Amy Schumer has become quite the comedienne, taking the stage, television, and now film by storm. Trainwreck, her starring vehicle for director Judd Apatow, was my first sustained exposure to her and thought the fresh eyes could glean what the fuss is all about. Still trying to figure it out.
The story is about a woman who is professional star and a personal wreck who meets and falls for a guy, only to screw it up at much the same time she screws up her relationship with her sister, and loses her job. That it is about a woman and not a man has garnered a lot of buzz but the overall story is tired and predictable.
Apatow’s previous films have offered up fresh takes on old themes along with sharply delineated characters that avoid the clichés and bring with them a tremendous amount of heart. In The 40-Year-Old Virgin,...

As one of the more refreshing comedies of 2015, it’s with gleeful excitement that we welcome the arrival of Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck on Blu-ray and DVD later this week, and to commemorate the occasion, We Got This Covered has a themed prize pack to giveaway to one lucky reader.
Channeling the free-roaming spirit of Amy Schumer’s uproarious lead in the dramedy, the bundle contains all manner of indulgences, along with a copy of the film’s combo pack (Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD) to boot. In the film, Schumer stars as a rational magazine writer who enjoys nothing more than revelling in her unbridled freedom. But upon agreeing to head up a sports feature on Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), our lead character soon finds that, despite her father’s best intentions, monogamy may be realistic after all.

Romantic comedies that are both genuinely funny and genuinely romantic are a rare, almost extinct breed, but the genre gets an empowering breath of fresh air in Judd Apatow's latest outing Trainwreck. Featuring culture's flavour of the month Amy Schumer in a sharp and engaging lead performance, it's a heartfelt, consistently funny film that deftly sidesteps its potential cliches at every turn.
Schumer is Amy, a work-hard-play-hard party girl whose Mo could have been taken from a hundred male protagonists we've seen in comedies before: she's a success at work, an irresponsible slacker at home, and prefers casual sex to serious dating. Her job at Manhattan men's mag S'nuff - headed up by Tilda Swinton's gloriously amoral editor Dianna - leads her to an interview with straight-laced...

Judd Apatow is the maestro of the dick joke, the current reigning king of gross-out humor, and the guy who brought you all those hey-bro-let’s-get-drunk-and-get-laid movies. But Apatow’s secret weapon, and the likely reason for his broad appeal, is that he’s admittedly a family-values guy at heart. From The 40-Year-Old Virgin to This Is 40, the binge drinking and drug use and sexcapades in Apatow films always wind up leading to monogamy, long-term commitment, and reinforcement of American social norms.
So it makes for an interesting collision of creative talents – and personal values – when the similarly raunchy but more deeply subversive comic Amy Schumer teams up with Apatow in Trainwreck. Schumer writes and stars in the film, which focuses on a thirty-something journalist and dedicated wild child also named Amy. Amy drinks hard, parties harder, and hops constantly from one new sexual encounter to another, following the...

Before there was "Inside Amy Schumer" on Comedy Central and before Amy Schumer was covering every magazine, hosting the MTV Movie Awards and becoming a household name, I was listening to her comedy in my Spotify rotation. I can't remember the first time I heard her comedy, but listening to bits here and there, her edgy, no holds barred style had my howling. However, when I tried to listen to one of her comedy albums in its entirety I realized there can be too much Amy Schumer at once. This was my chief concern walking into Trainwreck, which Schumer wrote before teaming with director Judd Apatow to polish up the script and deliver the final product we now see on screen. Fortunately, there's just the right amount of Amy Schumer, but there is too much movie for the small story Trainwreck sets out to tell. Like virtually all of Apatow's films,...

Director Judd Apatow, Amy Schumer, Bill Hader discuss NBA superstar Le Bron James’ crossover role in a new featurette from Trainwreck.
The new comedy starring Schumer, Hader and James alongside Brie Larson, John Cena, Vanessa Bayer, Mike Birbiglia, Ezra Miller, Dave Attell and Tilda Swinton opens in theaters this Friday.
Trainwreck, written by and starring Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer) is the story of a woman who lives her life without apologies, even when maybe she should apologize.
Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut.

