U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has released a first look image of its new comedy series, “Big Mood” (working title), produced by Fremantle‘s Dancing Ledge Productions. The six-part series explores the intricacies of female friendship when confronted with the complexities of serious mental illness.

Starring in the show are Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West. Joining the ensemble cast are Niamh Cusack, Eamon Farren, Luke Fetherston, Kate Fleetwood, Rob Gilbert, Rebecca Lowman, Sally Phillips, Ukweli Roach, and Amalia Vitale. R Madhavan’s directorial debut, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, is ready for its release, and to build the excitement, the actor-turned-director shared a new poster ofthe film which he also wrote and is playing the the lead character. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is slated to hit the theatres globally 1st July 2022.

Taking to Instagram, he posted: “New Poster Folks — the story of a great scientist, a true patriot, who was turned into a villain in the blink of an eye. Rocketry The Nambi Effect releasing in theatres on 1st July 2022.”

Staged on a mammoth scale, the film was shot in India, France, Canada, Georgia, Serbia, and Russia. Netflix and Sky have revealed the six screenwriters selected for the inaugural, year-long Bisha K. Ali screenwriting talent program.

“Ms. Marvel” (pictured above) head writer Bisha K. Ali spearheads the program, which saw almost 2,000 applicants for six places. The final six chosen were Asad Ullah, Daniel T. David, Kayla Hendy, Kim Taylor, Lewis Wren and Robyn Ahern.

“The world of screenwriting is a historically difficult one to break into, made even more challenging by the systemic issues within our industry,” said Ali. “Our fellowship doesn’t purport to have all the answers, but we aspire to be a part of the movement towards a more inclusive industry.”

Applicants were required to submit a full script and, as part of the program, will be assigned a mentor as well as getting to have one-on-one chats with industry heavyweights including Charlie Brooker, Charlie Covell, Kate Herron, Chandni Lakhani and Laurie Nunn.

The director attached to the project had to drop out at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts and Madhavan who had a deep understanding of the script having written it himself after conversations with Narayanan had to take up the mantle.

Indian actor and filmmaker R Madhavan’s directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect will receive its world premiere in Cannes on May 19 as part of the celebration of India as the official country of honor at the Cannes Market this year. Check out some exclusive new photos above and below.

The film is not part of the festival’s Official Selection, but kicks off a tradition that the market will continue as it designates countries of honor during future editions. This being the 75th Cannes, Rocketry notably coincides with 75 years of Indian independence. India’s Ministry of Culture selected the film for its red carpet premiere in Cannes.

The biographical drama was shot simultaneously in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil and English, with the English version showing in Cannes. The theatrical release is set for July 1 and will also feature Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada versions.

Madhavan plays the role of the eponymous Nambi Narayanan, a former Indian Space Research Organization scientist and aerospace engineer. Madhavan also wrote and produces the film.

Rocketry traces the life of Narayanan, renowned for developing the Vikas Engine — one of the most efficient, liquid fuel engines in the world that continues to be a workhorse at the Isro in almost every launch with the unique distinction of never having failed. However, the former Isro scientist and aerospace engineer was ultimately embroiled in a spy scandal. The film unveils the truth behind the mystery as it unravels in an interview by Shah Rukh Khan (in English and Hindi) and Suriya Sivakumar (in Tamil) on a TV program.

Speaking about Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’s world premiere during Cannes, Madhavan tells Deadline, “I feel very honored and privileged to be attending Cannes for the very first time and yet very nervous deep in my guts. But then, I keep reminding myself that all I ever wanted was to really tell a story, a story that possessed me and I just wanted to put it out there.”

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is produced by TriColour Films, Varghese Moolan Pictures and 27th Investments. The film is being distributed by UFO Moviez in India, with Red Giants distributing in the south. Yash Raj Films and Phars Film Co have international rights.

