Has appeared in three films that were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: Breaking Away (1979), Chariots of Fire (1981) and Django Unchained (2012). Of those, Chariots of Fire (1981) won in the category. All three films won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Was actually 29 years old when he played the role in Breaking Away (1979), for which he won a Best Juvenile Actor in a Motion Picture Award.

Paul Dooley and Christopher have played father and son twice in movies: Liam and Hughie Brenner in A Wedding (1978), and Raymond and Dave Stoller in Breaking Away (1979). They later played father and son (Stan and Roger Coffman) in the "Cherry Red" episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001).

Graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania--Class of 1968 (as Dennis Carrelli).

In 1968 he enrolled at Temple University, but after only three semesters he dropped out in favor of moving to L.A. to get his acting career underway.

Is the youngest of four children born to Vincent Albert Carrelli (February 26, 1912 - January 1, 1981), an insurance salesman, and the former Anna Marie Doogan (March 20, 1914 - March 16, 1966). They were married on November 26, 1936. His siblings are Vince Cannon (December 9, 1937 - August 15, 1998), Patricia Ann Carrelli Kratzinger Laros (January 23, 1941 - October 19, 2019), and Edward Joseph Carrelli (born February 23, 1945).

Working as Halston's assistant in the 1980s, he helped design the Halston III collection for J.C. Penny.
