President Jimmy Carter posthumously won his fourth Grammy for best audiobook narration at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Carter won the trophy for his narration of Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration, a 10-track album of folk songs and Sunday school lessons from the former president. The album came out in August 2024, less than two months before Carter turned 100. He died on Dec. 29. The late president’s grandson, Jason Carter, accepted the trophy onstage.
“My grandfather was incredibly important to me,” Jason said. “Over these last few weeks, we’ve felt this enormous outpouring of love from all around the world, from many of the people in this room, and I just want to say that having his words captured in this way for my family and for the world is truly remarkable.”
Jason went on to introduce Kabir Sehgal, also onstage, who provided instrumental arrangements for the album.

Dave Chappelle won best comedy album at the 2025 Grammys on Sunday, his third win in a row in the category and sixth win overall.
The Recording Academy presented the comedy album trophy during the premiere ceremony, which took place before the televised event later on Sunday. Chappelle was not present to accept the trophy.
Chappelle won for The Dreamer, his 2023 New Year’s Eve Netflix special. The new hour was Chappelle’s seventh for the streamer, and his first since the ultra-controversial 2021 special The Closer, which brought the comedian under fire for jokes about the transgender community.
In The Dreamer, Chappelle still targeted several different marginalized groups, including trans people and the disabled. “I love punching down!” he said at one point in the special.
Chappelle’s win beat Ricky Gervais’ Armageddon, Jim Gaffigan’s The Prisoner, Nikki Glaser’s Someday You’ll Die and Trevor Noah’s Where Was I.

When Joe Biden eulogized Jimmy Carter in the majestic surroundings of Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, he said of his predecessor, “Many think he was from a bygone era, but he saw into the future.”
As other speakers noted, Carter was prescient on a host of issues including climate change and women’s rights, but inside the cathedral were reminders that when it comes to politics, the future looks much different than the late president probably could have ever envisioned it.
Carter’s adviser Stuart Eizenstat noted that much of Carter’s agenda passed with bipartisan support in the 1970s; at the cathedral today, in the area reserved for members of Congress, there were only a handful of Republicans. Many seats were empty.

Jimmy Carter, who followed a principled yet tumultuous single term in the White House with a post-presidency dedicated to human rights and peace advocacy, died this afternoon in his hometown Plains, Ga., The Carter Center said.
The nonprofit organization said there would be public observances in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., as well as a private interment in Plains, Ga. The final arrangements of a state funeral are still pending.
Chip Carter, his son, said in a statement: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

On his 100th birthday, Carter is in hospice care and confined to his modest Plains, Ga home, but in recent months, “he’s really gotten re-engaged with the world,” his grandson, Jason Carter, told The New York Times. The former president did make an appearance outdoors today, surrounded by family, to watch a military flyover to make his birthday.

At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has entered hospice care, according to her grandson.
“She and President Carter are spending time with each other and their family,” Jason Carter said in a statement. “The Carter family continues to ask for privacy and remains grateful for the outpouring of love and support.”
The Carter Center announced in May that the former first lady has dementia. Rosalynn Carter, 96, has been a longtime mental health advocate, including during her tenure in the White House from 1977 to 1981. She is the founder of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers.
Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, entered hospice care at home in February.
The Carters made a surprise public appearance in September, when they were driven in an SUV during the Plains Peanut Festival.
The Carters celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in July. They are the longest-married presidential couple.

Molly Tuttle pays tribute to a free-spirited woman in the new song “She’ll Change.” It’s the singer-guitarist’s first release from an upcoming 2022 album, her first with record label Nonesuch.
Tuttle penned the song with Old Crow Medicine Show frontman Ketch Secor, and the end result is a sprightly tune on which the picking dives off in ways as surprising and unpredictable as the woman being described. “She don’t worry about tomorrow/She’s got plenty on her mind,” Tuttle begins, dashing off nifty acoustic-guitar runs between lines.

A new version of the Emmy-winning space opera television series Babylon 5 is in the works. The CW has put in development Babylon 5, described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series, from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last,...