Sundance Film Festival: London will return to Picturehouse Central, London, for its sixth year from 29 July to 1 August 2021, as an in-person event. The program of at least 12 features will open with the UK premiere of Edgar Wright’s debut documentary The Sparks Brothers, about the U.S. rock band. The Screen Actors Guild has announced their list of nominations for the best performances of 2011. I have to point out that I'm surprised Tom Hardy and Joel Edgarton weren't nominated for their roles in Warrior, because they were pretty damn awesome in that film. I think they deserved a nom more than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio but his performance in J. Edgar wasn't his best. Brad Pitt will end up taking home the award for Moneyball though. It was great to see Bridesmaids and The Help get a nomination for best ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see who takes home the award on this list, and how many of them will make their way to the Oscars.

Nominations for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are in, and Emma Stone is leading the way. Her summer sleeper hit, "The Help," nabbed the most movie nominations with four, followed by Oscar-fav "The Artist" with three and a handful of others with two ("Bridesmaids," "The Descendants," "Moneyball").

On the television side of things, "Modern Family" soared to the top of the pack with five nods, while "30 Rock" and "Dexter" each garnered two. HBO reeled in the most total noms with 11.

Meryl Streep was among the nominees when the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced this morning.

Streep was nominated for her role in “The Iron Lady,” a biopic about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

“The Help” was one of the leading candidates with the film’s actors getting a nod for outstanding cast; “The Help” stars Viola Davis (leading role) and Octavia Spencer (supporting role) were also tapped for individual nominations.

Game of Thrones: Season 1, Episode 9: Baelor Photos have premiered. TV Review for Game of Thrones, Season 1, episode 9 – entitled Baelor - has premiered. Baelor was the finest episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones to date. Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss and director Alan Taylor did a great job. Fantastic twists and turns (I haven’t read the books yet but I am working on it).

The witch/blood spell scene between Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was like watching a movie: Excellent camera work and sound effects. Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) was right about the armor and the Dothraki not being used to fighting against it. It was the only reason he won.

The latest HBO TV trailers for Game of Thrones 2011 show the different aspects of its multiple story-lines, especially how death and betrayal motivate many things. HBO’s Game of Thrones adaption follows (spoilers) “Seven noble families fight[ing] for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor. HBO has finally released the full cast and crew list for the highly anticipated upcoming television series based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series. One change to the cast to note is the replacement of Jamie Campbell-Bower with Rob Ostlere in the role of Waymar Royce. The series due to premiere in 2011 and will have ten episodes in its first season. Production resumes on July 26, 2010 in Belfast, Ireland. Check out the complete cast and crew list below.

It's official fantasy fans! George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" has been officially greenlit by HBO for 10 eps to see how the show fares. They've also released the first image from the show's pilot. Full production will begin in June and no word yet on an actual premiere date.

Cast members include Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Cersei's brother, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Cersei's twin, Sean Bean as aristocrat Ned Stark, Jennifer Ehle, Catelyn Stark, and Mark Addy as King Robert.

HBO has officially given the greenlight to a 10 episode series based on George R.R. Martin’s series of fantasy books. The pilot completed filming last November, and the series proper goes into production this June. We also have the first image from the show:

The Game of Thrones cast includes Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, a woman of royal blood, Peter Dinklage as Cersei’s brother Tyrion, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Cersei’s twin, Jaime, Sean Bean as aristocrat Ned Stark, Jennifer Ehle as his wife, Catelyn Stark, and Mark Addy as King Robert.

Everyone back from their bunks? So, filming for the pilot wrapped back in November, shooting for three weeks in three countries, and production on the other nine episodes has now been scheduled to start this coming June. The first episodes are slated to begin airing in the spring of 2011. HBO has been fairly tight about any publicity, having released only the screencap below from the first scene of the pilot.

Another day, another round of "Game of Thrones" casting. Over the weekend, as I noted in this story, news emerged that "Stargate Atlantis" actor Jason Momoa has been cast as horse lord Khal Drogo in the epic saga "Game of Thrones." "GoT" began filming its pilot in Northern Ireland this week (other locations include Scotland and Morocco).