The tagline for Trainwreck claims “We all know one,” but Amy Schumer’s boisterous leading debut succeeds not because we see our “trainwreck” friends in her performance. Whether you’ll admit it or not, we instead see ourselves in the shoes of Amy, because we’ve All experienced that period where no f#*ks are to be given. You’re damn right to assume “we all know one” – we all own mirrors. But it’s Ok to be a trainwreck, and that’s the journey that this floozy-on-steriods is here to teach us.
I don’t know about you, but being a strapping young lad living in New York City has taught me a thing or two about the current dating landscape, and a lot of Schumer’s on-screen defense mechanisms/paranoias are commonplace in today’s day and age. No contemporary filmmaker has chronicled the messy human experience with the eye and ear of a comedic cultural anthropologist like Judd Apatow. Hits as varied as those he’s directed, like Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and those he’s produced, like Superbad and Bridesmaids, are all unified by their honest, unflinching, comic look at how complicated it is to grow up in the modern world.
Apatow has also built a history of helping break distinctive new comedy voices into the mainstream, from Seth Rogen to Lena Dunham among many others. Now, in his fifth feature film as a director, Apatow again brings a portrait of an unforgettable character, and a portrayal by a breakout new comedy star, together in Trainwreck, written by and starring Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer) as a woman who lives her life without apologies, even when maybe she should apologize.

Monogamy is not realistic. It’s an all-too-pessimistic outlook that has been drilled into Amy Schumer’s leading lady for as long as she can remember, and one that will underpin Judd Apatow’s upcoming rom-com, Trainwreck.
As a career-driven woman living in The Big Apple, Schumer’s Amy remains disinterested – if aloof – to any romantic commitment for fear it would tie her down and ruin her happiness. However, after agreeing to spearhead a feature on a delightfully charming sports doctor (Bill Hader), our protagonist soon finds that her once-ironclad perspective isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, even if she refuses to admit it at first.
Though it won’t win any awards for breaking new ground in the genre, the fact that Apatow has assembled a stellar cast around the leading pair, including the likes of Brie Larson, John Cena, Tilda Swinton,...

Normally, I'm not one to brag, but I would like to say right off the bat, I think I did pretty well with my must-see list last month. Of my five official picks -- Spy, Jurassic World, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Dope and Inside Out -- the closest I got to suggesting you see a movie people generally didn't like was Jurassic World, which has broken all sorts of box office records and sits at a "fresh" 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not that box office results or Rotten Tomatoes are the ultimate barometers of quality, but I have to base this off something, rightc Personally I didn't much care for the new Jurassic film aside from a few scenes of enormous spectacle, but others found plenty to like in it. I also ended up seeing Dope twice -- that one might be my favorite movie so far this...

Amy Schumer struggles with the concept of monogamy in the latest trailer for her new film Trainwreck.
After being told by her father at a young age that monogamy isn't possible, Amy revels in a love life without commitment before meeting Dr Aaron Conners (Bill Hader) - but are they right for each other?
Schumer has also written the script for the film, which is directed by This Is 40 and Knocked Up's Judd Apatow.
The actress has been touring the Us with her co-stars in the 'Trainwreck Comedy Tour'.
She will also open for Madonna on the 'Rebel Hearts Tour' in New York in September.
Trainwreck opens on July 17 in the Us and August 28 in the UK.

