The sculptures of Gonzalo Fonseca — hand-carved blocks of marble and limestone riddled with secret compartments, moveable pieces, mysterious emblems, and tiny staircases — look like Paleolithic dollhouses designed by M.C. Escher. They don’t quite make sense, but they radiate an internal logic so seductive it’s hard not to feel as though you once encountered them in a dream, wandering through the works like abandoned cities. While Fonseca enjoyed a one-man show at the Jewish Museum in 1979 and represented his native Uruguay in the 1990 Venice Biennale, after his death in 1997, his work has lapsed into obscurity. A forgotten man who made mazes, Fonseca could have emerged from the pages of Jorge Luis Borges. The lost artist is poised to make a dramatic resurgence, however, with a new documentary directed by Michael Gregory. Slated for the 2016 festival circuit, the film is one prong of a full-blown Fonseca...

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.

There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts? hollywoodnews.com: Over the weekend, the Visual Effects Society announced the nominees for its 10th Annual Ves Awards ceremony, recognizing summer tentpoles (“Harry Potter,” “Captain America”) and surprise hits (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Hugo”) for their outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games.

“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”

Christopher Nolan's "Inception" dominated the 9th annual Visual Effects Society Awards winning the top prize of Outstanding Visual Effcts in a VFX-driven feature. The mind-bending film won all four categories that it was nominated for.

DreamWorks Animations' "How to Train Your Dragon" also received love from the Ves sweeping the feature animation categories including Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature.

The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton, also paid homage to Nolan by giving him the inaugural Ves Visionary Award. The great Ray Harryhausen was given the much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Visual Effects Society (Ves) has announced the nominees for the 9th Annual Ves Awards ceremony recognizing outstanding visual effects artistry in 24 categories of film, animation, television,

commercials and video games.

Christopher Nolan's "Inception" dominated the nominations receiving four nods. Nolan will also be honored at the event with the inaugural Ves Visionary Award. Ray Harryhausen will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Ves Awards will take place on Tuesday, February 1 and will air exclusively on Reelzchannel Saturday, February 19 at 10p Et/Pt with encore presentations throughout February.

Teenager Justin Bieber had four of the top 10 most-watched music videos in the world on YouTube in 2010, with "Baby" taking claiming the top spot at more than 400 million views, YouTube said on Monday. The 16 year-old Canadian, who was first discovered in 2008 by posting home videos on YouTube, also saw "Never Say Never," "Never Let You Go" and "Somebody to Love Remix" make the most-watched videos from major music labels for 2010. A young Alabama man giving an impassioned TV news interview about a local crime spree became the most-watched YouTube entry outside those produced by major music labels. "Bed Intruder Song" -- a remix of the words by Antoine Dodson, 24, set to a song by New York musicians Evan and Michael Gregory -- was viewed 60 million times around the world. The song also entered the iTune charts and the revenue helped Dodson buy a new house.

In Part One of our interview with Denise Alexander, the legendary actress spoke about her early career on radio and television, her first three TV soaps including the breakthrough role of Susan Hunter Martin on Days Of Our Lives. She also revealed how her guest appearance on the web series Pretty came about. In Part Two below, Alexander talks about leaving Days and joining the cast of General Hospital as Lesley Webber, her years on that soap, and how it felt during the height of fame during the show's glory years.

Dodson appeared briefly in all of his red bandana’ed glory for a short “best of” version of the Bed Intruder song, which everyone has been loving/hating/incredibly offended by for weeks now. In case you’ve never heard or seen the famous meme (for example, you had been frozen in a glacier for thousands of years until earlier today) Dodson’s amazing televised rant at his sister’s unknown assailant was embraced by the Internet and turned into a beautiful song…an Autotuned song. Michael Gregory of the Gregory Brothers, one member of the group who originally Autotuned the song played the keyboard,...

You've no doubt discovered The Gregory Brothers' "Auto-Tune the News" YouTube series. In August, their 'Bed Intruder' song became a viral internet sensation -- with the help of Antoine Dodson's "lyrics." At the Bet Hip-Hop Awards 2010 (Tue., 8Pm Et on Bet), Dodson and Michael Gregory performed a live version of the hit.

"Weeelll, he's climbing in your window, he's snatching your people up, trying to rape us so y'all need to hide your kids, hide your wife, hide your kids, hide your wife!" sang Dodson.

Gregory took it from there. Audience members added a bit of choreography. But Dodson and his sister won't have to worry about a Lincoln Park rapist anymore. With the earnings the song has made on iTunes, Dodson bought his family a house -- away from the projects.

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.

This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.

Academy voters had their hands full this year in pairing down some 2,000 web shows submitted from fans in over 100 different countries. Looks like Tmi Weekly's Julia Allison isn't going to be the only web celebrity plugging Sony TVs and laptops this holiday season. Indie breakout satire series Auto-Tune the News from The Gregory Brothers has inked a sizable promo deal with Sony Electronics. Michael Gregory touched on the deal while speaking at NewTeeVee Live conference today. The auto-tuning foursome—which is actually three brothers, one sister— Sarah, Evan, Andrew, and Michael have been making waves (and friends with T-Pain) since dropping their first musical mashup on YouTube back in April. There aren't many details to report, other than it's going to be some sort of "viral campaign" produced alongside Sony's longtime La-based agency 180. "It's going to be similar to the kinds of things you've seen from us," Gregory tells us. The deal with Sony was said to have come before the pair singed a non-exlcusive distro deal with Next New Networks' Barely Political channel.

The Marvel Studios-produced superhero movie was cited in the categories of visual effects in a visual effects-driven movie, best single visual effect of the year, outstanding animated character in a live-action movie, outstanding models and miniatures in a feature, and outstanding special effects in a movie. The nominees cited for "Iron Man" are Ben Snow, Hal Hickel, Victoria Alonso and John Nelson.
