Exclusive: The Paramount Television Studios label is making a comeback — and returning to its roots.

Skydance Media on Monday morning announced the top executive team for the combined Paramount company after its acquisition of Paramount Global closes August 7. It includes Skydance’s Dana Goldberg, who will serve as Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television and will lead Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films (with Josh Greenstein) as well as Paramount Television Studios.

This marks the official rebirth of Paramount TV Studios, whose previous incarnation shut down a year ago after an 11-year run. Being housed at Paramount Pictures under Goldberg, the new Paramount TV Studios is a throwback to its original incarnation, launched in 2013 by Paramount Pictures’ Brad Grey and run by Amy Powell.

Goldberg is expected to name Skydance’s President of Television Matt Thunell as head of Paramount TV Studios, sources tell Deadline. The newly formed unit will absorb Skydance Television,...

Paramount Co-CEO Chris McCarthy to Exit Following Skydance Merger
Image
Paramount Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy will exit the company following its merger with Skydance, TheWrap has learned.

Under revised terms of their employment contracts filed with the SEC, the three Paramount co-CEOs have a change of control provision, an incurable provision that is triggered if they’re demoted from being CEO in the event of a Paramount Global sale or merger. Because Skydance announced and filed with the SEC that David Ellison will be the new CEO of the company once the merger is complete, that triggers this provision. Though the CEOs have the option to stay at Paramount if they’re offered a different role, McCarthy is not interested in remaining with the company, an insider told TheWrap.

Previously, McCarthy served as president and CEO for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. But following Bob Bakish stepping down from the company in April of 2024, McCarthy took on...

Paramount Co-CEO Chris McCarthy To Depart Upon Completion Of Skydance Acquisition As Deal Gets FCC Approval
Image
Chris McCarthy, co-ceo of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, is expected to depart the company once its acquisition by Skydance is completed early next month. The exit of McCarthy, a 22-year veteran of Paramount Global and predecessor Viacom, will become official once Skydance announces the post-merger leadership of the combined company with David Ellison as CEO. It will trigger the change-of-control provision in Paramount co-CEOs’ contracts’ as they will be effectively demoted from CEO if offered a different role. The news comes on the heels of the FCC approving the merger Thursday.

Since April 2024, McCarthy has served as Co-CEO of Paramount Global alongside George Cheeks (President of CBS) and Brian Robbins (President of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon). Of the three, Cheeks is expected to stay on after the merger, with Robbins also poised to exit.

The trio steered the company through tumultuous times as approval for the...

Tom Hardy’s Underrated Crime Drama Leaves Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone in Dust on Paramount+ Charts
Image
Tom Hardy has struck gold with MobLand, a British crime saga that has stealthily scaled Paramount+’s global streaming ladder to claim the #2 spot as of July 11, 2025. And it’s surprisingly surpassing Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which sits at #3 (per Flixpatrol). This isn’t merely a case of star power; MobLand offers a gritty narrative of warring crime families, anchored by Hardy’s portrayal of Harry Da Souza, the fixer caught in the crossfire of the Harrigan dynasty.

Created by Ronan Bennett, whose fingerprints are familiar from the groundbreaking Top Boy, MobLand is a meticulously crafted story drawing on authentic, lived experiences of gang culture, far removed from the sprawling American ranch drama that dominates Paramount+.

Tom Hardy's New Crime Series Reclaims Global Streaming Charts Dominance Just Weeks After Finale For A Fantastic Reason
Image
Tom Hardy's mob drama series, MobLand, continues to hold one of the top spots on Paramount+'s global streaming charts. The series, created by Ronan Bennett (Top Boy) and co-written by Jez Butterworth (The Agency), is quietly considered one of the best new original TV shows of 2025 by critics and audiences alike.

Hardy, who's still fresh off his star role in Gareth Evans' Netflix action thriller Havoc, stars in all ten episodes of Mobland as Harry De Souza, a street-smart "fixer" in the middle of a fight for power between two rival crime families. Veteran actors Pierce Brosnan and Helen Miran star alongside Hardy as two members of the revered Harrington family.

