- In Patton (1970) Doucette played a general under the command of Gen. George S. Patton during World War II. Doucette actually fought as an infantryman in Patton's 3rd Armored Div. during World War II--although not as a general--and took part in the famous Battle of the Bulge (also depicted in "Patton").
- Was survived by five daughters, three sons, a brother, a sister, sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren!
- His father was a shoemaker who worked in the many shoe factories in the Boston area. As one would close down, he would have to relocate to find a job at another one. Because of the family's constant moving, as a child Doucette attended more than 32 elementary schools.
- A member of the famed "John Wayne stock company," with supporting parts in four John Wayne films, The Sea Chase (1955), The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), True Grit (1969), and Big Jake (1971).
- Often presumed to be the father of actor Jeff Doucette. Although there is a passing resemblance between the two, John was not the father of Jeff and was not married until approximately one year after Jeff was born. He was not known to have fathered any children out of wedlock.
