Horrorfind Weekend 14
Once again Labor Day weekend rolled around and it was time for another trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for the Horrorfind Weekend Convention.
The convention combines all things horror—books, movies, collectibles, etc—and that’s what I really enjoy about it. Last year I had a blast, getting to meet authors I knew online in person and hang out with friends who live in other parts of the country but gather in Gettysburg once a year.
This year’s movie guests included Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange {1971}, Halloween {2007}, and Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse), Ray Wise (Robocop {1987} and David Lynch’s Twin Peaks), Doug Bradley (the Hellraiser series), Mary Woronov (The House Of The Devil {2009}, Eating Raoul {1982}, Death Race 2000 {1975}) and Patty Mullen (Frankenhooker {1990}).
There were quite a few authors representing the small horror press Samhain Publishing, including John Everson, Brian Moreland, David Bernstein,...

NightWhere by John Everson
(Samhain Publishing)
She yearned to go beyond… but some curtains should never be opened.
When Rae broached the idea of visiting an underground sex club, Mark didn’t blink. He should have. Because NightWhere is not your usual swingers club. Where it’s held on a given night…only those who receive the red invitations know. Soon Rae is indulging in her lust for pain. And Mark is warned by a beautiful stranger to take his wife away before it’s too late.
But it’s already too late. Because Rae hasn’t come home. Now Mark is in a race against time—to find NightWhere again and save his wife from the mysterious Watchers who run the club. To stop her from taking that last step through the degradations of The Red into the ultimate Bdsm promise of The Black. More than just their marriage...

We’re back with the latest edition of our Indie Spotlight. This weeks’s feature includes werewolves, zombies at Comic-Con, an 8-Bit Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter game we wish really existed, and more:
City Under the Moon: This is the debut novel by Hugh Sterbakov, the Emmy-nominated writer of Robot Chicken:
“On New Year’s Eve in Manhattan, a werewolf attack sparks an epidemic. Each night the victims multiply. The disease spreads. An army grows. As authorities scramble to contain the monsters, they discover that one man is behind them. His name is Demetrius Valenkov. And he has a message for the United States: Find A Cure.
The disease evades an international coalition of top scientists. The president must prepare an unspeakable solution. But one person has picked up Demetrius Valenkov’s trail: FBI counterterrorism specialist Brianna Tildascow. Forged by tragedy, training and technology, she’s the government’s most efficient-and ruthless-manhunter.

One reader recently tweeted, “NightWhere: what a sex club would be like if it was run by the cast of Hellraiser.” That sums it up pretty well.
The novel will be released to bookstores in trade paperback form this October, but in the meantime, readers can discover its dark allure through all of the usual e-book sources (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc). Readers can also get a sample of the novel — you can read the prologue for free on the publisher’s site: http://store.samhainpublishing.com/nightwhere-p-6803.html.

Another year is coming to an end. Where does the time go? Seems the older I get the faster the time goes and there is no surer sign than that of me getting into the E-Reader game.
I finally broke down and bought a Kindle this year and no the world didn’t end. In fact I am very happy I did. I will first and foremost always love the feel of a real book; the fragrance, the crisp clean pages being turned and the weight of it gently held in my hands.
The Kindle has allowed me to read the back catalogs of many authors I love that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able afford to do. Plus, a lot of publishers and authors are sending me Kindle books for review, which is a lot better than Pdf’s. As I had to print the Pdf books out.

John Everson is a man who not only understands the complexities of a good story; he understands how to utilize the specific tools required to bring a good story to life. Johns latest offering, The Pumpkin Man is a grim Halloween treat; thick in tension, drenched in blood and garnished with a fine slice of bloody gourd. To miss the feast would be nothing short of a travesty, but dont take my word for it; let Mr. Everson tell it as it is! E…...

The Pumpkin Man by John Everson
(Delirium Books – June 2011)
After her father’s gruesome murder, Jenn needed a place to get away from it all with some friends, to take her mind off her grief. The empty seaside cottage she inherited seemed perfect. Jenn didn’t know that the cottage held arcane secrets, mysteries long hidden and best left alone. She didn’t realize until it was too late that the old books and Ouija board she found there really do hold great power. And it was only after her friend’s headless body was discovered that she knew the legend of the local bogeyman was no mere legend at all.
An evil has been unleashed, a terrifying figure previously only spoken of in whispers. But now the whispers will become screams. Beware…The Pumpkin Man.
Halloween in April. Yes you read that right. Actually as far as I am...

Finally, one of my favorite and one of the best horror editors is back in the game. Don D’Auria was the former executive editor for Dorchester Publishing’s Leisure Books imprint. When Dorchester decided to restructure Don was shown the door. He has now been hired by Samhain Publishing to launch a new line of horror fiction. Don has worked with some of the best authors in the business; Brian Keene, Richard Laymon, Ramsey Campbell, Bryan Smith, Mary SanGiovanni, Gord Rollo, John Everson, to name just a few. This is really exciting news for the horror genre. Don is very well liked and respected in the industry and should attract some big names to Samhain. Snow by Ronald Malfi
When a brutal snowstorm shut down all the flights in and out of Chicago, Todd Curry and a few other stranded passengers rented a Jeep to drive the rest of the way to their destinations. But along a forested, isolated road, they picked up a disoriented man wandering through the snow. His car wouldn’t start and his daughter had vanished. Strangest of all were the mysterious slashes cut into the back of the man’s coat, straight down to the flesh….
When they arrived in the nearest town it seemed deserted. Cars sat in the streets with their doors open. Fires burned unattended. But Todd and the rest of the travelers will soon learn the town is far from deserted, for they’re being watched…and hunted. Soon they will discover the inhuman horrors that await them in the…Snow

Siren by John Everson
“Night after night, Evan walked along the desolate beach, grieving over the loss of his son, drowned in an accident more than a year before. Then one night he was drawn to the luminous sound of a beautiful, naked woman singing near the shore in the moonlight. He watched mesmerized as the mysterious woman disappeared into the sea. Driven by desire and temptation, Evan returned to the spot every night until he found her again. Now he has begun a bizarre, otherworldly affair. A deadly affair. For Evan will soon realize that his seductive lover is a being far more evil…and more terrifying…than he ever imagined. He will learn the danger of falling into the clutches of the…Siren”

Some people enjoy the horror genre. John Everson loves it.
The affair started young when, as a child, he used to sneak peeks at genre movies or episodes of The Twilight Zone and, later, copies of Fangoria. As an adult, his passion for the genre has only grown, prompting him to write five novels and plenty of short stories. He’s also had the good fortune to open his own small press, Dark Arts Books.

Hello all Monster Fans,
I have been away for a while and vehemently apologize. I have been bogged down in a project for a company I freelance for, for the past few months as well as my full time job. Deadlines, travel etc…you get the picture.
I wanted to close out 2009 with my top ten books of 2009. I managed to read 56 books this year, not as many as I would have liked but more than I thought. There were some great, some good and some not so good. But I tip my hat to anyone that has the stamina and fortitude to finish a novel.
In my position at Famous Monsters I have been lucky enough to be able to correspond with some of my favorite writers in the Horror field. Some of them have sent me manuscripts of some of their upcoming books. Even though a few of...

Here is some recommended reading for horror fans and gore hounds who like to read, John Everson's The 13th, now available in book stores and on Amazon. Everson is one of the few authors I know of who still includes sex and gore in his books. If you're tired of boring horror novels that hold back on the horrors, Everson is the man for you, and so is the The 13th. The 13th manages to make demonic sacrifices sexy and dangerous again. I'm talking full blown orgies and blood and guts. Rosemary’s Baby ain't got shit on The 13th!
