A new Star Wars series is always an event, and with Skeleton Crew, Disney+ have taken a page out of Amblin’s book, mixed it with a smidge of Stranger Things, and come up with something wonderful.
The series Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon and Nick Frost.
Episodes of the original live-action series are directed by Jon Watts, David Lowery, the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard and Lee Isaac Chung. The executive producers are Christopher Ford, Jon Watts, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson.
Scott Davis sat down with the cast and creators to chart the journey from spark of inspiration (the pitch to Jon Favreau was ‘The Goonies in space’) to the screen. We test their Star Wars knowledge, talk about trepidation when entering the Star Wars universe, and much more.

The wait is finally over—Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been released! Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the story follows a group of kids who might have special powers, and their adventure to find their way home after getting lost following a mysterious event.
The show has a similar vibe to classic children’s movies like The Goonies, but it’s enjoyable for both kids and adults. Like The Mandalorian, the series also features an adult (played by Jude Law) looking after younger characters, making it relatable to fans of that show.
The cast includes Jude Law, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, and Jaleel White.
After two new episodes, the first reactions to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are very positive. The show currently has a strong 93% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 36 reviews, and 87% from audiences.

At times, the latest Disney+ streaming series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, feels like a grand family adventure. The story is fun, the special effects are spectacular, and the series doesn’t take itself too seriously. However, the show feels so heavily invested in marketing toward children that it doesn’t seem like it belongs in the world of The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett.
However, the pilot is engaging, with a wonderful opening sequence that is an adolescent homage to the original film’s opening. You will also notice a lack of star power in the first episode. Stars Jude Law and Kerry Condon are noticeably absent from their much-publicized roles. Still, the solid first chapter paves the way for a family-friendly series from start to finish.

Spoilers for "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" follow.
Even though the "Star Wars" universe of series, films, and the like take place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, they share plenty of familiar elements with struggles in the human world of Earth. There's romances aplenty and heartbreak, as well as strife as people of different classes attempt to realize their dreams. Oh, and there's also parental problems, primarily (but not entirely) comprised of daddy issues. Luke Skywalker didn't know his own mother, who died in childbirth, and he only realized that his father Anakin was actually the terrifying villain (who eventually breaks good) Darth Vader right after Vader chopped off his hand. And it's not just limited to the original trilogy, either; leaving aside the fact that Luke's mom Amidala dies in childbirth, Anakin himself only has a mother and seems to have been the product of...

Review: Set after the events of Return of the Jedi in the same period as The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been promoted as a series in the tradition of Amblin projects like The Goonies, Gremlins, and Back to the Future. "Star Wars" is for kids. Wait, scratch that. "Star Wars" has always been for kids. Fans of a certain age and temperament might want to take that statement as an insult (or even an attack) on their favorite movies, but it's a fact. Don't just take my word for it; no less an authority than the Maker himself, George Lucas, has said as much on numerous occasions over the years. Of course, that's not to say the property has always been the most successful in this regard (who among us could forget the wonder and joy of watching an entire prequel film about taxation and trade disputes?), or that it can't appeal to those of all ages anyway. Still, at their heart, the adventures of Luke Skywalker and the timeless tale of a Rebellion overthrowing an Empire were conceived as broadly and simplistically as possible -- not to cater to...

If Disney+’s new drama Star Wars: Skeleton Crew had debuted when I was eight or nine, it would have abruptly shoved Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard aside to become Young Daniel’s favorite TV show.
While the original Star Wars saga, a three-and-only-three-movie series I was hardly alone in being obsessed with, was designed to be welcoming to kids, it was simultaneously a world that was generally without children. Instead, we focused on alien creatures or robots who either resembled or acted like children — as well as Luke Skywalker, whose arc took him from callow youth to mature Jedi.
At the same time, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment at the forefront, we were treated to a string of junior quest narratives of varying qualities — movies that captured one of the last cultural moments in which kids were allowed to wander off in the morning, carry out...

In Steven Spielberg’s spectacular 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” there is a sweet little scene where a couple of bike-riding youths wander through their eerily sweeping suburban streets on Halloween. As they attempt to hide the titular extraterrestrial visitor by disguising him as an adorable ghost, they humorously encounter a kid dressed up as Yoda who E.T. mistakes as an alien friend and toddles over to. It’s a fun throwaway scene which, while more than a bit cheeky considering the longtime friendship between Spielberg and Star Wars creator George Lucas, brought the creations of the duo together for a brief moment in a manner that now feels downright quaint. This is because “Skeleton Crew,” the newest entry in the evergrowing Star Wars universe, plays like it is taking the self-referential ethos of this scene and stretching it into an entire show. Oh, and they even brought the suburbs...

Early in the new Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, we meet our young hero, Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers). He is in a bedroom that looks an awful lot like one you might have found in any suburban house here on Earth in the Eighties, and he’s playing with a pair of dolls that are roughly the size and design of the action figures that Kenner released around the original Star Wars film trilogy. Wim and his best friend Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) have mock lightsaber battles while waiting for the bus to school.

