Conceived by Barbara Pyle and media mogul Ted Turner, Captain Planet was an ecological hero way ahead of his time. The animated series ran for years with some nifty design work by Neal Adams and his Continuity Associates. Each episode featured an adventure and a lesson (of course). It endeared itself to a generation of viewers and remained an enduring figure from the 1990s.
Now, Warner Home Entertainment has released Captain Planet the Complete Franchise, with 41 hours and 31 minutes of environmental goodness. For silly legal reasons, the show has two titles evenly split among its six seasons: Captain Planet and the Planeteers (animated by Dic) and The New Adventures of Captain Planet (animated by Hanna-Barbera) for the final three seasons.

Mark your calendars. On June 7, 2024, a brand-new Karate Kid film will premiere. This is according to Sony Columbia Pictures. Cobra Kai, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix, just put out its fifth season to rave reviews, opening with a perfect 100 score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. It’s a repeat of the first season’s perfect 100 score, and every other season has topped 90 or higher. At 10 episodes per season, Cobra Kai is 50 episodes deep. What might a feature film bring to the franchise?
For anyone following along, the show’s creators have already tipped their hands. It opens the portal to the Miyagi-verse.
“It’s a ginormous universe,” teased Josh Heald, one of the show’s creators. Heald spoke to Den of Geek last year right after he and his two creative partners, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg renewed their contract with Sony. Their deal lasts for four years.

Cinema deserves rich stories and positive portrayals of Latino life, but director Fro Roja's cheapjack family dramedy—about a middle-aged Washington Heights bachelor unequipped to suddenly care for six children—doesn't try to be anything more than a soft-serve pull of treacly pandering. Writer and co-producer Joey Dedio stars as rockabilly-haired, party-hearty wage slave Ray Ray Dominguez, an affable but underwritten mess of blind optimism and self-righteousness, who must now play "Uncle Daddy" to his dead sister's six-to-16-year-olds. Cue the phony affirmational bonding and cheesy montage of doing chores together (one of the kids has to sleep in the laundry basket, how heartbreakingly cute!), smothered by a bombastically tacky salsa soundtrack that's more a Nuyorican clich...

CineMovie is giving away movie tickets to see the family comedy Tio Papi, a new independent film screening in Pico Rivera, CA on Thursday, September 5th.
It was a bachelor's life for hard-working and fun-loving Ray Ray Dominguez (Joey Dedio) who dreams of leaving the barrio for a more carefree existence in Miami. That's until one day when everything changed and he became a reluctant Tio Papi to his sister¹s six children ages six to 16.
Now, in charge of raising this energetic (and expensive) clan, Ray Ray must make important decisions on what life really is all about. Combining heart-warming drama with light-hearted comedy, Tio Papi, directed by Fro Rojas from the original screenplay by Joey Dedio and Brian Herskowitz, is an upbeat story of life's unexpected surprises and ultimately what matters the most the love of family.

Remember Kelly McGillis from Top Gun and Witness? The 80s star can be seen in an independent film Tio Papi as a social worker placing a family of six with their uncle after their parent's death. Take a look at the film and movie poster.
Don't be surprised if you don't recognize Kelly McGillis, but she's the white-haired character. In a case of "Where are they now," McGillis disappeared from Hollywood but returned to star in smaller fare after her success in the 80s co-starring with Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Jodie Foster. She's starring alongside newcomers in this independently produced film.