Three seasons of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer have shown us that Amy Schumer is no one-hit-wonder. With her hilarious sketches and irrepressibly edgy style of humor, she’s cemented her grip on the small screen – and now, this summer, she’ll bring her shtick to theaters with the hilarious-looking Trainwreck.
A new trailer for the Judd Apatow-directed comedy has hit the web today and it’s as gut-bustingly funny as you’d expect. Schumer is a rare comedian in that she’s demonstrably fearless in her tackling of modern romance, sexuality, body image, societal double standards and systematically imposed misogyny. Unafraid to take on big targets (and simultaneously skewer herself), she has proven herself to be one of the most unrepentantly honest voices in comedy today. From the looks of Trainwreck, for which Schumer also wrote the script, it doesn’t appear that a shred of that...

Judd Apatow, whether writing, directing, or both, is someone that, at the very least, lets you know what you’re getting yourself into. If you like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Knocked Up, you probably know where you are when This Is 40 hits.
That may not be as straightforward once Trainwreck opens, Apatow’s next directing effort, which is written by, and stars, Amy Schumer.
The comedienne, and creator/star of Inside Amy Schumer is one of the funniest people working today, and those who are familiar with her work will know that this is the sort of story she ought to be able to knock out of the park… sort of.
Of course, the film may cause some people difficulty, when it comes to figuring out their expectations, because I love Amy Schumer, but I hate pretty much everything Judd Apatow has had any connection to.

Amy Schumer headlines Judd Apatow's new comedy, Trainwreck. Here's the first trailer...
You have to give it to Judd Apatow. His last film as director, This Is Forty, gave movie critics the world over the chance to make a gag out of it. Statistically, approximately 23% of reviews of that film contained the phrase "this is forty minutes too long".
So what does he call his next film? Trainwreck. It's like he's inviting people to help themselves there. Maybe he'll call his next film 'Two Stars'?
It looks quite good this, though. Amy Schumer headlines this one, alongside Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton, Colin Quinn and Vanessa Bayer.
The synopsis for the film gives an outline as to what to expect:
"Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic.

Judd Apatow pretty much changed the face of comedy when he came onto the scene with The 40 Year Old Virgin; showing everyone that you can mix raunchy humour with sweetness. Since then he’s had his hands in just about every major comedy film of the past decade, while still finding the time to direct his own films.
His newest film, Trainwreck, heads back into romantic comedy territory and looks like it could be quite funny. Amy Schumer takes on her first starring role in the film, and I can only imagine it will lead to more. 2015 is going to be her year.

Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rascal of a dad (Colin Quinn) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo—enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling,...

Let's return to the age of green screens and full-motion video as the follow-up to 1998's "Overseer," "Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect," gets a lengthy new trailer.
The crowdfunded sequel is from developer Big Finish Games, founded by Chris Jones and Aaron Conners, the minds behind the 90's Fmv "Tex Murphy" adventure games "Under a Killing Moon" and "The Pandora Directive." They're back with a sequel which sees the hard-boiled detective back and missing a chunk of his memories after getting capped at the conclusion of 1998's "Overseer."
The game's successful Kickstarter campaign saw "Tesla Effect" rake in $600,000, well above its $450,000 goal. From the looks of it, the production costs have gone into creating the green screen environments of post World War III San Francisco, where the "Tex Murphy" games are set.
Although originally set for a December 2012 release, the new trailer is teasing a Q1 2014 launch date. Atlus will be...

Between Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango), Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight), Al Lowe (Leisure Suit Larry), all having successfully funded Kickstarter campaigns for upcoming adventure games, the genre might appear pretty well represented. However, there's one thing we haven't yet seen come out of this resurgence; Full Motion Video games.
This is likely because they generally weren't very good and had the sort of production values one associates with Mystery Science Theatre fodder, but Chris' Jones and Aaron Conners' Tex Murphy series was wry enough to have a sense of humor about its unholy union of acting in front of a green screen with a game.
Unfortunately, the series ended with a cliffhanger in 1998's Tex Murphy: Overseer, but Jones and Conners would like to remedy that with "Project Fedora," a new Tex Murphy adventure funded via Kickstarter. Jones will be reprising his role as the eccentric private eye,...
