Fans eager for a Top Gun: Maverick sequel will have to wait a little longer, as the project is still in development. According to actor Jay Ellis, who played Reuben “Payback” Fitch in the 2022 blockbuster, work is ongoing to ensure the story meets high expectations.

Speaking at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards, Ellis gave an exclusive update on Top Gun 3 to Us Weekly. With a playful nod to his character, he joked, “So here’s what the story’s going to be. It’s going to be Payback. No, no, I’m kidding.” But on a serious note, he confirmed, “They’re still working on the script. They’re still working on the story. They’re wanting to get it right.”

Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning stepped out for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards on Friday (February 7) at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif.

For the event, Andrew, 48, looked sharp in a peach-colored blazer with light gray pants while Dakota, 30, went pretty in a mint-colored dress.

Ripley was nominated tonight for Best Limited Series while Andrew was nominated for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television and Dakota was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

The show is airing live on E! this evening and will be hosted by Chelsea Handler. The event was originally scheduled for early January, but was postponed two times due to the Los Angeles wildfires. That's an outlier though. One undeniable truth though is that these movies are a reliable backbone for Hollywood studios, delivering consistent profits against relatively low investments. Good movies, bad movies, it often doesn't matter.

Hardcore horror fans will tell you that the number of bad movies far outweighs the good in any given year. It's about searching for that diamond in the rough.

M. Night Shyamalan is already hard at work on his next film after the success of the Josh Hartnett-led Trap from last year, which grossed over $82 million at the box office last year. Next, Shyamalan will switch gears toward the romance genre with assistance from best-selling author Nicholas Sparks, yes that Nicholas Sparks, who wrote The Notebook and countless other romance tales.

According to a Deadline exclusive, Shyamalan and Sparks are co-writing a screenplay and a novel together about the same original story featuring the same characters and concept. It is being described as a "supernatural romantic thriller." Little else is known about the actual plot details but the outlet also shares that Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the film.

While Shyamalan is no stranger to supernatural thrillers, he hasn't dabbled much in the romance genre, and Sparks isn't known for writing thrillers, so it is an interesting collaboration,...

A UK stage version of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline has been canceled following allegations of sexual misconduct against the Good Omens author.

The musical production was preparing to embark on a UK tour that would take in the Leeds Playhouse, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Birmingham Rep, and Home in Manchester.

In a statement, organizers said they would not continue with the adaptation, citing the claims against Gaiman from a total of nine women. Gaiman has denied sexual misconduct.

“We have decided our production of Coraline – A Musical will not proceed. After careful consideration, we feel it would be impossible to continue in the context of the allegations against its original author. Ticket holders have been contacted directly via email,” the statement said.

The allegations against Gaiman include nonconsensual Bdsm. The claims were first published in a Tortoise podcast, titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. New York magazine carried further allegations earlier this month.

Peacock has handed a series pickup to The Five-Star Weekend, a drama starring and executive produced by Jennifer Garner, from UCP.

The project, created by Bekah Brunstetter based on the bestselling novel by The Perfect Couple author Elin Hilderbrand, had been in the works at the streamer for about a year under an overall deal Sue Naegle and Ali Krug signed with the Universal Studio Group unit for their Dinner Party Productions. The series green light was secured by Garner coming on board as star and executive producer.

Peacock has ordered a series adaptation of the Elin Hilderbrand novel “The Five-Star Weekend” with Jennifer Garner attached to star, Variety has learned.

The project was first reported to be in development at Peacock in April 2024 as part Sue Naegle and Ali Krug’s overall deal with UCP under their Dinner Party Productions banner.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson has a response for anyone who still wants to tell him that the franchise “ruined the vampire genre.”

In an interview with GQ Spain, the soon-to-be Mickey-17 star shared how he deals with this opinion almost two decades after the first film arrived.

“I love that people keep telling me, ‘Man, ‘Twilight’ ruined the vampire genre,’” Pattinson said in the interview, translated by Variety. “Are you still stuck on that shit? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”

For whatever reason, Hollywood doesn't produce movies like "Legally Blonde" anymore. Brightly colored, fun, and undeniably optimistic, this Reese Witherspoon comedy succinctly captures the zeitgeist of the early 2000s, and it now serves as a time capsule to a more innocent time when it felt possible for a fashion merchandising student to usurp the Harvard snobs and become a full-fledged lawyer. Truly, director Robert Luketic's upbeat tone, to say nothing of Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith's snappy script, is a key reason for the film's enduring success -- it's the perfect underdog tale, featuring a likable character worth rooting for and an uplifting message about staying true to yourself and persevering in the face of adversity.

