2025 has been one of the weaker years for the film industry as high-budget films like Captain America: Brave New World and Snow White have failed at both impressing the audience and at the box office. While there have been many disappointments this year, it does not mean that there have been no good movies released this year, and to prove that, we have compiled a list of the best movies that have come out in 2025 so far.

Deep Cover (Prime Video) Credit – Prime Video

Deep Cover is a British action comedy film directed by Tom Kingsley from a screenplay co-written by Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly, Ben Ashenden, and Alexander Owen. Chris Evans & Pedro Pascal's New Romance Movie Debuts To Promising Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal's new romance movie debuts to a promising Rotten Tomatoes score. Evans is best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and exiting after 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Since exiting the MCU, his career has suffered significantly – starring in a series of poorly received movies such as The Gray Man, Ghosted, Pain Hustlers, and Red One – though he's looking to rebound with his upcoming roles in Ethan Coen's Honey Don't! and other movies.

Pascal, on the other hand, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent years, and he's only due for an even bigger breakout with his upcoming roles. Following the blockbuster Gladiator II and his Emmy-nominated performance as Joel in HBO's The Last of Us, Pascal stars in A24's Eddington releasing on July 18, makes his MCU debut as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps...

Image
You’d think being part of Friends and Sex and the City would mean getting some love, right? Nope. This actor got done so dirty by Satc, where his character became one of the most hated boyfriends ever. And just when it seemed like TV couldn’t treat him worse, Friends came in and said, watch this.

Eddie Cahill in a still from Friends | Credits: Warner Bros.

Instead of getting a solid arc, he got pushed aside like yesterday’s news. Two legendary shows, two brutal character treatments — someone must’ve really pissed off the TV gods.

Eddie Cahill deserved better: How Sex and the City & Friends undermined his characters A still from Friends | Credits: Warner Bros.

Eddie Cahill had back-to-back roles on two of the biggest shows of the early 2000s — Sex and the City and Friends. But in both cases? The writing did him so wrong.

Mediocre sci-fi Omni Loop needs the chance for a do-over

Measuring end-of-life anxiety with an open heart if not the most disciplined head, science-fiction-tinged drama Omni Loop serves up a couple nice moments for its lead performers, but otherwise relies on a viewer’s offscreen feelings about mortality to supply its punch. ‘Omni Loop’ Trailer: Ayo Edebiri and Mary-Louise Parker Unlock Quantum Physics in a Time Travel Comedy
Image
“Groundhog Day,” but make it about an inescapable terminal illness. In writer/director Bernardo Britto’s “Omni Loop,” Mary-Louise Parker plays a quantum physicist who learns she has only a week to live. Except she learns that many times over, and as she says in the trailer, “This has happened before. Many times.” IndieWire shares the exclusive trailer for “Omni Loop,” which premiered at SXSW and will hit theaters from Magnolia this fall, below.

Here’s the official synopsis: “A quantum physicist (Mary-Louise Parker) finds herself stuck in a time loop, with a black hole growing in her chest and only a week to live. When she meets a gifted student (Ayo Edebiri), they team up to save her life — and to unlock the mysteries of time travel.”

‘Omni Loop’ Review: A Poignant Sci-fi Statement About Life And Mortality – SXSW
Image
History repeats itself in this ingenious but surprisingly heartfelt sci-fi, which takes the premise of Groundhog Day and fashions from it a poignant statement about life and mortality. Refreshingly for the genre, it focuses on a middle-aged woman — a scientist-slash-physicist, even — whose 55th birthday and final breath will occur within the same week. But though there is an element of resistance to the latter, Omni Loop is unusual in that it isn’t simply about breaking the cycle; Bernardo Britto’s film is about facing the inevitable, gently phasing out the genre elements to reach an understated but emotional climax.

Zoya Lowe, when we first meet her, is a little girl who, a voiceover tells us, is predicted “to do incredible things one day” and “change the world”. The next time we see her, Zoya is now played by Mary-Louise Parker and things are not so positive: X-rays show a...

The Nine ‘Friends’ Thanksgiving Episodes, Ranked
Image
For 10 years, Friends‘ annual Thanksgiving episodes were a beloved tradition for fans of the NBC sitcom. And even after the series ended in 2004, fans have continued to rewatch these holiday installments on DVDs, syndication and streaming.

While the series skipped a proper Thanksgiving episode in season two (despite the Mockolate treats Courteney Cox’s Monica prepares, the main storyline revolves around the love triangle between Rachel Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel, David Schwimmer’s Ross and Lauren Tom’s Julie), the other nine seasons brought memorable moments ranging from Rachel’s beef-filled trifle to an action-packed yet comedic touch football game to a guest appearance from Aniston’s then real-life husband Brad Pitt, who played her high school nemesis.

These mostly standalone episodes also advanced the plot (Monica and Chandler, played by the late Matthew Perry, found out they were getting a baby and Chandler declared his love for Monica) and...

Tag From Friends: Who Played Him (& Where You Know Him From)
Image
Tag Jones from Friends was only a recurring character on the sitcom, but he left his mark on the show in the few episodes he appeared in, and the actor who played him is a staple of television. In Friends season 7, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) is working at Ralph Lauren, and when she is given the opportunity to hire an assistant, she chooses Tag over more qualified candidates because she finds him attractive. While Ross (David Schwimmer) is Rachel's main love interest in Friends, Tag plays an important part in Rachel's character arc, and there's a case to be made that Rachel and Tag should have ended up together in Friends.

While Rachel and Ross have a bumpy Friends relationship timeline, with a will-they, won't they dynamic that lasts the entire series, her crush on Tag is immediate, though she is repeatedly told to not pursue a romance because of the...

