Barry Davies began broadcasting with BFBS in Cologne and spent a year
on BBC Radio with "Sport Report". He joined "The Times" in 1963 and
began commentating on Football in February 1966. He covered the World
Cup for ITV. He commentated for ABC TV (1966-1968) and for Granada
(1968-1969). He became an all round commentator for the BBC from 1969
to his retirement in 2004. He has covered athletics, badminton,
football, tennis and water skiing.
He was educated at Cranbrook School in Kent and graduated from London University. He is married to Penny and they have a daughter Giselle and a son Mark. He received the M.B.E. in HM The Queen's New Year's Honours List 2005 for services to Sports Broadcasting.