At the time of writing, in mid-July 2025, MobLand is back to being #1 on Paramount+'s global streaming charts today. Recently, it's been at #2 or below, but interest is back up after its season 2 renewal was announced. Also...

This Beatles Legend, 85, Admits the Script Changes He Made to the Upcoming Sam Mendes-Helmed Band Biopic
Image
For years, there have been cries for a thorough, big-budget biopic centered on music's most famous quartet: The Beatles. Now, not only are we getting one, but we're getting four, with director Sam Mendes bringing the personal and professional lives of John, Paul, George, and Ringo to the big screen in a cinematic event truly like no other. As the director told a packed audience at the CinemaCon market event earlier this year, "We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house."

Currently, Harris Dickinson is set to appear as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and, finally, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, with the trio of Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Adolescence's Jack Thorne penning each script. However, it seems as if the trio have had help piecing together the story from one of the two remaining members of the Fab Four.

Ringo Starr Explains Script Changes He Requested For Sam Mendes’ Beatles Biopic
Image
With theaters preparing for a British Invasion ahead of the upcoming Beatles cinematic event in 2028, Ringo Starr is making sure the movies get it right.

After flying to London in April to meet with director Sam Mendes, the Beatles drummer revealed he had issues with how his first marriage to Maureen Starkey Tigrett was depicted in the script for the upcoming four-part biopic about the legendary British rock band, which is penned by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne.

“He had a writer — very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,” Starr explained to The New York Times. “That’s not how we were. I’d say, ‘We would never do that.'”

Starr is now pleased with his depiction in the script, but he remains skeptical of how Mendes will shoot four films at a time.

After Harrison Ford's Final Indy Film Flopped, Indiana Jones Writer Solves How the Franchise Could Continue
Image
The Indiana Jones franchise debuted in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, and featured five films. For the last release, 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Steven Spielberg didn't return to the directorial chair, and the film disappointed in theaters.

For his last Indy film, 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Spielberg reunited with frequent collaborator David Koepp, who wrote the script. The final entry had James Mangold at the helm, and Koepp co-wrote the script with Mangold, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his latest film, Jurassic World Rebirth, Koepp solved how the Indiana Jones franchise could continue: as a streaming show.

The first four entries were massive commercial hits, but Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny flopped in theaters. Since its release, there have been no other plans to continue the franchise.

Ringo Starr Helped Rewrite Scenes for the Beatles Biopics: I ‘Would Never Do That’
Image
Don’t worry, Beatles fan: Ringo Starr is involved in that upcoming four-part Beatles biopic. The iconic drummer recently told The New York Times that he met with director Sam Mendes to go through one of the scripts line-by-line. The duo collaborated together for two days in April 2025.

While Starr did not cite which out of the assumed four scripts he reviewed, Jez Butterworth (“Ford v Ferrari”), Peter Straughan (“Conclave”) and Jack Thorne (“Adolescence”) are all announced as writing the screenplays.

Starr said he gave “extensive notes” to director Mendes while fact-checking the scripts. The scenes in particular that depicted Starr’s family and his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett (whose casting has not yet been announced), were among the sequences that Starr urged to have reworked.

“He [Mendes] had a writer — very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I,...

The Beatles’ Apple Corps Names Tom Greene CEO
Image
Apple Corps Ltd., the operating company that oversees creative and business interests of The Beatles, has tapped British executive Tom Greene as CEO, effective September 25.

