Something tells us this particular take on The Little Mermaid won't be belting out "Part of Your World" and cavorting with Sebastian and her other aquatic pals "Under the Sea."

Continuing the recent trend of re-adapting Disney favorites such as Winnie-The-Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio and Bambi for the horror genre, a new adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's classic tale is on the way from Lionsgate's Msr Media International and Grindstone Entertainment, and the first full trailer is now online (via Bloody Disgusting).

First published in 1837, Anderson's original story was significantly darker than the Disney animated version and the more recent live-action remake, but turning Ariel (here named Aurora) into a flesh-eating monster might be taking things a bit too far!

This version of the titular mermaid is a member of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society that's unearthed during an archaeological expedition.

While the 2023 Live-Action Remake of Disney’s 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid wasn’t a failure at the box office, it certainly caused quite an uproar. The first teaser trailer is currently the most disliked Hollywood trailer of all time on YouTube. Now the beloved classic is being reimagined by another studio, but this time following in the footsteps of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Simply titled The Little Mermaid, the film comes from the independent film studio Msr Media. The film seems to blend elements from the original story but set in the modern day. But, it seems that this was not the final live-action adaptation of the story, as Msr Media International is bringing us a live-action horror adaptation of Andersen’s story, which recently received its first trailer and poster.

We’re not sure that anyone wanted this, but the horrible slasher Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey opened the door for such endeavors, and based on the information we have, we’re in for a series of (probably bad) low-budget horror adaptations of beloved children’s tales that will satisfy only those with the strongest of stomachs and lowest of expectations.

The latest batch of movie ratings decided upon by the Motion Picture Association ratings board were revealed today, with R ratings going to the likes of The Exorcism, The Strangers: Chapter 1, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga… and something a bit less expected. Possessed of an interesting title – why is it called “The Toybox” if it’s about a family taking a ride in an Rv which breaks down in the desert? – and a cast of a much higher calibre than the average indie horror movie – Denise Richards and Mischa Barton are two of the stars – I was looking forward to watching this.

Without being too critical, it’s never a good sign when you can predict how the first scene in a movie will play out. There’s a dirty, old-looking Rv parked on a street, and a kid on his bicycle. The Rv’s door swings open. My wife immediately chimes in with “that kid’s getting sucked into that Rv and the door will slam shut”. I guessed “blood splatter on the windows, as seen from the outside”. We were both right!

Generally speaking, the words "Mischa Barton horror movie" send me running the other way but for whatever reason, I clicked play on the trailer for Tom Nagel's The Toybox and I must admit, I may have judged Barton too soon.

The movie follows an estranged family who takes a family trip to the desert in their Rv. It's supposed to be a bonding trip to get everyone back into talking terms but when they find themselves stranded in the desert, they "soon learn their Rv holds terrible, haunting secrets."

In addition to Barton, the movie also stars Jeff Denton and a nearly unrecognizable Denise Richards.

Los Angeles-based CineTel Films has acquired worldwide rights to supernatural thriller The Toybox and will launch sales in Cannes.

Denise Richards and Mischa Barton star in the tale of a family on a cross-country trip who fall prey to a supernatural force in the desert. Production wrapped in April.

The film also stars Jeff Denton, Brian Nagel, Greg Violand, Matt Mercer, Malika Michelle, David H. Greathouse and Katie Keene.

Tom Nagel directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Denton.

Jeff Miller, Tom Nagel, Brian Nagel and Denton are producing, while Jim Jacobsen, Eric Brenner, and Ronnie D. Lee serve as executive producers.

NCIS: Los Angeles Races a Deadline

Callen and the team investigate after local TV reporter Adriana Gomez is killed in a drive-by shooting. Gomez had done several reports on the unrest in Libya and had been contacted by Asaad El-Libi, a pirate broadcaster who had gotten around Gaddafi’s Internet firewalls to become a source of inspiration to rebel forces. NCIS became involved because one of Gomez’s sources was Cmdr. Gavin Madison (Jeff Denton) in Naval Intelligence.

Asaad El-Libi was described as an expatriate who had lived in the U.S. and moved back to Libya when tensions rose there. One-eyed Monster, just out on DVD from Liberation Entertainment, is a horror/comedy (with an emphasis on the comedy) set in the mountain wilderness of Mammoth Lakes, CA, where a porn shoot is taking place with adult-film legends Ron (“The Hedgehog”) Jeremy and Veronica Hart (playing themselves) plus a group of younger cast and crew. During the filming of one sequence, Jeremy can’t get his johnson to respond, and so he steps outside for some fresh air—where he’s possessed by an alien that appears as a flash of light in the sky.

When the director (Jeff Denton) subsequently asks Jeremy if his tallywhacker is now up to the task, the actor replies in the affirmative.
