Is an accomplished flautist.

His first job was as a sketch artist for local television news stations in the 1980s. When a courtroom sketch artist called in sick, he began filling in for the previous artist.

After graduating from Flint Southwestern Academy, he received a Chrysler-sponsored art scholarship at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan, which was followed by an Art Excellence scholarship and a full athletic scholarship for football at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on July 30, 2021 (his 53rd birthday). Howie Mandel and Tichina Arnold were guest speakers at the ceremony.

The first movie he ever saw was The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975).

Has had a life long interest in makeup effects and thought of pursuing it during his teenage years. Cited Rick Baker as one of his biggest influences.
