Ford CEO Jim Farley raised eyebrows when he revealed he drives a Xiaomi SUZ7 Ev, made in China, as opposed to a vehicle from his own company.
In an interview on Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged Show, which focuses on electric vehicles, Farley admitted he had been driving his new wheels for a few months and, “I don’t want to give it up.”
He shared, “I don’t like talking about the competition so much, but I drive the Xiaomi…We flew one from Shanghai to Chicago.”

San Francisco, June 23 (Ians) US automaker Ford is preparing to cut more jobs as it directs more investments towards building electric vehicles (EVs).
The fresh layoffs could be announced as soon as next week, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The company laid off about 3,000 employees in August last year.
Ford CEO Jim Farley has said that the automaker has more work to do than its competitors to get costs in line.
“Ford Motor is preparing to initiate another round of layoffs in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the matter, the latest in a broader effort by the automaker to streamline operations and reduce costs,” the report mentioned.
Last month, Ford Motor reached an agreement with Elon Musk-run Tesla that will provide Ford electric vehicle customers access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US and Canada, doubling the number of fast-chargers available to Ford Ev...

San Francisco, May 26 (Ians) US automaker Ford has reached an agreement with its rival Elon Musk-run Tesla that will give Ford Ev customers access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the US and Canada, starting early next year.
This is in addition to the over 10,000 DC fast-chargers that are already part of the ‘BlueOval Charge Network’.
“This is great news for our customers who will have unprecedented access to the largest network of fast-chargers in the US and Canada with more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers plus over 10,000 fast-chargers already in the BlueOval Charge Network,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO.
This breakthrough agreement comes as “we are ramping up production of our popular Mustang Mach-e and F-150 Lightning, and preparing to launch a series of next-generation EVs starting in 2025,” he said in a statement late on Thursday.

Jim Cramer has crowed Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk as the future King of California.
Cramer, speaking Thursday on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” made the proclamation in light of the Golden State’s pending ban in 2035 on gas-powered vehicles — and the electric car company’s streak of dominance.
“It’s going to be a state of Teslas unless Jim Farley can get that F-150 Lighting out,” Cramer said, referring to Ford’s CEO, in the segment you can watch at the top of this post. “He thinks he can do 600,000 run rate by the end of next year.”
But Cramer then reverted back to the main point, perhaps given the fact parking a large pick-up truck is no easy task in many parts of California.

San Francisco, Aug 23 (Ians) The US-based car maker Ford Motor has reportedly confirmed that it is laying off roughly 3,000 employees and contract workers, with the cuts primarily affecting staff in the US, Canada and India.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Ford sent an internal email to employees, saying it would begin notifying affected salaried and agency workers this week of the cuts.
About 2,000 of the targeted cuts will be salaried jobs at Dearborn, Michigan. The remaining 1,000 employees are working in contract positions with outside agencies, the company said.
The email, signed by Executive Chairman Bill Ford and Chief Executive Jim Farley, said Ford is changing the way it operates and redeploying resources as it embraces new technologies that were not previously core to its operations, such as developing advanced software for its vehicles.
The job cuts are effective September 1, a spokesman said.

Meanwhile, replying to an account on the microblogging platform Twitter on the matter, Musk wrote: “Thanks, but I already have one.”
This week, after touting the company’s move to more sustainable sources, Farley made a quick jab at his main rival in the Ev space, whom he has praised for helping spur the industry toward electric vehicles.
“We are really on a mission at Ford to lead an electric and digital revolution for many, not few…,” he was quoted as saying.

New Delhi, March 6 (Ians) As several carmakers bleed in the US and beyond, Tesla is profitable and according to Elon Musk, his electric car company and Ford are the only two carmakers in the US which have not gone bankrupt.
Tesla reported another profitable quarter as revenue hit $10.74 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020. In last year, Tesla achieved free cash flow of nearly $2.8 billion after spending more than $3 billion on building new factories and other expenditures.
US automaker Ford last month announced to more than double its investment in electric and autonomous vehicles to $29 billion. The automaker had previously committed to spend $11.5 billion on electrifying its vehicle lineup through 2022.
"Tesla & Ford are the only American carmakers not to have gone bankrupt out of 1000's of car startups. Prototypes are easy, production is hard & being cash flow positive is excruciating," Musk said in a tweet on Friday.

At a time when automakers have cut back on ad spending, Ford Motor Co. will rev its marketing engines for a unique commercial alliance with Walt Disney’s video properties.
The large U.S. advertiser intends to unveil its new line of Broncos with short films slated to be broadcast in the first commercial break of the 8 p.m. hour on Monday, July 13 on Disney’s ABC broadcast network and its ESPN and National Geographic cable outlets. The films will subsequently be made available for viewing on Hulu, the company’s ad-supported streaming service, on July 14.
Ad money from large auto companies has been harder to come by in recent weeks. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, automakers are among the marketers paring back their spending. The number of 30-second TV ads from car companies was off by as much as 56% during the weeks of May 4 and May 11, according to Kantar, a tracker of ad spending.

Jeanne Crain: Lighthearted movies vs. real life tragedies (photo: Madeleine Carroll and Jeanne Crain in ‘The Fan’) (See also: "Jeanne Crain: From ‘Pinky’ Inanity to ‘Margie’ Magic.") Unlike her characters in Margie, Home in Indiana, State Fair, Centennial Summer, The Fan, and Cheaper by the Dozen (and its sequel, Belles on Their Toes), or even in the more complex A Letter to Three Wives and People Will Talk, Jeanne Crain didn’t find a romantic Happy Ending in real life. In the mid-’50s, Crain accused her husband, former minor actor Paul Brooks aka Paul Brinkman, of infidelity, of living off her earnings, and of brutally beating her. The couple reportedly were never divorced because of their Catholic faith. (And at least in the ’60s, unlike the humanistic, progressive-thinking Margie, Crain was a “conservative” Republican who supported Richard Nixon.) In the early ’90s, she lost two of her...

HollywoodNews.com: The Leichtag Family Foundation has made a major gift that will enable the USC Shoah Foundation Institute to expand its Teacher Innovation Network, a program initiated in 2009 to advance the use of Holocaust eyewitness testimony across the curriculum to build 21st-century skills including digital literacy, critical thinking, and global awareness. “Our colleagues at partner organizations around the world are doing the vital work to train educators to teach about the Holocaust,” said Stephen D. Smith, USC Shoah Foundation Institute Executive Director.
“The Institute is building upon that work by adding a layer of training that not only equips teachers with the skills and tools to incorporate video testimony into their curricula, but also provides valuable digital literacy skills to both teachers and students.
