Her father, Karl, is a vascular surgeon. Her mother, Jane (yes, same first name shown for mother & daughter), is a retired teacher. She has a younger sister, Hannah, who is studying law at Brigham Young University and a younger brother, David, who died in 1985 from a brain tumor at the age of 11.

Graduated from Brigham Young University in 1990 with a degree in journalism. A noted violinist, she attended the university on a music scholarship. In 2002, her alma mater honored her as one of its most distinguished alumni at a gala homecoming weekend.

A boot fanatic, she owns more than 20 pairs and admits, "I'm addicted to them."

She's an adventure seeker, who each year goes on "girls only" trips in search of such thrills as mountain biking, white-water rafting or skydiving.

Her mother is a violinist with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra

Children: Ella (b. 2004) and William (b. 2006).

She left CBS at the end of 2003, turning down a four-year contract extension, in order to move to Boston with her new husband and start a family.