Sean Hayes Disputes Playwright’s Account Of Broadway-Bound Oscar Levant Project’s Origins
Image
Ten years ago, actor Sean Hayes and playwright David Adjmi were working together to develop a play based on the life of Oscar Levant, the actor, pianist and notorious wit of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Now Hayes is preparing to bring Good Night, Oscar to Broadway next spring. The play is written by Doug Wright.

Exactly how, why and when Hayes and Adjmi split up their partnership on the project is being disputed by both sides in an unusually public way. Adjmi wrote a long Facebook post detailing his perspective earlier this week, as publicity for Good Night, Oscar is just beginning to emerge. Theater twitter took note, as did The New York Times.

In response, Hayes, Wright and their producer Beth Williams have released their own extensive statement, obtained by Deadline. The two accounts of exactly how Levant came into Hayes’ life are notably different.

Adjmi, perhaps best known as the author of 3C,...

Fox has picked up a second season of its popular summer drama series Fantasy Island.

The renewal announced today follows strong ratings for the contemporary version of the classic 1977-84 series, from writer-producers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain. This past summer, the reboot starring Roselyn Sanchez and Kiara Barnes ranked as the No. 1 new scripted program among adults 18-49 and was Fox’s most streamed new drama series since 9-1-1: Lone Star in January 2020.

Delving into the “what if” questions — both big and small — that keep us awake at night, each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires.

Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6 Review: Aia i Hi'ikua; i Hi'ialo (Is Borne on the Back; Is Borne in the Arms)
Adam's back, definitely the worse for wear.

And he was right smack in the middle of a storyline on Hawaii Five-0 Season 9 Episode 6.

Shockingly, someone is trying to set him up.

I sure couldn't see that coming. Could you?

So someone planted that gun at Adam's house, the gun that's had Tani in an ethical tizzy since late last season.

The gun that she appealed to Captain Keo to test off the books for her.

That likely same someone then tipped Five-0 about the gun being at Adam's, where Tani had returned it just that morning. Convenient, huh?

It likely wasn't a coincidence that Duke showed up with the search warrant that day. After all, before then, there was no Adam on whom to serve the warrant.

Hayley Atwell in Conviction (2016)
Conviction Premiere: Is Hayley Atwell's Legal Drama Worth a Second Look?
Hayley Atwell in Conviction (2016)
From a human resources standpoint, Conviction‘s Hayes Morrison is kind of a nightmare. In her first five days on the job, Hayley Atwell’s character called her co-worker a “moron,” day-drank in her office and pretended to do coke in front of her boss.

Related2017 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Cancelled? What’s on the Bubble?

Fortunately, Hayes is also a damn good investigator, which might explain why New York District Attorney Conner Wallace (CSI: NY‘s Eddie Cahill) was so quick to pluck her from a jail cell — Hayes is #SorryNotSorry for partying! — and...

Conviction Review: Hayley Atwell's 'Bad Girl' Sheds Scandalous Ways Too Fast
Hayley Atwell in Conviction (2016)
ABC clearly loves Hayley Atwell, though not enough to keep Agent Carter on the air. So after giving Peggy her walking papers in May, ABC has Atwell fronting this fall’s Conviction, a snappy, Scandal-esque legal drama (premiering Monday at 10/9c). But is it worthy of Atwell’s considerable talents, or your time? The jury, as they say, is still out.

When we meet Hayes Morrison (Atwell), she’s stretching and dancing in a jail cell. She’s been there before, you see: She’s the wild-child daughter of a powerful political family — her mom’s a U.S.

Conviction Season 1 Review
One episode was provided prior to broadcast.

Important note: I’m a complete fanatic for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and everything even remotely related to it. That’s why I was simultaneously distraught when ABC canceled my favorite McU cable network show, Marvel’s Agent Carter, and elated when it kept the divine Hayley Atwell around for one of its new crime shows Conviction, which is a notch above Betrayal and a step below Notorious as far as generically meaningless titles go. Alas, it’s a near tragedy to discover that Atwell’s role in the series, which she at least prevents from being a complete waste of time with one or two moments of charm, could essentially be played by anyone and elicit the same result.

Unlike the coterie of incarcerated innocents at the center of the show, Conviction does no one participating one iota of good: everyone is...

Conviction Review – ABC – A Solid Show May Lose Itself To Its Own Gimmick
ABC is at this point so enamored with the idea of television that weaves in melodrama and struggles under the weight of dragging along its own gimmick that it can’t leave an interesting premise alone.

Such are the problems you have to hope drift to the sidelines as Conviction maneuvers through further episodes.

The heart of the show revolves around a new investigative unit in New York City – the Conviction Integrity Unit – that gets five days per case to go over convictions to see if they can find any innocent people who are sitting behind bars. The team consists of a prosecutor, a star defense attorney, a crack investigator, and a specialist in forensics and all things science related.

It’s not a bad premise, and it gives us a chance to explore police drama from a fresh perspective and stay on top of headlines and/or the relevant niche of the zeitgeist.

‘Conviction’ Stars Hayley Atwell, Eddie Cahill Talk Getting Combative (Exclusive Video)
Hayley Atwell
A version of this interview with Hayley Atwell and Eddie Cahill first appeared in the print edition of TheWrap Magazine’s Fall TV Issue. In ABC’s “Conviction,” 34-year-old Hayley Atwell (Marvel’s “Agent Carter“) plays Hayes Morrison, a former First Daughter who is found with cocaine and strong-armed by a Da (Eddie Cahill, 38) into heading New York’s Conviction Integrity Unit in this ABC drama. What makes this show special? Hayley Atwell: This is a fast-paced legal procedural, but at the center of it is a woman who is pretty blurry around the edges. She’s very close to pushing the self-destruct button.
