It’s been 24 years since Rage Against the Machine performed a protest set outside the Democratic National Convention in 2000. Now, with another presidential election looming, the band has revisited the performance, making it available on streaming services.
Released on Friday on Apple Music, Spotify, and other streaming platforms, Democratic National Convention 2000 (Live) captures the six-song performance the band delivered outside the Staples Center on August 14th, 2000, as the party was preparing to nominate then-Vice President Al Gore inside.
Among the songs the band played were hits like “Killing In the Name,” “Bulls on Parade,” “Guerrilla Radio,” “Sleep Now In the Fire,” and more. In between, the band spoke to the energized crowd, alluding to some of the political and social issues of the day.

It’s a family affair. Tom Morello and his teenage son, Roman, cowrote the elder Morello’s rock-rap-soul-Broadway fusion single, “Solider in the Army of Love.” In just three minutes, Morello connects references to New Testament apostles and the Clash to Black History Month and a coming earthquake — all over a funky, heavy riff. The chorus, which sounds like musical theater, is the proclamation, “I’m a soldier in the army of love.”
A lyric video full of revolutionary imagery kind of explains his intention, but he does a better job in his own words.

Tim Commerford, the bassist of the rock band Rage Against the Machine, has said that has no idea if the band has split. Earlier this year, the drummer of the band Brad Wilk claimed that the ‘Killing in the Name’ hitmakers, also comprising Zack de la Rocha and Tom Morello, “will not be touring or playing live again,” as a band, reports ‘Female First UK’.
He announced on Instagram: “I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the cancelled Ratm shows. So, while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that Ratm will not be touring or playing live again.”
“I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was. Bottom of my heart… Thank you to every person who has ever supported us.

Don’t ask Tim Commerford about the status of Rage Against the Machine: “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player,” he told Rolling Stone in a new interview.
Earlier this year, drummer Brad Wilk announced that Rage Against the Machine would “not be touring or playing live again,” effectively signaling the end of the band. “I am sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen,” Wilk wrote in an Instagram post on January 3rd. “I really wish it was…”
Until now, Ratm’s other three members had not addressed Wilk’s proclamation; in the case of Commerford, it was because he had nothing to add.
Asked by Rolling Stone if Ratm is indeed over, Commerford responded, “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for...

After already breaking up one time before, the iconic band Rage Against the Machine has called it quits for the second time.
The band’s drummer, Brad Wilk, confirmed via Instagram that the group will not be getting back together to perform live any time soon.
In a post from January 3, Wilk posted, “While there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know the Ratm will not be touring or playing live again.”
He then goes on to thank fans who have supported the band from the “bottom of my heart.”
Originally, the band’s tour was set to take place in 2020, but Covid-19 caused the group to postpone their concert dates.

Fans of Rage Against the Machine have been patiently waiting for the band to reschedule dates for their Public Service Announcement Tour. Unfortunately, not only will the band not resume going the tour, but the members have decided to call it quits entirely. This is not the first time that Rage Against the Machine has broken up. The members split in 2000 and in 2011. They had recently reunited in 2022 and announced that they would be going on an extensive tour in North America and Europe. Ratm would only play 19 shows due to an injury suffered by frontman Zack de la Rocha. He had erupted his Achilles tendon while on the second stop of the tour at Chicago’s United Center. de la Rocha would tough it out for the first leg of the tour by sitting on a road case every night. However, they decided to call the rest of the...

Rage Against the Machine 3.0 officially came to an end early Wednesday evening, when drummer Brad Wilk informed fans via Instagram that the group wasn’t going to resume its Public Service Announcement reunion tour. “Ratm (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again,” he posted on Instagram. “I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”
On one hand, the news was hardly surprising. Rage are an incredibly volatile band with a long history of dysfunction.

It’s goodbye once again for Rage Against The Machine. In a note to fans, drummer Brad Wilk said that the “Public Service Announcement” reunion tour won’t resume, and the group is not carrying on in any form.
This marks the third farewell for the group. They also split in 2000 and 2011.
“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new dates for all the cancelled Ratm shows,” Wilk wrote on Instagram. “I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. The Weeknd has donated $2.5 million towards providing four million emergency meals to Palestinians in Gaza.
The singer, born Abel Tesfaye, is directing money from his Xo Humanitarian Fund to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme. The Wfp — of which Tesfaye is also a Goodwill Ambassador — is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, and has been helping hundreds of thousands of Gazans in crisis and on the brink of starvation amid their siege under Israel.
“This conflict has unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe beyond reckoning,” reads a statement from Corinne Fleischer, Wfp’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe Region. “Wfp is working round the clock to provide aid in Gaza but a major scale up is needed to address the desperate level of hunger we are seeing. Our teams need safe and sustained humanitarian access, and continued support from donors to reach as many people as we can.

