Exclusive: The last 30 years of reality television is to be the subject of a documentary series for Quibi. How’s that for meta?
The short-form platform, launched by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, is developing Get Real from Queer Eye producer Scout Productions and Brian Graden Media, the company behind YouTube’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt-fronted Create Together.
The doc series will highlight the good, the bad, the ugly, and the infamous across the 30-year history of reality television.
Get Real will explore the many ways reality television has impacted our real life, and vice versa, while hearing from culture critics, the producers, and the participants who brought it to the screen in the first place.
Graden knows a thing or two about reality television, having worked at MTV during the days of The Osbournes, Punk’d and Jersey Shore.

Over the last couple of years, executive producers Jennifer Lane and Michael Williams have had their hands full. Working on two new seasons of Queer Eye, as well as a four-episode international season, Queer Eye: We’re in Japan!, the pair have always had an eye toward exciting locations and people with fresh perspectives that the show can celebrate.
Created by David Collins of Scout Productions, the Emmy-winning pop culture phenomenon centers on The Fab Five, a group of “make better” experts that travels from city to city, to shed a light on heroes within various communities, and help them improve upon their already extraordinary lives, by offering insights on grooming, design, culture and lifestyle, fashion, food and wine.
Filming in Kansas City, Missouri and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania between Seasons 3 and 5, with an Austin, Texas-based sixth season on the way, Lane and Williams have had their own mission with Queer Eye, not unlike the Fab Five,...

With voguing competition series Legendary, David Collins aimed to evolve the brand he’d created over the years with acclaimed reality series like Queer Eye, providing “transformation through information, told with comedy that has heart.”
Debuting on HBO Max in May—as one of the centerpiece shows to launch the streaming service—Legendary takes a deep dive into the world of ball culture, spotlighting various voguing teams, as they compete in fashion and dance challenges, with a $100,000 prize on the line.
Over the years, with Queer Eye, three-time Emmy winner Collins has enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQ community. And with Legendary, the EP’s goal was to place “this beautiful, bright spotlight” on a community that is even more marganizaled.
For Collins, the inspiration behind the series came after he was invited to a ball in West Hollywood. “Renata [Lombardo] and Shant [Tutunjian] are executive producers on the show, and...

When HBO Max launched on May 27, the television world was introduced to a competition series unlike any seen before on screen. Inspired by the culture of ballroom, “Legendary” follows eight houses as they vogue their way through nine balls to win a cash prize of $100,000. And while it may look like a dance competition show on the surface, under all the glitz and glam is a series that takes viewers through the history of the dance art form and its continued importance to the LGBTQ+ community.

Who doesn't need some happy TV right now? Netflix's Say I Do might be just the show you're looking for. The title pretty much gives it away: it's a wedding and romance reality show, but it looks like it will be refreshingly brighter and lighter than some of the other reality fare that's been filling our screens in recent months.
The premise of the show is a little different from most of the "dating and romance" reality shows that have popped up everywhere lately. Instead of following couples who haven't fallen in love yet, Say I Do joins couples long after that. Every couple on the show has already planned to get married, but for some reason, they haven't been able to yet. Each groom gets to work with three experts to plan a perfect proposal, then put together the couple's dream wedding. Along the way, the couple gets...

Just a few years ago streaming services didn’t even produce reality series, but this year Netflix landed five Emmy nominations in four reality/competition categories and sparked buzz (and viewer joy) that may encourage linear networks to take more chances in the increasingly crowded reality space.
“With the amount of shows we’ve rolled out collectively, it felt inevitable that with many more programs to offer, the voters would embrace some of the new programs,” says Netflix vice president of nonfiction series and comedy specials Brandon Riegg. He notes the streamer leans tonally into more positive, aspirational and escapist reality programming. “A lot of what we’ve talked about is there’s so much great content out there, we do need to differentiate ourselves. I think having that mentality allows for these projects to bubble up that might feel unconventional but it fits within the spectrum of what we’re trying to program to.

The cast and crew of “Queer Eye” snapped up four Emmy nods, the first since the reboot hit Netflix in February, which includes Outstanding Structured Reality Program, Outstanding Casting for a Structured Reality Program, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured or Competition Reality Program and Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program.
During the announcements, the “Queer Eye” team was huddled around a TV listening to the nominations, and when their show is announced, the room erupts.

In an age of reboots, remakes, and revivals, reality television staple Queer Eye has made one of the more notable comebacks, becoming a fixture at Netflix as their unscripted space began to grow.
A ‘make-better’ show, as creator David Collins calls it, Queer Eye follows the Fab Five—five gay men, experts in five lifestyle disciplines—as they revamp the lives and living spaces of various subjects. Retaining the essence that made Queer Eye a smash hit at Bravo, all the way back in 2003, Collins’ revival has also evolved to reflect life in a new era.
It would be an understatement to say that America has changed significantly in the 15 years since Queer Eye’s Bravo launch. In 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to recognize same-sex marriage; and now, in 2018, gay marriage is recognized nationwide.
Of course, fundamental social problems remain—homophobia and bigotry among them. But what Queer Eye spotlights is quite the opposite,...

Netflix has announced the cast of its reboot of Bravo’s 2003 hit series, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” featuring five new stand-out personalities. The group will serve as a modernized Fab 5, finding new faces to revitalize the show with a political agenda (and current food trends, of course).
Bobby Berk will lead in all things design, Karamo Brown will serve as culture expert, Antoni Porowski, former Fab 5-member Ted Allen’s personal chef, will handle everything food and wine, Tan France will be the show’s fashion guru, and stylist/“Gay of Thrones” host Jonathan Van Ness is, of course, there to share his knowledge on personal grooming. (Van Ness actually shot the series last summer, while “Gay of Thrones” was also in production.)

