His older sister, Caroline Dorough-Cochran, died from Lupus in September 1998. His charity, "The Lupus Foundation", is named after her.

Every year celebrity companions join the Dorough family to raise money. They have raised millions of dollars since they begun their fight against Lupus. They also try to educate others about what Lupus is and encourage those at risk to get tested for it.

He is the most clean and orderly of the group, and for this reason he's called "Mr. Clean".

Son, James Dorough was born at 2:30 pm on May 6, 2009. He is the first child of Howie and his wife Leigh and is named after Howie's late father, Hoke, who died of brain and lung cancer in June 2008.

Like bandmates, AJ and Nick, Howie was also a victim of bullying as a child: lack of Spanish speaking, his falsetto singing voice when he was 12 and his weight.

4th cousin, twice removed, of Bob Dorough.

Howie's mother is Puerto Rican, while Howie's father had Irish and English ancestry.

Was a member of Florida State Thespians troupe 557, Spanish Club, National Honor Society and Drama and was voted Most Talented at Edgewater High School.

[August 16th, 2007] Announced his engagement to long-time sweetheart Leigh Boniello after meeting on December 6, 2000 when she became the band's webmaster during Black & Blue. The couple married later this year. Howie initially prepared his "Will You Marry Me?" speech while he and an unexpected Boniello were on a DLF benefit cruise (The trip was to support the Dorough Lupus Foundation, founded in honor of his late sister) and proposed to Leigh during a New Year's Eve party at her father's house in New Jersey.

He is the "Peace Maker" of the group, because he all the time is reconciled his partner.

He was also involved in a peer counseling group called "Friends," where he talked to other kids about living "a clean life, having fun, going to school, avoiding drugs.".

He used to work as a tour guide at Universal Orlando and worked with his sister at Zarro's Bread Basket one summer in New York when he was 14.

During junior high to high school, Dorough also did some singing in the choir, even qualified for All-State Chorus and talent shows, and joined the drama club and acting school productions, as well as a school TV show called "Macho & Camacho." after he entered high school, he won a role in the production of Camelot at a dinner theater in Orlando.

His choir teacher asked Dorough to perform the National Anthem at his high school basketball game, and he agreed but forgot the words when it was time to sing.

Got discovered by an acting agent when he was 14 and also managed to land roles in movies, such as Parenthood, starring comedian Steve Martin at 15, and Cop and a Half, starring Burt Reynolds, Nickelodeon TV production pilot "Welcome Freshman" and star in a commercial for Disney World under the stage name, Tony Donetti.

He is the youngest brother of up and coming new singer Pollyanna Dorough and uncle of up and coming new singer Chelsea Herring.

Graduated from Edgewater high school in Orlando, Florida in 1991.

Originally cast as Kevin St. James in Nickelodeon's Welcome Freshmen (1991) TV show. But was place in the pilot and in the series he was replaced.

Married long-term love of six years, Leigh Dorough, a film executive producer for Dreamworks and Warner Brothers, real estate agent and the Backstreet Boys's webmaster, in his hometown of Orlando, Florida, on December 8th, 2007.

His father, Hoke Dorough, passed away on June 22nd at 9 am, from complications related to brain and lung cancer.

Son, Holden John Dorough was born at 6:37 am on February 16, 2013. He is the second child for both Dorough and his wife.

Since he was 6 years old, he is working in the entertainment world, all his free time after the school and weekends he took singing and acting lessons and doing auditions.

First jobs: He acted in the movies Parenthood (1989) and Cop & ½ (1993). Moreover, he was a tour guide in "Universal Studios".

The people more important in his life are his family, his brothers in BSB, his longtime pals and his colleagues Rick and Sally.

Howie took dance lessons in classical ballet, tap, and jazz at a performing arts academy of singing and dance. He even was in an all-boy ballet troupe.