He will be only the third CEO in the history of the storied company launched in 1968 to manage The Beatles’ intellectual property canon, administering the legendary band’s recorded music catalog along with film, theatrical and book publishing rights and piloting award-winning projects over the years. The firm is currently collaborating on one of the most ambitious Beatles venture yet with Sony Pictures Entertainment and filmmaker Sam Mendes — four separate theatrical films, one on each of the member of the band. It’s the first time Apple Corps and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

4 of a Kind: ‘The Beatles- A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ and What We Know About The Tetralogy So Far
Image
A Quadruple Feature On February 20, 2024, Sony Pictures released the news that they were undertaking what may very well be revolutionary in the world of cinema in this, the Information Age. Sir Sam Mendes Cbe made his name in the theatre originally, with a signature darker aesthetic on beloved classic musicals with his 1993 revival of 'Cabaret', 1994 revival of 'Oliver!', and 2003 revival of 'Gypsy'. It was the former two productions that first intrigued Steven Spielberg with Mendes, and why Spielberg- whose company DreamWorks had bought Alan Ball’s script for 'American Beauty'- hired Sam Mendes to direct the film, winning Mendes the Best Directing Oscar for this, his film debut, springboarding a career of consistently brilliant films. It’s this kind of record that has apparently imbued Sony with the confidence to back this historic project. The Sony press release reads as follows: “As conceived by Mendes,...

Pierce Brosnan & Helen Mirren's Mob Show Blows Up on Streaming
Image
Guy Ritchie's mob drama series MobLand is seeing new success on streaming following its season one finale. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren rule over a London crime family with an iron fist in the Paramount+ series.

Per FlixPatrol, MobLand is ranking as Paramount+'s third most popular content for subscribers watching through Amazon in the U.S., nearly a month after its inaugural season wrapped on June 1. The series only trails long-running procedural Criminal Minds and Showtime's The Chi as of this writing and most recently leapfrogged two spots on the rankings to hit #3 in the U.S. MobLand's current ranking put it ahead of other notable Paramount+ streaming content, including the Taylor Sheridan-produced Landman, the current season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars and even Top Gun: Maverick.

MobLand's streaming numbers got a boost in the immediate aftermath of the finale, when it finished only behind Criminal Minds,...

Watch Christian Bale’s 92% Rotten Tomatoes Oscar-Winning Period Drama Before It Leaves Streaming Soon

The last few years have been relatively quiet for Christian Bale, the Oscar-winning actor who was last seen in live-action in 2022’s The Pale Blue Eye. However, one of the highest-rated movies in his filmography just got a disappointing streaming update. Bale stars alongside Matt Damon and Jon Bernthal in Ford v Ferrari, the racing biopic following Carroll Shelby (Damon) and Ken Miles (Bale) as they work to build a revolutionary car for Ford with the hopes of defeating Ferrari at Le Mans in 1966. Ford v Ferrari is currently streaming on Prime Video, but the streamer has confirmed that it will depart that platform at the end of this month, meaning the final day to watch the film is June 30. It earned a 92% from critics and 98% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ford v Ferrari also grossed $226 million at the box office in 2019 against a reported budget of around $97 million, meaning...

Who Is Tom Rhys Harries: James Gunn Confirms His New Clayface With James Watkins Directing
Image
Dcu has found its Clayface, and interestingly, it’s none of the four actors that were initially reported to be the frontrunners, which involved Jack O’Connell, Tom Blyth, Leo Woodall, and George MacKay. Instead, James Gunn and co. have gone with a fresh face, Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries, potentially in the shoes of Matt Hagen.

While not the most obvious choice, especially given the speculations surrounding more veteran performers, their decision to lean toward a relatively unknown actor is interesting nonetheless.

Having graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and marked his West End stage debut in 2013 in Jez Butterworth’s Mojo, Tom Rhys Harries does carry the chops to do a complex figure like Clayface justice.

This is apparent from his performance in Apple TV...

DC Studios' Clayface Has Officially Found Its Lead Star (And We Know Which Clayface He's Playing)
Image
It was recently reported that the search for Clayface's lead had come down to four actors: Jack O'Connell (28 Years Later), Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Leo Woodall (The White Lotus), and George MacKay (1917).

Well, it's turned out to be none of them. DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has confirmed that Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries will take on the title role in Clayface, with The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez reporting that he'll play the Matt Hagen version of the villain.

While Harries is a relative unknown, he's racked up credits in Apple TV+'s Suspicion, as well as The Return, Kandahar, and The Gentleman.

