Her husband, Marine Corps Reservist, Major Gary Robert Fullerton, was a pilot on an F-18 Hornet attached to VMFA-134 during a training flight. His aircraft collided with another F-18 aircraft on July 21, 2004 during training near Arlington, Oregon. Both crew members were killed. He is buried at the Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.

"Hedy" is a corruption of "Heather" by her kid brother.

Auditioned for the role of Dorothy Wheeler in Valentine (2001), but the role eventually went to Jessica Capshaw. However, director Jamie Blanks still wanted Hedy in the film. In a meeting, they looked at each other, and both said "Ruthie".

Though the spelling is exactly the same, her stage name bears no connection to screen legend Hedy Lamarr.
