Steve Allie Collura, an actor on the NBC-TV show "The Doctors" was recruited by the NYPD in the late 1960's to work as a Narcotics and Organized Crime Undercover Detective. Steve set an all time record in the NYPD for narcotic undercover buys, solving some of the biggest cases in the history of the force and acting as important link in the FBI / NYPD Federal Task Force [911]. He became the youngest "Gold Shield" Detective in the history of the NYPD. While closing a major narcotics deal believed to be 220 pounds
of heroin worth about $70 million, more than double the famous French Connection case, he was shot in the head. He left the force a decorated detective and focused on his acting. Steve co-wrote a true crime biography about his double life. "Collura: Actor With A Gun" with the famous celebrity writer Bill J, Davidson. It was published by Simon and Schuster in hard cover and paperback in 1977 and sold around the world. The CBS television movie , "Between Love and Honor" about his double life was released in 1995 with actor Grant Show playing the lead and Steve as one of the producers.
