It was the end of January 2021. Modern Family’s long-rumored Mitch & Cam spinoff was on the verge of a green light. Instead, it got a pass.
Years later, star Eric Stonestreet calls that decision by ABC “a little hurtful” and believes the offshoot would’ve been a “slam dunk” and, if picked up, still be on the air right now.
Co-written by Modern Family co-creator/executive producer Christopher Lloyd and longtime executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, the proposed spinoff was to chronicle Mitch (Jesse Tylor Ferguson) and Cam (Stonestreet)’s new life with their kids in Missouri.
“Chris Lloyd and a couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said ‘no’. They just said, ‘We don’t want to do it,” Stonestreet said in an interview with Graham Bensinger. “And I think it hurt Jesse and I’s feelings.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted films introduced audiences to the fun and foul-mouthed teddy bear. The unique premise of the film delighted fans as they got to see Ted’s wild and bizarre adventures mixed with the R-rated dialogues. The two films had Mark Wahlberg in the lead and his hilarious banter with Ted left audiences in splits. Despite the films being box office successes, MacFarlane shifted to TV with the IP.

In the great debate of Bear or Man, Peacock chooses Bear! After giving a green light to Seth MacFarlane’s Ted as an event series, the wise-cracking, weed-smoking bear, and undeniably lovable bastard son of Snuggle is bringing more comedy to the streaming network. Peacock is bumping Ted up to an ongoing show with MacFarlane reprising his role as the aforementioned stuffed bear that comes to life.
The renewal packs the bong after the Ted prequel series premiered on Peackock four months ago. The “Ted” prequel series has been renewed for Season 2 at Peacock, Variety has learned.
Originally presented as an event series, the seven-episode first season of “Ted” debuted on the streamer in January. It serves as a prequel to the two “Ted” feature films, which were released in 2012 and 2015.
Per Peacock, the show became its most-watched original title to date and was also the top streaming comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months, according to Nielsen data.
The series takes place in the early 1990s in Framingham, Mass. It follows the lives of Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) and his 16 year old best friend, John (Max Burkholder). Ted’s fame has waned and he is now once again living with John and his family.
The series also stars Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach as John’s parents, Matty and Susan, along with Giorgia Whigham as John’s cousin Blaire.

Seth MacFarlane and Peacock aren’t done with Ted yet.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has ordered a second season of the comedy, a prequel to the two feature films that have the MacFarlane-voiced living teddy bear at their center. Peacock originally billed Ted as an “event series,” but it will now be an ongoing show.
The renewal comes about four months after Ted premiered on Peacock to solid ratings in January. It was the top streaming comedy in the United States for about two months after its debut, and Peacock says the series is its most-watched original to date. It also put up strong showings in other countries, notably on Sky in the U.K., FOX8 and streaming service Binge in Australia and Showcase in Canada.

Peacock has given a second-season pickup to Ted, the prequel TV series to Seth MacFarlane’s Ted film franchise.
The seven-episode initial installment of Ted, released January 11, was billed as an event series. Its overwhelming ratings success, becoming Peacock’s most-watched original series to date and the No. 1 original streaming comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months in the Nielsen rankings, naturally triggered a conversation about a second season.
Despite Ted‘s excellent performance, the renewal decision was not straightforward, I hear, as the comedy’s hybrid live-action/CGI nature makes it expensive to produce, and it also takes a long time to make.
Still, keeping its biggest hit was important to Peacock, and four months after the Season 1 drop, the streamer has ordered a second season.
Set in 1993, Ted comes from writer, director, executive producer and showrunner MacFarlane.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, the prequel series for the filmmaker’s 2012 comedy, has broken a streaming record since its Peacock debut. Knocking the stuffing out of other titles in the streamer’s library, Ted is officially the most-watched original title in Peacock’s history. Seth Macfarlane’s animated series Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad have become as culturally significant as The Simpsons. With edgy humor and non sequitur galore, MacFarlane segued to the big screen with the fantasy comedy Ted starring Mark Wahlberg about a man-child and his teddy bear who has come alive. Full of gross-out humor and equal amounts of heartfelt comedy, Ted was a smash hit and spawned a sequel. Since then, MacFarlane has made A Million Ways To Die In The West and the more serious science fiction series The Orville. Now, MacFarlane is returning to Ted with a Peacock prequel series that blends the sitcom format of his animated shows with that same blend of crass and feel-good comedy that has become his trademark.

Seth MacFarlane and the showrunners are open to a possible Ted season 2, but it depends on audience demand and appetite. Seth MacFarlane’s Ted has made the leap to the small screen, and we’ve learned that the series will be broadcast on Sky Max in February.
Ted was Seth MacFarlane’s feature directorial debut, and it would be fair to say the film made quite an impact.
Released in 2012, it contained all the profane, puckish humour MacFarlane honed in his years showrunning Family Guy. The plot followed Mark Wahlberg as John, an ageing adolescent who spends his time drinking, getting high and pulling pranks with his best friend, the sentient stuffed toy Ted, while neglecting his relationship with Lori, played by Mila Kunis.
The sequel arrived in 2015 sans Kunis, and didn’t quite hit the same mark. But still: it made a good chunk of money, and that opened the door for a third Ted film. Nine years on, though, and there’s no sign of Ted 3. Instead, MacFarlane...

Ted TV series trailer: Seth MacFarlane returns to the 90s for a crude coming-of-age comedy flashback
Peacock‘s original event series, Ted, brings you back to the 1990s when Alice in Chains, Cypress Hill, and Snoop Dogg helped shape a generation of digital natives. Ted hails from Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane, with Max Burkholder playing John Bennett, the role played by Mark Wahlberg in MacFarlane’s 2012 comedy. The Ted TV series trailer finds John and Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) attending a hellscape of judgment, adolescent depression, and taboo exploration, otherwise known as high school.
Here’s the official synopsis for Ted courtesy of Peacock:
In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach), and cousin Blaire...

