Peter Bergman leads Daytime Emmy predictions for Best Drama Actor, but Dominic Zamprogna is gaining momentum
Image
The Young and the Restless star Peter Bergman has already made history by receiving his record 25th nomination at the Daytime Emmys for Best Drama Actor. To date, he's won three of those contests for playing Jack Abbott in 1991, 1992, and 2002. If he claims No. 4 this year, he'd be behind only Anthony Geary (eight wins for General Hospital) and David Canary (five wins for All My Children) on the category's all-time winners list.

This Daytime Emmys race is shaping up to be a battle between Bergman and Dominic Zamprogna (General Hospital), who's on his second lead nomination as Dante Falconeri after previously earning three bids in supporting. According to Gold Derby's predictions, Bergman has a 68 percent chance of winning, compared to a 15 percent chance for Zamprogna. But the latter has gained momentum in recent weeks, up 4 points from the time the noms were announced.

The other Best Drama Actor nominees all...

Image
All My Children spoilers and updates reveal the classic soap opera, which has been off the air for quite some time, could be making a comeback through a series of television movies.

Daytime Emmys flashback: 3rd time was the charm for dastardly Michael Zaslow (‘Guiding Light’) 30 years ago
Image
“I want to thank my wife, my partner in life — Susan Hufford — who made this possible. Not only this, but all the good things in my life since I met her. And I tell you this not only because it’s true, but because she told me to tell you. Because she said that’s what David Canary and Peter Bergman always say.”

Those were the heartfelt words of Michael Zaslow of “Guiding Light” as he accepted the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Actor in 1994. It was his third time in as many years vying for the prize for his part as Springfield’s most reviled citizen, Roger Thorpe. Zaslow had played Roger from 1971 to 1980, and resumed the role in 1989. He seemed genuinely surprised when Linda Dano (the 1993 Daytime Emmy winner for Best Actress for “Another World”) read his name.

The Golden Bachelorette Spoilers: Susan Lucci’s Publicist Contacted, But She Just Said No?
Image
The Golden Bachelorette spoilers and updates reveal Susan Lucci’s publicist was contacted about her competing on the show after finding out she’s a fan of the Bachelor franchise.

However, when Susan was notified, she declined-she just said no, revealing it to People Magazine after Joan Vassos, 61, had been announced as the first Golden Bachelorette for this fall.

Golden Bachelorette Spoilers – Susan Lucci’s Been Married One Time And Widowed

Contrary to her much-married All My Children character Erica Kane, who was married-count ‘em-ten times to six men, Susan has only been married once in real life.

Her television husbands were Jeff Martin (John James), Tom Cudahy, (Richard Shoberg) Phillip Brent, (Nick Benedict) Adam Chandler, (David Canary) and Mike Roy, (Nicholas Surovy).

She married Travis Montgomery (Daniel Hugh-Kelly) and Dimitri Marick (Michael Nader) each twice and Erica’s latest husband was Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey).

Daytime Emmys flashback: Hillary B. Smith (‘One Life to Live’) won 30 years ago for defending the indefensible
Image
When the nominations for the 21st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced in 1994, one outcome was immediately made certain. There was no way that Susan Lucci of “All My Children” could lose … Because for the first time in 13 years, she wasn’t in the running for Best Actress for her role as Erica Kane.

The snub caught everyone in the industry by surprise, especially since Lucci was considered to have had a remarkable year on the show.

Those selected in lieu of Lucci in 1994 included her “All My Children” co-star Julia Barr as Brooke English, the Daytime Emmys’ reigning Best Actress Linda Dano as Felicia Gallant on “Another World,” Fiona Hutchison as Jenna Bradshaw on “Guiding Light,” Hillary B. Smith as Nora Gannon on “One Life to Live” and Kathleen Widdoes as Emma Snyder on “As the World Turns.” It...

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Bonanza
Image
The Western is a genre that's mostly gone by the wayside in recent decades, as portraits of straight-shooting American heroes and uncomplicated "bad guys" have become less digestible to the public. While popular neo-Westerns (like "Justified" or the works of Taylor Sheridan) and perspective-changing genre breakdowns have made a splash in recent yers, the genre has mostly died out. Of the relics that remain, few are as prolific and familiar as "Bonanza," a Western series that ran for an impressive 14 seasons on NBC in the '60s and '70s.

As a long-running TV series, "Bonanza" was able to chart the change — or stubborn lack thereof — within the genre and the country, frankly addressing topics like racism and bigotry while also delivering regular laughs and a dash of melodrama to loyal viewers. The series starred Lorne Green as widower Ben Cartwright and Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, and Michael Landon as Ben's three sons.

Maurice Benard (‘General Hospital’) on his 3rd Daytime Emmy win, mental health, and playing a ‘cool-ass character’ for 28 years [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
“Sonny’s energy is dark and dreadful, but he’s a cool-ass character,” declares Maurice Benard about the role he’s played on ABC’s “General Hospital” since 1993. Playing mob boss Sonny Corinthos on the long-running soap has earned the actor nine Daytime Emmy nominations, and wins as Best Actor in 2003, 2019 and now 2021. This makes Benard one of only five actors in Daytime Emmy history to win three or more times in the lead-actor category. Watch our exclusive video interview with Benard above.

Winning those three Emmys took a while. It took 10 years for the actor to win his first, and then another 16 to win his second. But the gap has given him perspective on awards and what they mean for him in general. “I’m not happy now because I won an Emmy — I’m just happy,” he exclaims. “When I was young … if I would lose I would...

