AOL has teamed up with Ben Silverman's Electus on a new morning show, "AOL Daybreak, to be featured on the company's home page. The first episode of the morning news roundup, debuted on Monday morning. The inaugural show featured host Lindsay Campbell asking people on the streets of New York City about what they are looking for in a morning news show. Campbell is best known for her work hosting the humorous financial web series Wallstrip (acquired by CBS in 2007) and for co-creating the news and politics web series MobLogic. "AOL Daybreak"...

I told you AOL was going to get serious about web series. Mike Shields at Mediaweek reports the global internet services and media company is launching three new, daily original programs starting Monday, November 1. Those include: You've Got A play on AOL's contribution to modern America's lexicon of slogans that features a 45-second monologue "conducted by various celebrities and average citizens," including Kelly Ripa, Elmo, and Jon Stewart's most famous Daily Show guest, President Barack Obama. AOL Daybreak Wallstrip and Moblogic alum (and new mom!) Lindsay Campbell plays host on this morning talk show. Electus, Ben Silverman's next generation studio, will produce the series, which Shields writes AOL execs describe as "like morning radio on the Internet." The One Next New Networks will produce this series, set to air in the afternoons and feature "celebrities, comedians, and AOL staffers discussing the biggest story of the day in two-minute sessions.

Encoding and uploading problems? Seems even the pros have their share of them. Back on Tuesday we ran the news that Lindsay Campbell is back in the web series world with her new series out of Next New Networks called Small Business Rules. the show was supposed to go live that day but a set of uploading issues with the Amex Open Forum site, where the show is exclusively distributed for now, caused the release to be delayed until late last night. So today people are finally getting a look at the series, though for some reason there are no embeddable versions of it. Um, just a hunch, but there are probably more people that would dig this show than the handful that hang out on Amex site. Their sponsor branding, after all, is built into the episodes. Kind of a launch fail if you ask us. In other web...

Lindsay Campbell is back on the web. Today kicks off the first season of Small Business Rules, a new web series from Next New Networks starring Campbell in a familiar role as business-minded host meeting top entrepreneurs around the country. We've been watching Campbell's online work for years now, and most readers will recognize her as the first host of CBS's popular Wall Street satire series Wallstrip, which was cancelled late last year along with Campbell's subsequent series, the Streamy-nominated Moblogic. The Stanford grad brings a unique blend of business savvy with lighthearted and lively hosting chops. Next New Networks' co-founder Tim Shey knew this when he approached her first to host the new series. "We knew she could talk credibly about business," said Shey. "We needed somebody who could be great host, produce, write and think of things on the fly." He added that unlike Wallstrip, which often featured large public companies,...

Ever since we first saw new Bond girl Camille (played by Olga Kurylenko) in Quantum of Solace we fell in love – and we’re not talking about the Ukrainian actress. Wearing a gorgeous one-off Prada dress and glamorous black high heels by Gina to a party in Panama, she soon had us searching for a lookalike ensemble which we duly found (get it here), however for those with deeper pockets or more luxurious taste, the original designer ensemble went under the hammer on Saturday night at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh. The clothes were donated by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and auctioned to benefit the Scottish children’s charity, the Muir Maxwell Trust alongside other expensive goodies.

Stories like this one are what make me cynical. Moblogic.tv is thoughtful, passionate, opinionated journalism with humility and humor. It speaks with — not at — a generation sometimes too consumed with itself, and it seeks original stories with meaning and purpose. CBS Intaractive, which acquired Wallstrip and its production company in May 2007, is no longer supporting the production of Moblogic and, instead, has devoted the talent behind one of the internet’s most respectable shows to another which shares none of its virtues. Why? I’m not sure, but I’d guess it’s related to somewhat lagging viewership. Moblogic launched last March with fevered anticipation and has had a nice run with stories ranging from reckless executions to civil rights to peak oil. The team behind the show will continue to release new episodes, though less frequently, All Things Digital reports. I understand CBS’ decision. The media business is still a business,...