Five years ago this weekend Tim Burton’s updating of Dark Shadows, the gothic/horror-themed soap opera which ran from 1966 to 1971 on ABC and was a seminal influence on a generation of budding horror fans (including Burton), was released on American movie screens, one weekend after Marvel’s The Avengers was still dictating the imaginations (and the wallets) of moviegoers everywhere. Given Burton’s track record with horror comedies (Beetlejuice being the primary example) and collaborations with Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands), a surprisingly low number of ticket-buyers seemed ultimately to care—the movie, which cost $150 million to make, and undoubtedly a hefty chunk of change more than that to market, would earn back only slightly more than half of that in the United States, though its final take globally came in at around $235 million. There were a few takers among critics, notably...

Do you remember the crazy UFO sightings in Phoenix, Arizona back in 1997? It was a huge deal, as it's the largest UFO sighting in North America. It became known as the Phoenix Incident, and now there's a movie being released that's based on this unexplained event called The Phoenix Incident. We have a trailer for the film for you to watch below, along with five motion posters.
I've always been fascinated with the history of UFOs and those lights hovering over Phoenix were pretty damn interesting. I have no idea if UFOs are real or not, but the stories, videos, pictures, and interviews sure make for some interesting subject matter. Here's the synopsis for the upcoming film:
Blurring the line between fiction and reality, the fact based, sci-fi thriller revolves around a military conspiracy and the controversial missing person’s case surrounding the infamous 1997 event. With the support of the victims’ families,...

I was pretty upset with Dan Stevens for leaving "Downton Abbey" in 2012. He was never a standout (reflected in the Emmys nominating eight of his co-stars), but his character was so integral that it was impossible for him to depart organically. His final episode was aggravating (see Daily Mail review), and the season that followed was not as strong as the ones before it. Leaving the show that had given him international recognition in the middle of its run just seemed selfish. I watched "The Guest" recently. He made the right choice. -Break- New: Experts' Oscars predictions in 24 categories Thirty pounds leaner, perfectly tanned instead of pasty and now sporting movie-star stubble, Stevens is unrecognizable in his role as David Collins, a soldier and the eponymous guest. He even sounds different with a flawless American accent. The film does not just take advantage of Stevens’ new muscular physique—it constructs an enti.

The Guest is a thriller that knows exactly what it wants to be. Playful, kinetic and riotously entertaining, it’s a slick throwback to the sexy, noirish actioners of generations past, a winking tribute to the films of John Carpenter and other ’80s horror directors, as soaked in blood as it is stylishly lit in colorful neon. Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, who so fruitfully toyed with the home invasion horror subgenre in You’re Next, have even more success tackling the action-thriller, emerging with an absolute blast of a film that could be held up as a new classic of the genre in a few years from now.
The kind of movie we’re in for is made clear from the get-go, as the title appears in bold, neon letters. We open on a man running down a country road, his movement brisk and almost robotic. There...

Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett are the duo responsible for last year’s indie horror hit “You’re Next.” While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s a super fun home invasion yarn, and full of solid scares and action (it’s hard to ever go completely wrong whenever you have dudes in creepy animal masks breaking into houses and terrorizing folks). When their latest collaboration, “The Guest,” starts out, you think you’re in for a similar ride. But that’s not how it all goes down, and what they’ve crafted here is a dark, entertaining thriller that’s familiar but still inventive in all the right places. The first act is a solid, stranger comes to town narrative. The Peterson family—father Spencer (Leland Orser), mother Laura (Sheila Kelley), son Luke (Brendan Meyer), and daughter Anna (Maika Monroe)—recently lost their oldest son Caleb,...

After having a great deal of twisted fun with the horror genre in You’re Next, writer Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard team up once again for the psychological thriller, The Guest. An homage to the thrillers of the 1980s, the film stars Dan Stevens as David Collins, a recently discharged soldier who takes it upon himself to visit the family of Caleb, one of his fellow soldiers who was killed in combat.
Caleb’s family is still grieving his loss, but when David shows up, he helps to assuage their pain and sadness while becoming the best houseguest anyone could hope to have. Caleb’s siblings, Anna and Luke, are initially hesitant about letting David stay, but he eventually wins them over. However, when a series of strange events start happening around town, it slowly becomes apparent that David may not be the man he claims he is.

London, July 22: Singer Madonna is reportedly devastated after death of her close pal David Collins.
The singer was seen landing at the Heathrow airport dressed entirely in black and will go to Ireland, where the funeral will take place.
Collins was an interior designer and lost his battle to skin cancer after just three weeks of it getting diagnosed. He died July 17.

The Senate VFX was awarded a total of 186 shots for Dark Shadows, which covered a broad range of work on some major sequences including the Collinwood Manor Fire, Angel Bay Cannery Seq, Construction Site Attack and a large selection of Collinwood manor exterior shots. The Senate was tasked with completing full CG environments, set extensions, green screen comps and ghost FX work, which, coupled with meeting the demands of a visionary director, made Dark Shadows a challenging yet hugely rewarding project to be part of. Dark Shadows was directed by Tim Burton and stars: Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters, Jackie Earle Haley as Willie Loomis, Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Jonny Lee Miller as Roger Collins, Chloe Grace Moretz as Carolyn Stoddard, Gulliver McGrath as David Collins, and Christopher Lee as Silas Clarney.

He later found fame starring as a teenage alien (who was part of a very human-looking family) in "3rd Rock From the Sun."
