Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers is set in the last weeks of 1970 and, if attention is paid, you’ll see Da’Vine Joy Randolph pay homage to Isabel Sanford, particularly how the tv legend wore her hair when she played Louise “Weezy” Jefferson in the classic TV comedy The Jeffersons.

“I do this all the time with my characters,” Randolph tells me as she explains how she likes to distract herself from “Da’Vine,” and of how she has sacrificed much of her private life to her professional life.

Chris Sanders is in final negotiations to voice the character of Stitch in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Tia Carrere, who originally voiced Nani in the first film, will also play the newly-created Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill will star as a new character named Tūtū.

Sanders, who wrote and directed the original feature alongside Dean DeBlois, voiced the creature, which he also created, in the 2002 Lilo & Stitch, as well as Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003-2006). Amazon is doubling down on technology, fan appeal, and its vast monetary resources to woo Emmy voters in 2019. For the third consecutive year, the streaming giant will host a nearly month-long string of events in the heart of Hollywood in order to showcase its Emmy-eligible original series.

In the contemporary film races, “Crazy Rich Asians” was nominated alongside “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” “Ocean’s 8,” “A Star Is Born” (extending its streak of nominations from every single industry group so far) and “Widows.”

For period film, nominees were “BlacKkKlansman,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Favourite,” “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Mary Queen of Scots.”

Nominated for sci-fi/fantasy were “Aquaman,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther,” “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” and “A Wrinkle in Time.”

In the television categories, nominees included “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” “This Is Us,” “Glow,” “Outlander,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.”

The Cga has announced its 2019 nominees in three film categories, seven television categories, and one short form design category, and the group brings expected Oscar contenders up against some fun, lighter fare like “Mamma Mia!” and “A Wrinkle in Time.”

A majority of IndieWire awards editor Anne Thompson’s current predictions to land Oscar nominations for Best Costume Design are represented by the Cdga. Erin Benach (“A Star Is Born”) and Ruth Carter (“Black Panther”) are competing in the Excellence in Contemporary Film and Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film categories, respectively, while Julian Day (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Sandy Powell (“The Favourite”) are nominated in the Excellence in Period Film. The final alterations and trims have been made, so now we have the list of nominations for the Costume Designers Guild’s 21st annual Cdga. The awards will be handed out February 19 during the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton. Read the list below.

The top film and TV noms each are split into three categories — contemporary, period and sci-fi/fantasy. A number of awards-season regulars made the cut on the film side, with noms going to the costumers behind A Star Is Born, Crazy Rich Asains, BlackKklansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite and 2018’s top-grossing domestic release, Black Panther. The No. 1 film of last year worldwide, Avengers, Infinity War, also scooped a nomination.

The highly anticipated original contemporary anthology series, The Romanoffs, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video Friday, October 12 with new episodes released weekly, on Fridays.

This is the first anthology series for Amazon Prime Video that will roll out on a weekly basis. The Romanoffs will be available initially in the original version in over 200 countries and territories, with dubbed foreign language versions coming in early 2019.

“The Romanoffs,” Weiner’s highly-anticipated follow-up to “Mad Men,” will feature eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. Weiner created, wrote, directed, and executive produced the series.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the brand new trailer for next summer’s disaster-suspense film San Andreas.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson and Paul Giamatti.

Shot on location in The Gold Coast and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, San Andreas is slated to open in theatres in both 3D and 2D format on Friday, May 29, 2015.

This isn’t the first film where Southern California has been destroyed on the silver screen. San Francisco (1936) is based on the April 18, 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Directed by Woody Van Dyke, the drama stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy.

Airport originated the 1970s disaster film genre and audiences were deluged with a series of movies including the original Earthquake (1974). These films always included a huge cast, where many of the actors usually perished by the climax.

While science-fiction and period costume can sell to collectors at auction for tens of thousands of dollars, the future of contemporary costume from the contemporary drama, comedy and thriller genres is unclear. Costumes from films set in the modern age are not valued as highly. Sourced from costume houses, high-street stores, and even actor’s own wardrobes, these pieces could be lost for good for future generations of collectors and fans if current mentality doesn’t change.

Contemporary costume, even from popular movies, is surprisingly hard to trace. What has happened to George Clooney’s Aloha shirts from The Descendants? The Art Directors Guild and the Costume Designers Guild have become the latest groups to announce their nominees for 2013. They may not be considered as big or as important as the Producers Guild, the Directors Guild, or the Writers Guild, but they are still a pretty good prognosticator for who will eventually take home the Oscar in their respective categories.