“Star Wars” has always been, on some level, for children. That’s neither condescension nor criticism: George Lucas created a swashbuckling fairy tale set in space, and its mantle has been taken up by successive generations of filmmakers who encountered it at a formative age. But, with the exception of “The Phantom Menace,” “Star Wars” stories have rarely been about children. That’s the value proposition of “Skeleton Crew,” the latest TV series from a franchise that now largely exists on the small screen. In a way, it’s also the most true to the saga’s DNA — or at least a particular strain of it.
Though “Star Wars” hasn’t delivered a blockbuster to the multiplex since 2019, Lucasfilm has maintained a steady drip of releases on Disney+. These projects have been variable in quality, from “Andor” on the high end to “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on the low, but they’ve...

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew were screened in the UK this weekend, and that means we have the first reactions from fans, influencers, and at least a couple of critics.

That means critics from the likes of The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Rolling Stone, and other respected outlets won't be able to share their verdicts on social media or in reviews until people are already watching the show.
The buzz surrounding Skeleton Crew is relatively minimal, something that likely wasn't helped by the mixed response to The Acolyte earlier this year. Then, there's the fact that,...

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a new series coming to Disney+.
The series followed four kids as they discover a crashed ship in the woods of their utopian homeworld. The children are Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) a dreamer who wants adventures unlike his best friend Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) as well as the rebellious Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and her bestie Kb (Kyriana Kratter). When the ship takes off with them inside, they must traverse a dangerous galaxy to get back home. Thankfully they are helped by a Force user named Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) and the ship’s grumpy first mate droid Sm-33 (Nick Forst).
The kids catch the eye of pirates including captain Brutus (Fred Tatasciore), Gunter (Jaleel White), and The Mandalorian’s Vane (Marti Matulis) who hunt them. Things aren’t peaceful back on their world either as Fern’s mom Fara (Kerry Condon) is aware that something is wrong,...

A galaxy far, far away is getting a little bit bigger as a new "Star Wars" show is upon us. Jon Watts, the man behind Tom Holland's "Spider-Man" trilogy, is spearheading "Skeleton Crew," a brand new series on Disney+. Following in the footsteps of shows like "The Mandalorian" and "Andor" before it, the series is bringing the spectacle of live-action "Star Wars" to the small screen. At the same time, the franchise is no longer releasing entries chronologically. In fact, during the Disney era, it's been a little all over the place. So, when does "Skeleton Crew" take place, exactly?
Broadly speaking, "Skeleton Crew" takes place during the New Republic era on the overall "Star Wars" timeline. This is the era after the events of "Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi," in which the Galactic Empire has been defeated and the Rebellion has tried to help...

As Marvel Studios continues to build towards the culmination of the Multiverse Saga, excitement is at an all-time high for the stories that are about to be told. That has a lot to do with the fact that, after a series of ups and downs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally back on track with success stories like Deadpool and Wolverine and Disney Plus' Agatha All Along. The announcement that the next Avengers movie would be bringing back MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom was just the icing on the cake.
With the saga once again a must-see event, there are a number of titles that the studio has clearly been building towards for some time now. The potential for some of these titles was always there, but it's only since the Multiverse Saga began that we have seen them begin to come to fruition. And one of those is that long-awaited,...

This morning, I settled into writing a speculative piece about the upcoming series Skeleton Crew. After the recent trailer, the showrunners Jon Watts and Chris Ford were interviewed by StarWars.com to discuss the series in more detail. One part stood out to me, so I took some time to muse about it.
In the original article, as captured here by Caitlin from Skytalkers podcast, Ford discusses the homeworld of the kid protagonists. He says, "It's the story of kids who happen to live on what they think of as a boring planet-- it seems like the suburbs, and nothing ever happens. And one day they find an old spaceship and it blasts them off, out into the galaxy. They realize that no one's ever heard of their home planet."
wait this is so interesting...

And there will probably be many more Skeleton Crew-related Funko Pop figures released as the show progresses, which means that you should start counting your pennies if you plan to purchase them all.

Disney+ has announced details of its new Star Wars series “Skeleton Crew,” set to premiere in December. The series tells the story of four young protagonists who discover an old spaceship buried on their planet. They soon find themselves joining a legendary treasure hunt across the galaxy.
Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, “Skeleton Crew” follows the characters Wim, Fern, Kb, and Neel. Acclaimed actor Jude Law plays Jod Na Nawood, a Force user who may have connections to the Jedi Order. The series is set during the New Republic era alongside other popular shows like “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka.”
Inspired by classic adventure films from Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, the show centers around an epic hunt for pirate treasure. Evidence points to a link with the infamous Xim the Despot, a legendary pirate from Star Wars history. Xim first appeared in the novel “Han Solo and the Lost Legacy.

Exclusive: Focus Features has snapped up U.S. rights to Working Title and Studiocanal’s WWII drama-thriller Pressure, about the build-up to the historic Normandy Landings.
The multi-million dollar deal includes a strong theatrical commitment, we understand, with Studiocanal continuing sales this week at the AFM. The European studio will handle the movie’s release in its territories.
The deal was closed by Anne Cherel and Sophie Leuthreau for Studiocanal with Howard Meyers and Marin Babb for Focus Features, which previously had big box office and awards success with Working Title’s WWII film Darkest Hour.
Cameras are still rolling in the UK on Pressure, which stars Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina and Damian Lewis.