Born in Cardiff, Wales, Harries attended The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and made his West End stage debut in 2013 in Jez Butterworth's Mojo opposite Colin Morgan, Rupert Grint, and Ben Whishaw.

Tom Rhys Harries Lands ‘Clayface’ Role In DC Studios Movie Directed By James Watkins
Image
When it came to casting the lead in DC Studios’ next big movie Clayface, the studio went with a fresh face, that being Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries.

The actor from the Uma Thurman-starring Apple TV series Suspicion and such movies as Uberto Pasolini’s The Return (starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche), the Gerard Butler action title Kandahar and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, landed the role from a competitive list of British thespians that included 28 Years Later‘s Jack O’Connell, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes‘ Tom Blyth and 1917‘s George MacKay.

The movie, from Speak No Evil director James Watkins, is the next big project for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios after next summer’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. Clayface will be shooting at Warner Bros Leavesden studio in the UK.

Tom Hardy's New 75% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Drama Stays Strong Despite Cancellation Concerns
Image
MobLand may be one of the grittiest crime dramas on TV right now, but even its fate is up in the air. Nearly a month after the Season 1 finale dropped on Paramount+, the streamer has yet to confirm whether or not the series will be returning for a second season. Still, fans aren’t letting that stop them from rallying behind the show keeping it in the global Top 10 — and they’re not alone.

Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren in a Shakespearean war of succession and betrayal set in the underbelly of Irish-British organized crime. The series currently holds a solid 75% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even stronger 77% audience score, reflecting just how invested viewers have become in the Harrigan empire's bloody chess game. While Paramount+ continues to play it coy, the cast has been vocal about their hopes to return.

Guy Ritchie & Tom Hardy's Criminally Underrated Gangster Series Rises on Streaming Following Season 1 Finale
Image
Guy Ritchie is one of the filmmakers who reunite with some actors frequently. After working with Tom Hardy in 2008 on RocknRolla, the duo recently reunited for MobLand.

The Paramount+ gangster series has been a major hit, breaking many viewership records for the streaming service. The crime series stars Hardy in one of the leading roles alongside actors like Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. Following its Season 1 finale early this month, MobLand is now gaining even more interest on Paramount+, per FlixPatrol.

Following the rise of streaming platforms, which often release full seasons of shows at once, many subscribers prefer to watch the entire season at once, and, two weeks after MobLand's Season 1 finale, the show is still going strong in the charts.

MobLand is currently in fifth place on the TV charts, behind Criminal Minds, NCIS, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Showtime's The Chi. The show has also gone up one position...

Pierce Brosnan’s New Western Debuts With an Unholy Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Pierce Brosnan started the year strong with his performance opposite Tom Hardy in Guy Ritchie’s MobLand, but the former James Bond actor has just debuted a new project that is heading down a dangerous path. Brosnan stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson in The Unholy Trinity, a Western following a man caught between a sheriff determined to keep the peace and a stranger intent on burning it down. The Unholy Trinity debuted in select theaters this weekend, and the film has earned a disastrous 17% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were much kinder to the film, reviewing it at 65% on the Popcornmeter. These scores come from 18 and 100 reviews at the time of writing, respectively, so they are subject to change as more reviews come in.

Lee Zachariah wrote the script for The Unholy Trinity, and Richard Gray directed the film. Gray most recently directed Murder at Yellowstone City, another...

Having just completed five movies and Guy Ritchie’s Shakespearean gangster series “MobLand,” Pierce Brosnan is kicking up his heels in Kauai. He’s tired, but happy to declaim on a show that he and his wife Keely Shaye Smith enjoyed watching every week as it unfurled, commercials and all. “It is a toxic mess of pure mayhem and great shenanigans,” said Brosnan on Zoom.

Brosnan was the first in, after Ritchie sent him five scripts by showrunner Ronan Bennett. At first, Brosnan figured he was going for a North or South London accent: that’s where Conrad Harrigan bases his crime family. But Ritchie had other plans, said Brosnan: “In his shoot-from-the-hip style, with great bravado, he said, ‘Go Irish. Don’t worry about it. We’ll sort it out on the day.
