Patricia Field is one of those rare figures whose name evokes not just a person but a complete visual sensibility—a world of unashamed splendor, wild vitality, and the kind of sartorial daring that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with beige. Field has been a provocateur and a prophet for decades, dressing characters who have molded our cultural imaginations.
Carrie Bradshaw’s tutu from Sex and the City? That was Patricia. The chaotic, punk-inspired style of The Devil Wears Prada? Patricia again. She is more than just a costume designer; she is a storyteller who creates identities from fabric and sequins, reminding us that clothes are never just clothes—they are declarations, disguises, and wishes.
Michael Selditch’s documentary, Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field, aims to capture this essence: not just the woman but also the ethos she represents. Happy Clothes feels almost deceptively simple, bordering on whimsical,...

Although scarves may be accessories, they are essential and have their own category in most stores. Yes, they keep your neck and shoulders warm, but they also add dimensions to an outfit like no other accessory.
Many of the top movie moments are graced by scarves—they may even have revolved around them without us realizing it. There are probably hundreds of them out there, but here are our top five choices, from classics to contemporary.
5. Audrey Hepburn’s Stunning Red Scarf in Funny Face (1957)
The five-minute modeling montage of Greenwich Village intellectual turned model Jo Stockton (played by Audrey Hepburn) is an iconic scene.

Despite the film’s immense success, Tucci, now 63, revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that finding work afterward was difficult.
“After The Devil Wears Prada, I couldn’t get a job, and I didn’t quite understand that, but that’s just the way it was. So I went and did stuff that I didn’t necessarily want to do, but I did it,” Tucci shared while promoting his latest project, Conclave.

Under the direction of editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), he portrayed magazine art director Nigel Kipling in Prada, who assisted the lead heroine Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) in navigating the fast-paced fashion world.

Photo Credit: 20th Century Studios Does the devil still wear Prada? We may get a chance to find out, as Entertainment Weekly is reporting that all of the major players from the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada — including stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, along with the film’s original director, producer, and writer — are actively in talks for a sequel. Of course, the film was a huge hit, taking in $326 million worldwide, and it earned Streep one of her 21 Oscar nominations. Not surprisingly, Streep was a perfect fit for the role of fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, especially because the character represented the epitome of fashion. As Streep told us when the movie opened, she tends to be obsessive about all aspects of the characters she plays — including their wardrobe choices — so she took a very active role (alongside Oscar-nominated costume designer Patricia Field) in...

Looks like cerulean is coming back in style.
Producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are said to be back at work developing a sequel to the dishy 2006 hit “The Devil Wears Prada.” A deal has not been formally announced, but a recent reuniting of the three main stars, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt at the SAG Awards earlier this year showed that the troika seemed eager to fan the flames of buzz for a long-rumored second film. (Puck first reported this wisp of news.)
Supposedly the new film checks in with Streep’s Miranda Priestly, who still runs the fashion magazine “Runway,” but now has to navigate a brave new world of online publishing, and, no doubt, social media influencers. Blunt’s Emily Charlton is now the head of a fashion brand that advertises with “Runway.” Whether Hathaway’s character winds up back in the mix is unclear,...

Looks like legacy sequels aren't just for action blockbusters.
According to Puck News (and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter), a sequel to 2006's "The Devil Wears Prada" is currently in development. Aline Brosh McKenna, screenwriter of the original film, will reportedly pen this follow-up, which is being spearheaded by original "The Devil Wears Prada" producer Wendy Finerman. Deadline reports that the original film's director, David Frankel, is also in talks to return.
Reports at this time indicate that the original film's main cast have not locked deals to return yet. However, reported story details indicate the script is being written with the intent of at least Streep and Blunt returning (more on that soon). Streep is the reason the original film came together, so (pure speculation here), without her there's probably no movie this time around.

Gird your loins. Miranda Priestly is set to deliver more withering glances in a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Disney is developing a sequel to the hit 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the high-powered fashion magazine editor from hell with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt as her harried assistants Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton.
The original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to return to pen the next chapter. Who from the original cast will return is not clear, but the storyline reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s dishy 2003 novel about a young woman’s nightmarish experience working at a fashion magazine (Weisberger worked as a personal assistant...

And Just Like That... recontextualizes key aspects of Sex and the City, bringing changes and encouraging nostalgia for the original series. For example, the original show's costumes stand out more due to the absence of the original costume designer in And Just Like That... The outcome of romances in the revival makes the original storylines more tragic and frustrating to watch as well.

Every Sex and the City fan will instantly recognize two high-wattage looks up for sale in the latest event presented by Julien’s Auctions — one piece worn onscreen by series star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker — as they’ve transcended the function of costumes or fashion to become part of the show’s enduring iconography.
“Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” is indeed an apt title for an upcoming auction that includes the three-tiered belted tutu skirt worn by Parker in Satc‘s opening credits (and again in the 2008 movie). The skirt was famously purchased by the show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, who discovered the piece in a $5 bargain bin and fashioned it into one of the most-recognized looks in the series.

The announcement of And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City reboot, in 2020, was initially met with excitement by fans of the original series. Then, a series of disappointments came their way. First, Kim Cattrall was not asked to reprise her role as Samantha Jones, and then it was revealed Patricia Field would not return as the stylist on the show. Field had served as the stylist for the original series and both movies. After Field opted out, the show’s fans assumed a feud was going on. As it turns out, that wasn’t the case. Field opted out of serving as a stylist on the reboot for a completely mundane reason. She was already booked.

