The BBC could lose Olympics coverage from 2022 to ITV or Channel 4.
Discovery, which owns Eurosport, signed a €1.3 billion (£920 million) Europe-wide deal for the Games earlier this year, and now a senior executive has said the world's biggest sporting event might not be broadcast on the BBC.
"You would think that the BBC would be competing for that but they may not necessarily get it," said Phil Craig, Discovery's chief creative officer to Radio Times.
"It could be ITV or Channel 4."
Under the terms of their deal, the sporting event must be given broadcasting rights to a free-to-air UK broadcaster. Historically, these rights went to the BBC.
The BBC will retain the broadcasting rights for the 2018 games, but after that, the free-to-air home of the Olympics could change.
A spokesperson for the BBC previously said: "More than 90% of the UK population watched the BBC's coverage of London 2012 and it...

The ABC has rejected a campaign orchestrated by the filmmakers to allocate an earlier timeslot to Once My Mother.
Sophia Turkiewicz.s documentary, in which she investigates why her Polish mother abandoned her and uncovers the truth behind her wartime escape from a Siberian gulag, will screen on Sunday October 26 at 10.20 pm.
Producer Rod Freedman begged the ABC to schedule the feature-length film at 9.30 pm or earlier, fearing it would be ignored in the .graveyard. timeslot.
He wrote to ABC TV director Richard Finlayson, who he says declined to get involved, so he appealed to ABC head of programming Brendan Dahill.
Dahill replied, .I am happy with the slot that we have chosen for the show and the context and the environment within which we have placed it..
So Freedman launched a campaign, expressing his anger and disgust and asking industry colleagues to lobby via email Finlayson and Dahill.
All to no avail.
