Timothée Chalamet has the internet’s approval to add “football analyst” to his résumé now.
The Oscar-nominated actor served as a guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday ahead of the SEC championship game in Atlanta, where he came prepared and fully researched to speak. He held his own among host Rece Davis and analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee.
The A Complete Unknown star picked his guesses for winners during his appearance, starting with Jackson State University competing against Southern University for the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship. “Eight wins in a row, 11 all-conference players,” Chalamet said of Jackson State, which ended up winning. “This should be a comfortable, easy win for them.”
Up next, he correctly predicted the Ohio University Bobcats would beat the Miami University Redhawks, also from Ohio, and that Arizona State would beat Iowa State. He’s also guessing that on Saturday night,...

Blake Shelton participated in a new television gig involving college sports, but not all fans favored his appearance on the program.
Shelton, a former judge on The Voice, appeared on the set of the popular show College GameDay.
The show features a panel of regulars and usually one guest star who drops by to give their thoughts and picks for the upcoming college games.
This edition occurred in Shelton’s home state of Oklahoma, where a big matchup was looming between the Tennessee Volunteers and Oklahoma Sooners.
Due to the show’s location, the crowd featured many Sooners fans anxiously anticipating the panel’s picks. As one might guess, Shelton took the home team.
“There is no way in hell I am picking against Ou. We got it! Whoo!” Shelton told a fired-up crowd as he donned a cowboy hat with Ou on the front.

College Football Playoff Contract With ESPN Not Finalized Yet; Cfp Rep Says Reporting Is 'Incorrect'
Recent conference realignment has thrown a wrench into broadcast negotiations as playoff structure must be determined before TV contracts.
In the words of iconic ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.” Despite reports earlier this month that Disney and the College Football Playoff Committee had reached a six-year to ESPN’s exclusive broadcast agreement for the Cfp playoffs, Yahoo! Sports is reporting that this is not the case. According to documents secured by the outlet, the appropriate playoff executives have not even reviewed a draft of the new proposal and any reporting that suggests that a deal is done was not accurate.
Key Points: Despite reporting last week that an extension has been reached a Cfp rep says that is “incorrect.” Previous reports indicated that ESPN had secured the playoff rights through the 2031-32 season. Recent conference realignment has made finalizing broadcast deals difficult. Sign Up Now $10.99+ / month espnplus.

ESPN acknowledged it was “clearly wrong in submitting certain names going back to 2007” in light of a shocking report that reveals how the network skirted Emmy rules to help on-air talent rack up trophies.
Much of the report involved the stars of College GameDay, who picked up multiple Sports Emmys for Outstanding Weekly Studio Show between 2008 and 2018. Up until 2023, talent could not be included in a credit list for Outstanding Weekly Show; hosts, analysts and reporters on could win individual awards, but they couldn’t earn an Emmy if the show triumphed.
According to a report in The Athletic, ESPN got around the rule by creating fake names for the credit list it submitted for College GameDay. All were listed as associate producers. Once the show won for Outstanding Weekly Show, ESPN took the awards earned by those fake folks and had them re-engraved with the names of on-air personalities.

A stunning new report details more than a decade of fraudulent Sports Emmy submissions by ESPN that resulted in wrongfully obtained awards for the network’s on-air personalities.
In an exposé published Thursday by The Athletic, a sports-centric subdivision of The New York Times, it’s reported that since at least 2007 — but possibly dating as far back as 1997 — ESPN circumvented an Emmys rule that prohibited on-air talent from being awarded in the Outstanding Weekly Studio Show category.

ESPN has disciplined members of its staff who worked for years to secure Emmys for on-air personnel who were not normally eligible for the awards by using fake names and entering them in various categories, according to an investigation by The Athletic.
The probe found that ESPN has for more than a decade inserted fake personnel names in entries to win more than 30 Emmys, then took the awards, removed the fraudulent nameplates and had the statues engraved anew so they could be given to on-air staff. Among those who were given the ill-gotten awards are Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard and Samantha Ponder. Much of the activity seems to center around “College GameDay,” the Disney-backed sports-media outlet’s very popular college-football program.
“Some members of our team were clearly wrong in submitting certain names that may go back to 1997 in Emmy categories where they were not eligible for recognition or statuettes.

Vince Vaughn told us in his 1996 film, Swingers, to always double down on 11 when playing blackjack.
Now he’s advanced to sports betting advice, appearing as the celebrity guest Saturday on ESPN’s College Game Day.
Vaughn wore a Notre Dame letterman jacket as he sat on stage alongside Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard
He explained that he was wearing the jacket because of his role in the 1993 sports film classic, Rudy, the story of an undersized lineman who made a play for the ages in Notre Dame football. Vaughn played quarterback Jamie O’Hara in the film, and cited that as his reason when he picked Notre Dame to win over the Ohio State Buckeyes

My earliest memory of Burt was at football practice in 1954. I was a sophomore, and he was a freshman. It was tackling practice. I had to tackle him, and he ran right over my ass. Boom. I said, “Who the hell was that?” and some guy said, “That’s Buddy Reynolds from West Palm Beach.” We all called him Buddy. He was a hell of a runner. I couldn’t handle him.
We roomed together on the road, and that’s how we got to know each other. He was so good-looking, I used to set him up as bait. He would go over to the student union and pick up two girls. Our secret was his looks and my car — a 1952 green Chevrolet. He was a great guy to hang around with. He had a great sense of humor. He was always happy, never a grouchy kind of guy.

Katy Perry popped up on Espn’s College GameDay this weekend, hung out with hosts Lee Corso and Chris Fowler, made some sports predictions ("by their colors"), and sorta denied, sorta confirmed Super Bowl rumors: "I have let them know that I’m not the type of girl that would pay to play the Super Bowl, so the ball is in their field." She's referring to The Wall Street Journal's report that this year would be the first the NFL would ask for artists to pay to play the Halftime Show — a request that they've put out to Coldplay, Rihanna, and Perry. Are we being thrown for a loop here? Perry is the perfect Super Bowl candidate: She's got the recent tour choreography, a new album, the big hits (cues medley), and, clearly, a love of sports. Also, like she said: It's up to them. This could still happen.

If you’re like me, the word “football” conjures images of Peyton Manning throwing a Td pass to Dallas Clark, controversy over the Bcs, and Jim Mora talking about playoffs. But as Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast!” Apparently, to the rest of the world, football is what we Americans call soccer. Now, isn’t that just confusing. Couldn’t you guys also call it soccer? Chicago – I didn’t think that I could possibly be more amped up for the start of the college football season. And then I played “Ncaa Football 10,” a fantastic sports game that comes closer than any title before at recreating the excitement of any given Saturday and serves as the perfect build-up to the actual season to come.
Video Game Rating: 4.5/5.0 The real-life college football of the last few years has been as dramatically rich and full of twists and turns as any Hollywood sports movie production (only with decidedly less Dennis Quaid). Last season produced more upsets and new #1 teams than anyone could have predicted. How do you bring that kind of excitement to a video game? Is it possible to take a medium that uses a controller and make it feel uncontrolled, spontaneous, and enjoyable? “Ncaa Football 10” proves that the answer is yes.