Melanie Martinez showed support for Palestine during her concert in Paris on Sunday by bringing the country’s flag on stage, and her microphone cut out as it was being unfurled.
The incident took place toward the end of the singer’s performance at Zénith Paris – La Villette on Sunday (November 26th). After leaving the stage, she also displayed the following message on the screen: “Free Palestine. Ceasefire now.” It’s unclear whether there is a connection between Martinez raising the flag and her sound being cut.
See the fan-shot footage below. At the time of publishing, Martinez and Zénith Paris have yet to comment on the matter.
Tensions are especially high during the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. At least 1,200 Israelis were killed during an October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, while a reported 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s declaration of war and subsequent bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Melissa Barrera has been dropped from the upcoming Scream VII due to her outspoken social media support of Palestine amidst the Israel-Hamas war.
According to Variety, Deadline, and others, Barrera was booted by the production company behind the Scream franchise, Spyglass Media, with sources citing her recent Instagram posts and Stories voicing anti-Zionist, pro-Palestinian messages as the reason why. Since the conflict broke out last month, the actor has consistently been sharing media depicting inhumane actions of the American and Israeli governments, condemning the oppression of the Palestinian people, and calling for a ceasefire.
Among the (many) posts and Stories Barrera has shared include descriptions of Israel as a settler-colonial, apartheid state guilty of ethnic cleansing. Some of her posts even assert that Israel’s response to the Hamas attacks may constitute a genocide, and quite a few allude to misinformation in “Western media” coverage of the conflict, encouraging...

Rage Against the Machine were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Friday (November 3rd). Rage Against the Machine have responded to this morning’s news that they are among the inductees in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023. The groundbreaking band cited “a surprising trajectory” while thanking their “passionate fans” and others for their inspiration over the years.
In addition to Rage Against the Machine, the 2023 class includes Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, George Michael, Sheryl Crow, and The Spinners. With other nominees like Iron Maiden and Soundgarden missing the cut, Ratm are essentially the lone “rock” act being inducted this year.
In acknowledging the honor, Ratm pointed out their long record of anti-establishment in their statement, which reads as follows:
“It is a surprising trajectory for us to be welcomed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1991 four people in Los Angeles formed a musical group to stand where sound and and solidarity intersect. We called ourselves Rage Against the Machine.

Rage Against the Machine were just two shows into their 2022 Public Service Announcement Tour reunion tour when frontman Zack de la Rocha tore his Achilles tendon during a frenetic rendition of “Bullet in the Head.” He managed to soldier through the rest of the North American leg by sitting on a road case in the center of the stage, but they wound up cancelling the remainder of the tour so he could properly heal.

When Rage Against the Machine canceled their remaining 2022 and 2023 tour dates due to singer Zack de la Rocha’s torn achilles tendon, fans likely assumed that the shows would be made up once he healed. However, in a new interview, guitarist Tom Morello suggests that the future of Ratm is uncertain, and that there’s a chance the shows may never be rescheduled.
After a couple of delays due to the pandemic, Rage Against the Machine finally kicked off their reunion tour last summer, with de la Rocha severely injuring himself during the second show of the outing.
While the singer soldiered on to play the remainder of their North American summer run while seated onstage, Ratm announced that their scheduled 2022 UK/European shows and 2023 North American dates were canceled to allow him time to heal.

Atlanta post-punk outfit Algiers have acquired a rare verse from Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha for their new song, “Irreversible Damage.”
“Irreversible Damage” is a blistering and relentless cut, built around ceaseless percussion, uneasy synths, and what even sounds like a drawn out version of an amber alert phone alarm. De la Rocha cuts through this chaos with some characteristically steely bars, spitting, “This a relapse / what it be god / No rehab for my jihad / A rapture in a grief storm / Time on my neck and it be gone.

Rage Against the Machine has confirmed that they will be canceling their North American 2023 tour due to Zack de la Rocha’s leg injury. The news comes after the band had to cancel their shows in Europe following Rocha’s injury during a show in July, the second appearance in their reunion tour.
“It’s been almost three months since Chicago, and I still look down at my leg in disbelief,” read the statement by Rocha posted on Instagram. “Two years of waiting through the pandemic, hoping we would have an opening to be a band again and continue the work we started 30 some odd years ago. Rehearsing, training, reconciling, working our way back to form. Then one and a half shows into it and my

Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello had a run-in with security during the rock band’s concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.
As seen in a fan-captured video, midway through the group’s closing song, “Killing in the Name,” the iconic guitarist was accidentally knocked over by a security guard sprinting toward an unruly fan who snuck onto the stage.
Rage frontman Zack de la Rocha — who was seated because of a recent foot injury — continued performing the heavy protest track for a few moments before realizing there was a problem and stopping the show. “Hold up, hold up, hold up,” the rapper repeated, motioning to his bandmates to halt the performance.
As the lights went up, Morello was seen quickly standing up with a smile on his face and indicating to the roaring crowd that he wasn’t harmed during the incident.

Rage Against the Machine detail the grim American history behind their 1991 anthem “Killing in the Name” in a new mini-documentary.
The 15-minute film Killing in Thy Name, a collaboration with the arts collective the Ummah Chroma, features a teacher educating a small group of students about “the fiction known as whiteness” as well as the United States’ history of racial and social oppression. The mini-doc also features quotations from historians like Howard Zinn and live footage of Rage Against the Machine performing the track, which bizarrely became a pro-Trump rallying cry following the 2020 presidential election.
