The Toronto International Film Festival has selected 55 movies for its Centrepiece programme of the 50th fest, movies which are a “global showcase of compelling cinema from around the world” per this Am’s release. TIFF, presented by Rogers, runs from Sept. 4-14.

Titles from close to 50 countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chad, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Germany, Iraq, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand are reflected in the curation.

Those filmmakers with works in this part of the lineup, and that also includes North American premieres, are Hubert Davis, Mathieu Denis, Hasan Hadi, Chie Hayakawa, Anders Thomas Jensen, Jan Komasa, Richard Linklater, Sergei Loznitsa, Pietro Marcello, Christian Petzold, Potsy Poncirol and Álvaro Olmos Torrico.

Netflix's The Sandman is back, and it's as good as ever. Despite being a largely condensed second season—wrapping up the entire saga in just 11 episodes—the team has managed to tell some of the comic's most popular stories.

There are many new characters introduced this time around, from Norse Gods to those of Faerie to the remaining entities that make up the Endless family. For the latter, we've been introduced to Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles) and Destruction (Barry Sloane).

In the second half of Volume 1, Delirum seeks out Dream (Tom Sturridge) and convinces him to join her on a quest to find Destruction. Delirium is eccentric, surreal, and inherently chaotic. She's the youngest of the Endless siblings, and one of the most mysterious. Many years ago, she used to be Delight, but a change made her into Delirium. This change is one of the comic's biggest mysteries.

Netflix has released the opening scene of The Sandman Season 2, Vol. 2, which begins with Morpheus calling on Destiny to ask his advice on how to deal with The Fur... (sorry ladies), The Kindly Ones, who are now obligated to seek vengeance against the Dream Lord for ending the life of his son, Orpheus, in the Vol. 1 finale.

Destiny already urged his brother to abandon his quest to find Destruction, knowing full well where Dream's actions would ultimately lead.

They brought the ultragothy Dream (Tom Sturridge) and a few of his ‘Endless’ siblings to vivid and convincing life, in a season which literally took us to Hell and back, but was rooted firmly in the ‘Waking World’ of Planet Earth. However, this second – and notably “final” – season has far trickier source narratives to negotiate. It pulls us further away from the reassurance of the everyday and deeper into the realms of gods, demons and anthropomorphic manifestations of human experience, as the rest of Dream’s family join the party.

After spending decades in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book series The Sandman actually made it into production and was released as a Netflix series in August of 2022. (Read our review Here.) Now, season 2, which also happens to be the final season, is making its way out into the world, separated into two “volumes,” plus a bonus episode. The first “volume” was released on July 3rd (our review of those episodes is Here), with the second half of the season scheduled for release later in the month – and Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer to give a preview of the next batch of episodes! One of the most immersive and brilliantly written fantasy shows of recent times has to be Netflix’s The Sandman and while it is coming to an end with its second season because of some behind-the-scenes controversies, fans are still looking forward to the upcoming batch of episodes. Based on the DC comic book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, the Netflix series was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg.

The Sandman 2 continues the story of Lord Morpheus, aka Dream, as his whole kingdom is threatened because of his past actions, forcing him to face and reevaluate his previous decisions and seek absolution for the wrong ones.

The Sandman season 2, Vol. 1 is now streaming on Netflix, and critics have been sharing their verdicts on the first six episodes of what will be our final visit to The Dreaming since the embargo lifted earlier today.

After initially generating a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score when the first few reviews hit, Vol. 1 has now dropped to 75% based on 16 write-ups. That score is likely to fluctuate, but the consensus seems to be that this adaptation of the later storylines from Neil Gaiman's seminal saga doesn't quite match up to the first season.

Mileage is almost certain to vary depending on whether you're a fan of the source material, which some of the more negative reviews pretty much use as the basis of their criticism.

Despite tirelessly waiting for nearly three years for the 2nd season of The Sandman, fans’ excitement was dashed away by Neil Gaiman with the cliffhanger ending. However, that did not stop fans from binge-watching the fantasy thriller featuring Dream, his Endless Siblings, and his son, Orpheus.

Volume I of Season 2 was tumultuous, where Morpheus had to make some profoundly emotionally charged choices that left him in tears by the end. The second and final season of The Sandman is set to premiere this coming Thursday, and Netflix has released a first clip featuring a scene from the wedding of Dream's son, Orpheus, and his bride Eurydice.

In the clip, we see members of the Endless family wish their nephew and his new wife well... in their own unique ways. Destiny does not approach the couple, however, as he already knows what fate awaits them.