For the past five years, Patterson Hood has lived in Portland, Oregon, more than 2,600 miles away from his former hometown of Athens, Georgia. Aiming to leverage Entertainment Tonight‘s brand equity in the streaming era, CBS has launched Et Live, an ad-supported, round-the-clock service complementing the company’s existing news and sports offerings.
With a different set and on-air talent roster from the “mother ship” syndicated show, a mainstay for nearly four decades, the new streaming service is available via Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android and iOS devices. Deals with other distribution partners will soon be announced, CBS said.
Investors already had gotten a teaser for the new Et service over the summer. During their August conference call with Wall Street analysts to discuss second-quarter results (the last appearance by former CEO Les Moonves), executives announced an Et-branded service would launch by the fall. While CBS continues to have a strong linear portfolio, it has acknowledged changes in the media landscape of late by pushing direct-to-consumer efforts. Thirty years since it ended, we revisit much-loved 80s historical fantasy series Robin Of Sherwood...
The Robin Hood legend has been retold in countless ways, but one of the most memorable of modern times is Richard Carpenter’s hugely influential 1980s imagining, telling the story of Sherwood’s band of outlaws with a combination of realism and luminous fantasy with its roots in British folklore.
Made by Htv in association with production company Goldcrest Films (which was also behind Chariots Of Fire and Gandhi), its 26 episodes ran on ITV from 1984 to 1986, garnering a positive critical reception and inspiring a fan following that’s still enthusiastically active today.
Much of the success of the show was down to the spot-on casting and the chemistry between the performers. Michael Praed’s charismatic-yet-otherworldly presence as Robin was the perfect match for the show’s aesthetic, and the more down-to-earth Little John,...

Mbc’s pan-Arab show Laish La (Why Not?) has turned to Dubai-based, crowd-funding site Aflamnah to finance a project to rebuild a women’s radio station in the Gaza Strip.
The popular show, fronted by four Saudi social activists with big YouTube followings, aims to fulfil wishes sent in by viewers.
For their latest project, they are trying to raise $20,000 to help rebuild the Nisaa radio station, the first community radio station in the Gaza Strip for women, which was destroyed during the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory over the summer.
“It’s an interesting concept for us, combining a radio station, TV show and crowd-funding,” said Vida Rizq, who runs Aflamnah alongside co-founder Lotfi Bencheikh. “These guys have a huge following on YouTube and the campaign has generated some 100,000 hits since it started two weeks ago.”

The sci-fi and fantasy genres simply wouldn’t be the same without a bit of arresting facial hair on its protagonists. Here are Sarah’s top 10 beards...
Beards are awesome, aren’t they? The right kind of beard can make any man into… well, a slightly hairier man, but theoretically a much more awesome man. Beards seem pretty intrinsically linked with sci-fi and fantasy, too: there are some kinds of facial hair that just scream “this is the future!” while “beardy” has been used as an adjective to suggest excessive nerdiness.
We, of course, would never use “beard” in a pejorative sense, ever. Because, as previously mentioned, beards are awesome. Here are the ten best beards in all of sci-fi and fantasy:
10. Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane)
The Harry Potter franchise
According to an article in Scotland on Sunday, part of the character concept for Hagrid is that he’s a “mountain of leather and hair.

I have a long history with Scifi conventions. I attended the second or third Star Trek Convention ever held in the early 70s when I was barely a teenager. The Hubs has been going to Philcon forever, it seems. However, it wasn’t until moving to Los Angeles that we really started attending major conventions with any frequency. That wasn’t by any design on our part. I had begun the insane writing experiment, The Secret Logs of Mistress Janeway. Because of those stories and later, the webpage, we started getting invitations to speak on panels at conventions. We became even more popular on convention panels after I appeared in the documentary, Trekkies. I was in fangirl heaven for a while. If a convention paid for me to attend, I had money to buy lots of stuff from the vendors. I bought t-shirts and buttons from my favorite shows, and I wore them,...

Unfortunately, his efforts to debut Tales of an Ancient Empire during the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con didn't pan out, but that hasn't stopped director Albert Pyun from coming up with Plan B. This weekend, on Saturday, July 31st to be exact, the film will have its world premiere at Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky.
