Songwriter, composer ("I've Got It Bad", "Johnny Guitar", "My Restless
Lover", "Jacqueline"), author, conductor, pianist and arranger,
educated at Southern Methodist University. He studied music with his
father, and with Tibor Serly. He was pianist and arranger for Fred
Waring and the Pennsylvanians, and also wrote musical revues for Dallas
Little Theatres, later touring Europe with the Paul Whiteman Rhythm
Boys. He scored films in London, and was staff composer for Radio City
Music Hall in New York. His stage scores include "Dr. Willy Nilly" and
"The Long Dream". He conducted the orchestra for Broadway musicals such
as "The Seven Lively Arts", "Kiss Me, Kate", "Fanny", "Kean" and "The
King and I". He joined ASCAP in 1954.