"Legally Blonde" earned solid reviews from critics, earned a pair of Golden Globe nominations, including one for Witherspoon, made a killing at the box office, led to two sequels (and counting), and even spawned a musical.

Netflix continues to dominate the streaming sphere, and frankly it's not hard to see why. The streamer pumps out so much so-called "content" that I'm starting to wonder whether half of this stuff isn't already being generated by some god awful AI. Still, amid the onslaught of media, Netflix put out some pretty good films in 2024, most notably the killer action thriller "Rebel Ridge," which surely went a long way to helping star Aaron Pierre land the role of John Stewart in DC and James Gunn's burgeoning shared universe.

Netflix started 2025 strong, too, proving that streaming audiences still know a good film when they see one by delivering Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" to its servers and seeing it shoot to the top of the charts. No doubt the rest of the year will see more of the same quality filmmaking punctuating a sea of otherwise forgettable streaming slush. But...

The 82nd Golden Globes awards ceremony has just finished up, and while a number of comic book, sci-fi, fantasy and horror movies and TV shows were nominated in several major categories, only a few prevailed on the night.

Colin Farrell won Best actor in an anthology, limited series, or TV movie for his lead performance as Oz Cobb in The Penguin, but co-star Cristin Milioti lost out to Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country).

Kathryn Hahn was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along, but Jean Smart picked up the award for Hacks.

Deadpool and Wolverine was nominated in the recently-added Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, along with the likes of Alien: Romulus Twisters and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but Wicked skipped away with the gong.

Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner still haven’t made their red carpet debut as a couple, but they are not hiding their relationship whatsoever.

The 29-year-old actor and the 27-year-old reality star were seen sitting together in the audience at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

They sat with Timothee‘s A Complete Unknown co-stars Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro, as well as Elle‘s sister Dakota Fanning.

Kylie was seen on camera right at the beginning of the show when host Nikki Glaser roasted Timothee during her opening monologue.

Nikki joked, “Timothee Chalamet, you have the most gorgeous eyelashes — on your upper lip. That is such a good look. I read that your singing voice [in A Complete Unknown] that even Bob Dylan admitted that it was absolutely horrible.

Directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan in her directorial debut, The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning as a young woman named Mina, who is visiting Ireland only to become stranded in a forest inhabited by mysterious creatures that appear at night. Seeking shelter, Mina finds herself trapped in a bunker with three strangers who have been imprisoned for several years and must do whatever she can to survive.

The movie was produced by M. Night Shyamalan, who has gained notoriety and criticism in the movie industry for his trademark of using twist endings in many of his works. His daughter, Ishana, continues the trademark in her first movie as a director. While it received a mixed reception upon release, The Watchers has seen streaming success on Netflix, ranking in the top 10 most-watched films.

Netflix's The Perfect Couple cast is jam-packed with A-list actors who help shape the Nantucket-based murder mystery. The miniseries is an onscreen adaptation of the eponymous book by New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. The Perfect Couple centers on the wedding of Amelia Sachs and Benji Winbury at the Winbury estate in Nantucket. The night before the event, a murder occurs, raising suspicions about the entire Winbury family.

Murder mystery shows often focus on rich and privileged characters with morally questionable personalities. It is all the more riveting when these shows include an all-star cast. That is certainly the case with The Perfect Couple. Even the actors who don't have name recognition have dozens of credits under their belt, except for a few younger actors. The impressive cast in The Perfect Couple helps create a story filled with morally dubious characters pursuing their own self-interests at any cost.

Dakota Fanning is spending some time with producer David Bernard and this isn’t the first time they’ve been spotted together.

The 30-year-old actress was seen on a coffee run along Melrose Place with David on Thursday afternoon (January 2) in Los Angeles.

Dakota and David were previously spotted going for a hike together back in April 2023.

David is a producer who has worked on HBO shows like The White Lotus and White House Plumbers, as well as movies such as Uncharted and Immaculate. He also worked on TV comedies like Jury Duty, Superstore, and The Bold Type. He’s been nominated for three Emmy Awards and won one for The White Lotus.

Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut follows a mysterious woman who, after becoming stranded in the Irish forest, joins an isolated group that is stalked by dangerous creatures. Though The Watchers’ reviews are incredibly mixed, they admit the movie’s strange allure and excellent adaptation of Irish folklore.

Following his father’s footsteps, Night Shyamalan presents a story featuring many twists, suspense, and a larger conspiracy that ties everything together. Despite The Watchers’ ending having a bit of an infamous reputation, it does successfully set up a sequel, which could be based on A. M. Shine’s second book. Notably, The Watchers’ cast is the thriller’s strongest aspect, with Fanning’s character, Mina, benefiting from the actress’ commanding and multilayered on-screen presence and her extensive experience in the genre.

Dakota Fanning (The Watchers) and The Strangers director Bryan Bertino are teaming up for a horror movie called Vicious, which is coming our way from Paramount Pictures… but we don’t know when Paramount is going to decide to show it to us. Originally set to receive a theatrical release from Paramount in August of 2025, Vicious was pushed up to February 28th – but now, Deadline reports that the film has been pulled off of Paramount’s release schedule completely. They say, “The studio is looking to find a better date for the film.”

Scripted by Bertino, Vicious sees Fanning taking on the role of a young woman who is left a strange present by a late-night visitor, and quickly realizes she is fighting for her life after slipping down a disturbing rabbit hole contained inside the gift.

Tarantino actually wanted Lawrence to play Daisy Domergue, the ruthless, sharp-tongued outlaw at the heart of his gritty western flick. But alas, scheduling demons struck hard.

Tarantino, a self-proclaimed huge Jennifer Lawrence fan, wasn’t just casually thinking about it. He told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan. I think I’ve been on record of saying that her and David O. Russell’s relationship is very William Wyler-Bette Davis-like, and that’s a good thing to be like. And I can see her doing a good job with this role, so we went to talk about it and everything.” That’s some serious admiration right there. But reality? Reality laughed in Tarantino’s face.

Lawrence was swamped with Joy, The Hunger Games press marathon, and just about every blockbuster-related obligation under the sun.

Dakota Fanning (Watchers) is next teaming up with director Bryan Bertino for the horror movie Vicious, but Paramount has shifted its release date yet again, per Deadline.

Vicious was initially slated for August 8, 2025 before getting moved up to February 28, 2025. Now, Bertino’s film is currently undated as the studio is looking to find a better date for the film.

Not much is known about Vicious just yet, but the plot follows “a young woman who must spend the night fighting for her existence as she slips down a disturbing rabbit hold contained inside a mysterious gift from a late-night visitor.”

Kathryn Hunter, Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, and Devyn Nekoda also star.

Bryan Bertino wrote the script and will be directing the film, an Atlas Independent production. Melinda Whitaker serves as executive producer, with Richard Suckle also producing.

Paramount is moving up The Running Man out of the Nov. 21, 2025 corridor which is where it was up against Wicked: For Good, to Nov. 7, 2025.

Paramount will also have access to Imax screens which is a big plus.

This leaves a spot open for a male-skewing film.

They also set a release date for the Dave Franco and McKenna Grace movie Regretting You for Oct. 24, 2025. What’s the big deal here? It’s a Colleen Hoover feature adaptation, people.

In addition, Paramount has a hold on Jan. 15, 2027 for an untitled tentpole in Imax.

The studio is also pulling Vicious off the calendar, its previous date being Feb. 28, 2025. That’s the Bryan Bertino directed and written horror film starring Dakota Fanning. The studio is looking to find a better date for the film.

When actors Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson were getting ready to film “Nickel Boys,” they had no hesitation getting onboard with director RaMell Ross’s vision of telling the story through their characters’ literal point of view, the only slight concern in the back of their minds was “I hope my friends and family don’t hear this and are like, ‘Oh, wait, so you’re not in the movie?’,” said Herisse over breakfast in the corner of a restaurant within a West Hollywood hotel.

Wilson’s mother’s reaction was more explicitly concerned, with the actor having done a found footage film not too long before “Nickel Boys” where “I was very much the cameraman for a lot of it,” he said. His response to his mom: “I’m not sure, but it’s probably going to be good, though.”
