabeth, and the brutal reality of her failure to provide Henry with a male heir.

The Bloodlands trailer first gives us police boats crossing a desolate loch, and the timbrous tones of James Nesbitt recapping a decades-old case about an assassin codenamed Goliath. Then comes the legend: “From the Executive Producer of Bodyguard and Line of Duty.” The new four-part BBC crime drama is the first from Hat Trick Mercurio, the new production company of Bodyguard and Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, the biggest name in UK TV thrillers and a connection well worth advertising.
A connection, in fact, you’d be mad not to advertise. Zig-zagging political thriller Bodyguard was a gargantuan hit, and here in the UK, Line of Duty is more popular than sunshine. Anyone launching a new crime drama and not trying to get people to call it ‘the next Line of Duty’ wouldn’t be doing their job.
There are other sound reasons to draw the link: like Line of Duty,...

Vogue, which was first with the stills of Turner-Smith in character, spoke to her about taking on the iconic role. She said: “There’s so much about her story that feels modern.

Penned by newcomer Eve Hedderwick Turner, Anne Boleyn shines a feminist light on the final months of Boleyn’s life, re-imagining her struggle with Tudor England’s patriarchal society, her desire to secure a future for her daughter, Elizabeth, and the brutal reality of her failure to provide Henry with a male heir.

There’s a new queen in town.
Variety can reveal the first look of “Queen & Slim” actor Jodie Turner-Smith as Tudor queen Anne Boleyn — the most notorious of Henry VIII’s wives, best known for her untimely demise by execution — in three-part psychological thriller “Anne Boleyn” for ViacomCBS-backed U.K. broadcaster Channel 5. The show wrapped production on location in Yorkshire in December, and is set to air later this year.
Produced by Fable Pictures and Sony Pictures Television, “Anne Boleyn” garnered headlines last year for Turner-Smith’s casting, which marks one of a handful of times a Black actor has portrayed a major royal figure on a British terrestrial broadcaster. More recently, Sophie Okonedo played Queen of England Margaret, who was married to Henry VI, in the BBC’s “The Hollow Crown.” She starred opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.

If you’re missing a little awe in your life right now, you’ll enjoy this Ee Film Stories short film featuring BAFTA Scotland Award nominee Lynsey Miller (Deadwater Fell).
The film, released today following the BAFTA Scotland awards last night, also features Harry Potter’s Katie Leung, Glen Wallace and the indomitable cinematic form of James Cosmo.
The beautifully shot short film gives us a glimpse of the awe-inspiring beauty of the landscape of the country, and focuses on how technology brings us together in these strange times. Part of that technology is the rollout of 5G, tech which, if the constant cheerleading from my co-founder Dave is anything to go by, will once again change the way we use mobile connectivity.

A new drama about Tudor queen Anne Boleyn, starring Jodie Turner-Smith, has found its Henry VIII.
British actor Mark Stanley has been cast as the iconic monarch. Best known for playing Grenn in the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” Stanley has also had starring roles in “Kajaki,” “Our Kind of Traitor” and “Dickensian.”
Boleyn was the Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 as the second wife of King Henry VIII. Their tempestuous marriage, and her execution for treason, made her one of the most colorful figures in English history. The Fable Pictures drama for U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 will explore the final months of Boleyn’s life from her perspective, and will follow her as she struggles to survive, to secure a future for her daughter, and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her.

Deadline can reveal that the ViacomCBS-owned broadcaster has commissioned a three-part series that will examine the downfall of Boleyn through the prism of a psychological thriller rather than a stuffy period drama retreading the demise of King Henry VIII’s second wife.

Lucy Brydon’s sombre debut feature follows a mother out of rehab and into complex family life
Body of Water is a sombre, painful British movie from first-time feature director Lucy Brydon. I’m still not sure what I think about this film’s overall narrative direction, or how other people affected by the issues are going to take it – but it certainly functions as an unflinchingly forthright examination of what is at stake.
The film concerns a family dysfunction over three generations: Stephanie (Sian Brooke) is a photographer and single mum who has an eating disorder, depression and drug problems, and while she has been away in one of her many stays in rehab, her angry, troubled teen daughter Pearl (Fabienne Piolini-Castle) has been living with Stephanie’s mum Susan (Amanda Burton) who has enough to worry about with her imminent wedding to her new partner Annette (Kazia Pelka...

"Sherlock" may not return for its fourth season until -- say it ain't so -- 2017, due to the hectic film schedules of in-demand stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. In the meantime, you can rewatch all three seasons and soon you can binge on Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game" and Freeman in "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies." But what then?
If you're craving more veddy British crime solving, you don't have far to look. Here are some of the best series the BBC (and ITV) has to offer, with private detectives, psychiatrists, cops, spies, and forensic pathologists all cracking cases, catching criminals and drinking lots of tea.
1. "Sherlock Holmes" (1984-1994)
If it's more Sherlock you crave (and not just Mr. Cumberbatch), then you must see Jeremy Brett's intensely intellectual (and equally arrogant) period-appropriate take on the legendary detective. This Watson is also solid, especially in "The House of the Baskervilles.

Single Handed, Set Two
Originally, Single Handed was produced by Rte for broadcast in Ireland but London based ITV bought the rights to show the rural cop drama and it quickly became a hit in Britain. Season two was co-produced by the UK network along with the Dublin based team that were responsible for the original.
In the drama, Owen McDonnell plays Jack Driscoll who is a surprisingly laid back police officer who is for the most part single-handedly keeping the folks of the West of Ireland on the straight and narrow. In this box set, Jack Driscoll solves three mysteries each of which lasts two episodes. The stories are real and involve issues such as arson, long lost relatives and out of control teenagers. Winding Refn Eyed Doctor Who Director Stint
Drive filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn's dreams were dashed after his plea to direct an episode of Doctor Who was turned down.
The Danish-born director is a big fan of the British sci-fi series and was desperate to step behind the camera and take charge of an episode - but his offer was snubbed by show bosses.
He tells Shortlist magazine, "I would have loved to direct Doctor Who but they didn't want me - turned me down last year. Maybe if they revive (U.K. sci-fi programme) Blake's 7, I could do that. I love it. It's great. That could be fun to update."
Winding Refn is no stranger to U.K. TV shows - he once directed small screen adaptations of murder mysteries featuring Agatha Christie's fictional sleuth Miss Marple.
He adds, "I did two episodes of Marple back to back because, basically, I needed the money. It was fun - a good experience. I really liked working with Geraldine McEwan, she was a great actress. And Amanda Burton too."...