After the big screen delivered the marijuana and beer-fueled antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his living teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" franchise, the raunchy debauchery of the longtime friends is coming to Peacock in the form of a prequel TV series. Thankfully, since this is streaming, "Ted" can be just as raunchy as the movies. However, because this is a prequel series, there's no Mark Wahlberg screwing around with Ted. Instead, we have a 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder) enduring the trials and tribulations of high school with Ted by his side, and having a living teddy bear as your best friend in school goes about as well as you'd expect for a teenager in the 1990s.
The "Ted" trailer (watch above) just debuted from Peacock, giving us a blend of your average sitcom with the R-rated comedy of a cable series. After riding a wave...

Ever wondered what happened to John and Ted during their younger years?
That's exactly the gist of Peacock's new series that takes place several years before the two big-screen Ted movies.
The official trailer went public today, which takes us back to 1993 when John is struggling to come to terms with the pressures of being a teenager.
As for Ted, he's being his crude self and is not impressed about being sent to school.
As expected, there's pushback for Ted as he tries to get acclimated to school life, with one student even comparing him to a dog.
That isn't nice, but in true Ted fashion, he isn't ready to allow someone to talk down to him in school.
There's plenty of the signature wit from the movies, but there's this concern that the show won't be able to sustain that level of humor over a seven-episode season.

The official trailer for Peacock’s upcoming Ted series has dropped, and it gives viewers a clearer look at how Ted the Bear and his best friend John Bennett try to survive the awkwardness of high school in the 1990s.
Created by Seth MacFarlane, the R-rated series — at least from the trailer — seems to hit all the right nostalgia notes with music from The Proclaimers, lots of big hair, piano key neckties and a brief glimpse of a classic Volkswagen Golf convertible.
The series takes place in 1993, right after Ted’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts, with his best friend John. In the clip, we see Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) and John (Max Burkholder) negotiating school without much success but also trying to get laid and high, all the things audiences have come to expect from the comedy franchise.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted makes the leap to the small screen in January, here’s the teaser trailer for the TV show.
Ted was Seth MacFarlane's feature directorial debut, and heck, did it make an impact.
Released in 2012, it contained all the profane, puckish humour Macfarlane honed in his years showrunning Family Guy. The plot followed Mark Wahlberg as John, an ageing adolescent who spends his time drinking and getting high with the titular Ted, a sentient stuffed toy, while neglecting his relationship with Mila Kunis’ Lori.
The sequel arrived in 2015, and didn’t quite hit the same mark. But still: it make a good chunk of money, and that opened the door for a third Ted movie. Eight years on, though, and there’s no sign of Ted 3. Instead? Well, the idea has taken the television route for now.

Ted is making his comeback in a brand new series on Peacock!
The upcoming show takes place in the nineties, years before the two films, and will feature Seth MacFarlane returning as the voice of the bear.
“Our series is a prequel to the Ted movies. It takes place in the nineties but is based on the timeless truth that being sixteen sucks. The only thing that makes it tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use,” Seth, and co-showrunners Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, shared in a statement.
Now, we have a first look teaser and the premiere date has been revealed!

The show is set in 1993 and Ted (MacFarlane) is “living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.”

Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed bear Ted is back with a message for his future self.
“Dear future Ted, it’s me, 1993 Ted. If you’re reading this, it means we got a new series on the most successful streaming platform ever,” he says, before his future self quips — “Eh, we got a new series.”
“Is the future amazing? I bet NASA sends people to the moon all the time,” 1993 Ted adds, to which his future self replies: “Moon colony? Negative. Unlimited porn in our pockets? Check.”
“Anyway, I can’t wait to see your world of flying cars, normal weather and new TV characters that don’t just rehash old stuff,” 1993 Ted concludes his letter, to which future Ted jokes: “Poor bum, had so much hope.”

“Modern Family” has landed a cable run at Warner Bros. Discovery’s TBS network starting Sept. 25.
The ABC sitcom, which ran for 11 total seasons from 2009 to 2020, will air on TBS for a three-hour block on weekdays — specifically from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The licensing by the cable outlet marks an attempt to bolster its comedy options.
Previously, “Friends” and “Young Sheldon” have occupied the hours that “Modern Family” will run. Both shows will remain on the network. Monday saw longer daily marathons of “The Big Bang Theory” on TBS.

Updated with launch taking effect. Modern Family, which wrapped its highly decorated, 11-season network run last year, is embarking on a significant new streaming chapter via a shared deal with Peacock and Hulu.
Starting today, all 250 episodes of the Emmy-laden sitcom are available on both services after years of only having a limited batch of episodes on Hulu.
Indications from the deal announcement on January 26 are that the go-go streaming market remains in full effect. Sources familiar with the terms said the multi-year acquisition price stretched well into nine figures, consistent with healthy rates for recent half-hours such as Friends, The Office and Seinfeld. Prices have been driven steadily higher by the entry of several new billion-dollar players into the streaming fray in the past year.

Eric Stonestreet is saying goodbye. The Modern Family star suits up as Fizbo, his clown alter ego, for one final time in the ABC sitcom's final season episode titled "Paris." "From as far back as I can remember, all I ever wanted was to be a clown in the circus. My dad named me Fizbo, my grandma made all my clown suits, and my parents allowed me to be the kid that raised pigs, played drums, took karate [played] football, And put makeup and wigs on from time to time. All of that led to the moment in 2009 when two writers, Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan wrote a draft of Modern Family called 'Fizbo' and you were introduced to Fizbo, the ass-kicking clown, that will twist you like a balloon...
