- He started his career as an actor in 1941 in the amateur theatre company Medborgarteatern, which was founded by Ingmar Bergman. He then followed Bergman to the amateur theatre companies Stockholms Studentteater 1943 and Svenska Dramatikers Studio also 1943. He became a professional actor in 1944 at Helsingborgs Stadsteater (the City Theatre of Helsingborg), when the 26 year old Ingmar Bergman became theatre manager of that theatre.