Maurice Benard (‘General Hospital’) would join an exclusive club if he wins Best Actor at 2021 Daytime Emmys
Image
Maurice Benard earned his eighth Best Actor nomination at the Daytime Emmys this year for his role as Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital.” That ties him with Eric Braeden (“The Young and the Restless”) and Larry Bryggman (“As the World Turns”) as the third most nominated actor in the history of the category. Now he’s the front-runner to win according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. If we’re right he would join another exclusive club as one of the few soap stars who have won the category three or more times.

SEEFinola Hughes could be the first ‘General Hospital’ star to win Best Actress twice at the Daytime Emmys

To date only four actors have claimed that many Best Actor trophies. Benard’s former “Gh” co-star Anthony Geary is far and away the record holder with eight victories, more than any soap actor or actress has won in any categories.

Finola Hughes could be the first ‘General Hospital’ star to win Best Actress twice at the Daytime Emmys
Image
For a show as dominant at the Daytime Emmys as “General Hospital” has been over the course of its run (including a record 13 victories for Best Drama Series), it has a surprisingly mixed track record in the Best Actress race. The show has only won that award three times, for Finola Hughes (1991), Laura Wright (2011), and Maura West (2015). Hughes is nominated again this year, so will she finally break the “Gh” curse by becoming the first lead actress to win twice for the show?

SEEDarin Brooks Finally nominated at the Daytime Emmys for ‘Bold and Beautiful,’ but can he win?

Hughes first joined “Gh” in 1985 as Anna Devane, and she’s been playing the spy-turned-cop off-and-on ever since. But after her 1991 Emmy win she didn’t receive another nomination until 2000, when she contended for Best Actress for playing Anna’s twin sister Alex Devane on “All My Children.” Since returning to...

Jon Lindstrom is a decades-long veteran of soaps with roles spanning “General Hospital,” “Port Charles” and “As the World Turns.” But his Best Actor nomination this year at the Daytime Emmys is only the second of his career. He’s up for his best known role — or actually, roles — as Kevin Collins and his twin brother Ryan Chamberlain on “Gh.” So will these awards be a two-for-one deal for the television academy?

These awards are decided by blue ribbon panels judging sample performance reels from every actor, so what did Lindstrom submit to earn this nomination? And was it good enough to win? Find out all about it below in our analysis.

Daytime Emmy reel analysis 2019: Marci Miller (‘Days’) gives a ‘killer’ performance as Abby, Gabby and Dr. Laura
Marci Miller in Dog Bowl (2015)
Marci Miller (“Days of Our Lives”) earned her second straight Best Actress nomination at the Daytime Emmys this year for her performance as Abigail Deveraux. But this may be her last chance to win since she left the series last fall. In fact, two actresses could win Emmys this year for the role since Kate Mansi is up for Best Guest Performer for stepping back into the character’s shoes at the end of the year. It would be fitting if multiple actresses prevail on one night since Abigail had multiple personalities last year.

Will Miller get a nice parting gift from the television academy? The nominees and winners for these awards were both decided in one round by blue ribbon panels judging sample performance reels. Those reels weren’t released publicly this year, but they were made available to the press. So here’s the scoop on what Miller entered for consideration.

Eileen Davidson, Bryton James, Joshua Morrow, Gina Tognoni, Justin Hartley, Melissa Claire Egan, and Peter Bergman in The Young and the Restless (1973)
Are the Daytime Emmys almost upon us? Then it must be time for “The Young and the Restless” star Peter Bergman to start ironing his tux. The actor has been a fixture in daytime television since 1979, and over the course of his career he has been nominated for Best Actor a whopping 21 times, far more than anyone else. This year he’s looking for number-22, but even though he’s a perennial nominee, he’s an infrequent winner. It has been 17 years since his last victory. Will he finally return to the podium? For his 40th anniversary in soaps, the traditional gift would be ruby, but he’d probably be just as happy with gold.

The first decade of Bergman’s career (1979-1989) was spent on “All My Children,” where he played Cliff Warner. But during that decade he only earned one nomination (1983). His Emmy supremacy didn’t really begin...

Jon Lindstrom 2009 Emmy Awards Los Angeles
Will Jon Lindstrom (‘General Hospital’) win an overdue first Daytime Emmy for resurrecting his evil twin?
Jon Lindstrom 2009 Emmy Awards Los Angeles
Jon Lindstrom has been a veteran of daytime dramas for decades, but he has only ever been nominated for one Emmy over the course of his career: Best Actor in 2010 for “As the World Turns,” where he played Craig Montgomery for two years before that show’s cancellation that same year. He has never even been nominated for his most famous roles: identical twins Kevin Collins and Ryan Chamberlain on “General Hospital.” Could this be the year he finally prevails?

Lindstrom first joined “Gh” in 1992 as Ryan, who was eventually revealed to be a serial killer. After he was found out the show introduced his benevolent twin brother, psychiatrist Kevin, in 1993. Kevin remained on the show even after Ryan was killed off, and then he migrated over to the “Gh” spin-off “Port Charles,” which ran from 1997-2003. Kevin later returned to “Gh” full-time in 2013.

Dear Abby: Both Kate Mansi and Marci Miller (‘Days of Our Lives’) could win Daytime Emmys for the same role
Marci Miller in Dog Bowl (2015)
In the world of soaps it’s common for roles to be recast, so there are characters who have earned Daytime Emmy nominations and wins for multiple actors. But there’s an unusual situation taking shape at this year’s awards: there could be two actors nominated for the same role in the same year. Marci Miller and Kate Mansi are both pre-nominated for playing Abigail Deveraux on “Days of Our Lives.” And since they’re in different categories, both of them could even win.

The role of Abby had been played by several actresses at various ages before Mansi assumed the role in 2011. She stayed on the show until 2016, and for her last year on the air, during which her character was terrorized by a serial killer, the academy gave her a farewell hug by awarding her Best Supporting Actress.