The Art Directors split their categories up into Period, Fantasy, and Contemporary Films (along with various TV categories), but the main one of importance here is the Period, where we find the more fanciful, eye-catching designs. Here, we find what was mostly expected: American Hustle, The Great Gatsby, Inside Llewyn Davis, Saving Mr. Banks, and 12 Years a Slave. For the 16th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards the field is filled with outstandingly talented nominees, with the winners to be announced on February 22nd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Excellence in Contemporary Film hopefuls include Suzy Benzinger (“Blue Jasmine”), Casey Storm (“Her”), Wendy Chuck (“Nebraska”), Consolata Boyle (“Philomena”) and Sarah Edwards (“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”).

Additionally, writer/producer/director Judd Apatow will receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award for his years of contributions to the industry.

The Oscar voting deadline is today at 5 Pm Pst and if there are any Academy stragglers looking for help from the guilds they not only got the Directors Guild nominations yesterday, but the Cinematographers this morning and now the Costume Designers Guild have weighed in with their nominees in three categories -- Contemporary, Period and Fantasy Films. Obviously when it comes to Oscar predictions it's natural to lean toward period pieces and in this case it's interesting to see neither The Invisible Woman or The Book Thief among the nominees. I also wonder if Casey Storm can end up with an Oscar nomination with her near-future designs in Her, a film I didn't even have among my predictions (which, to be honest, were a little dusty they'd been so ignored), but have now moved into the top five. Nominees for the 16th Costume Designers Guild Awards, which celebrate excellence in film, television and commercial costume design, were announced today.

The winners of the seven competitive awards will be revealed at the gala on Saturday, February 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

This year, Judd Apatow will receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award in recognition of his support of Costume Design and creative partnerships with Costume Designers. An Honorary Career Achievement Award will be presented to Costume Designer April Ferry for her outstanding work in film and television.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences brings you the Oscars (yep, that's why they're called Academy Awards), and on Friday, the organization announced that it was prepared to invite 176 new folks to its fold.

In a list posted on its website, the Academy deemed Matthew McConaughey, Jean Dujardin, Terrence Malick, Jonah Hill, Berenice Bejo, Jessica Chastain, Octavia Spencer and a host of other film luminaries worthy of inclusion in its nearly 6,000-member army.

The Academy has drawn the ire of critics who bemoan its overwhelmingly male, white population. A Los Angeles Times investigation found that of all Academy members, 94 percent are Caucasian and 77 percent are male. A mere 2 percent are black, with Latinos constituting an even smaller portion. Only 14 percent of members are under the age of 50.

Full members of the Academy select and vote on Oscars nominees. The organization was started in 1927 and is now governed by a 43-person board.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 176 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2012 to the Academy.s roster of members.

Terrence Malick, who somehow wasn’t already a member, received an invitation, as did fellow directors Rodrigo Garcia and Asghar Farhadi.

For actors, Melissa McCarthy’s invitation continues her incredible post-Bridesmaids rise. In addition, actors Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Andy Serkis, Jessica Chastain, and Octavia Spencer were all invited to be members, among others.

Voting membership in the organization has now held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003, according to the Academy’s website.

The votes have been counted, prizes dished out and winners’ speeches read. Now the Big Three honours have all been awarded it is time to list the lucky recipients and give them the hearty round of applause they deserve.

First to be announced on 12th February was the BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) award for Best Costume Design, which the BBC typically and shamefully edited from their main broadcast, sandwiching it with Cinematography, Editing and other worthy categories ninety seconds before the end credits. The Costume Designers Guild has announced winners of its 14th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards! In the movie category, nominations are broken down into three separate categories namely Contemporary, Fantasy, and Period.

David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" won the Contemporary category; "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" received the Best Fantasy and Madonna's "W.E." took home the Period prize.

The Gala event, hosted by Jane Lynch, was held yesterday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Would you look at that, I was waiting for the Costume Designers Guild (Cdg) to announce their winners because I thought it would help me in deciding whether I wanted to predict Hugo or The Artist would win the Oscar for Best Costume Design. But I was so caught up in the battle among the front-runners that I overlooked the fact the craft awards don't always go to the favorites and the Cdg now gives us good reason to go against the tide. Even when Madonna's latest directorial effort was getting slammed by critics at the Venice Film Festival last year one aspect of the film even the harshest of critics refused to show resentment toward were Arianne Phillips' costumes. As the final guilds begin weighing in before Tuesday's Oscar nominations are announced, the Costume Designers Guild (Cdg) has announced their nominees in three motion picture categories and the only film among my current predictions in the category not included is Sonia Grande for Midnight in Paris. Looking over the last couple years of nominations from the Cdg it looks as if the last three years have always delivered one film that ended up nominated for an Oscar that was not nominated by the Cdg. This weekend, the Official Twilight Convention had a stop in Los Angeles, California, and one of the features of the show was a set of official costumes from the set of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