Kim Cattrall’s decision not to return for “And Just Like That…” surprised many fans. Samantha was a beloved character known for her bold personality and iconic one-liners. However, Cattrall has expressed that she is ready to move on from the role and explore new opportunities in her career.
So when news broke that Cattrall would return for a second-season finale cameo, Sex and the City fans were stoked. However, when HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys approached the beloved actor, she had several stipulations. These stipulations revealed just how deep the rift between Cattrall and her old cast mates runs.

"Sex and the City," for all of its imperfections (and there are many), is one of the most groundbreaking series in television history. Before "Satc," being single was almost universally depicted as being one of the worst possible things a woman could be. Tropes like spinsters, shrews, and sluts were seen as a death sentence, and single women were defined by their journey to becoming someone's wife and mother.
But then, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) defied the status quo and introduced the revolutionary idea that "maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with." For six seasons, "Sex and the City" let women in their 30s be messy, vulgar, and oh-so-very sexy. I was "the Miranda" in my own friend group, and "Sex and the City" was a sleepover staple...

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” gave way to “Rhoda”; “Cheers” eventually brought us “Frasier.” Could the legacy of “And Just Like That” be the London-set dramedy “Samantha”?
Yes, it’s unlikely; a potential spinoff based on the ongoing adventures of Kim Cattrall’s character from “And Just Like That” and “Sex and the City” necessitates the participation of, well, Cattrall, who’s been very clear that her cameo on the “Ajlt” finale was a once-ever thing. But that cameo, too, once seemed unlikely-to-impossible, given the haze of bad feeling between Cattrall and her former castmates. And on “Samantha,” just like Frasier in Seattle, she’d get to make a whole new set of friends!
I’m being facetious, but only a little. I agree with my colleague Alison Herman that Samantha’s cameo was electric, and I’d go further: It provided a much-needed jolt for an episode of television that at times felt lugubrious.

Kim Cattrall’s cameo in “And Just Like That” may have been brief, but it’s struck a chord with viewers. Fans of the “Sex and the City” spinoff took to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, to gush over Samantha Jones’ return.
Samantha’s return happens at the beginning of Season 2’s “The Last Supper Part Two: Entree.” As Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) prepares her apartment for her big dinner party, she gets a call from one of her oldest friends. That’s when the London-based Samantha reveals she planned to surprise Carrie at her dinner party but due to a three-hour flight delay, she won’t be able to make the event.
Though the scene only lasts a couple minutes, Samantha drops the word “fabulous” repeatedly and is shown in a stunning number from costume designer Patricia Field. “And Just Like That” viewers were quick to sing her parises.

And just like that, Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) has returned to our TV screens. After being notably absent from the first season of "Sex and the City" revival series "And Just Like That" on Max, Cattrall returned for a brief cameo in the season two finale. Variety broke the news of her cameo on May 31, and Cattrall herself confirmed it was happening the next day. "Happy Pride," she captioned a screenshot of the article on Instagram, adding rainbow and Pride flag emoji.
Cattrall spoke about her return to the world of "Sex and the City" during a June interview on "Today," telling hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, "People will be so happy," regarding her "short scene" in "And Just Like That" season two. Of revisiting Samantha, she said, "It felt like dipping my toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon, and then a great martini."

Before “And Just Like That” Season 2 even premiered, one name has dominated this installment of the Max sequel series: Samantha. And in the first moments of “The Last Supper Part Two: Entree” Kim Cattrall’s highly anticipated return to the “Sex and the City” universe finally happens.
The episode starts with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) returning to her apartment, fancy napkins in tow, as she prepares for her big dinner party. After cheerfully greeting her kitten, Carrie gets a phone call from none other than Samantha Jones (Cattrall). But rather than the iciness and stilted conversations that surrounded Samantha in Season 1, Carrie greets Sam like they talk all the time, answering with “What’s shaking, lady?”
Immediately, Samantha launches into crisis mode and spoils her own big surprise: She was planning to attend Carrie’s last supper. Not only that but Samantha planned to fly in solely for the dinner...

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t seen the season 2 finale of “And Just Like That”, proceed with caution.
Back and more fabulous than ever! Though her cameo was brief, Samantha Jones returned in all her glory to the “Sex and the City” universe in Thursday’s season 2 finale of the Max reboot, “And Just Like That”.
Fans didn’t have to wait long for the much-discussed appearance from original star Kim Cattrall as it happened in the episode’s first five minutes. In the scene, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) walked into her old apartment to prepare for her “Last Supper” meal when she received a phone call from Sam, who is living her best PR boss lady life abroad in London.

Max officially renewed And Just Like That… ahead of its much-anticipated season two finale which will feature the return of Kim Cattrall as Samantha. Season two episode 11 – part two of “The Last Supper” – finally delivers the cameo fans of the original foursome have eagerly anticipated.
Even though Samatha won’t be sharing scenes with her former Sex and the City co-stars, Cattrall will be seen in a cameo, styled by Patricia Field and shot in secret. In an interview on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Kim Cattrall confirmed that shopping in Bergdorf’s and picking out a great outfit for her cameo felt like dipping her toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon.
However, fans shouldn’t expect Kim Cattrall back for the just-announced third season. It seems this short cameo is a one-off and not a precursor to an extended return as Samantha.

Carrie Bradshaw was always known for her innovative and off-the-wall style. During Sex and the City, Carrie experimented with different looks. She wore dresses, shorts, skirts, jeans, and even a bandeau or two. Designer garments were mixed with vintage pieces, and her look evolved over time. One thing was a constant, though. Because Sex and the City was shot in perpetual spring, Carrie often wore sleeveless tops. And Just Like That… has brought many changes to the Sex and the City universe, and Carrie’s style is one of those changes. Now a 50-something widow, Carrie has mostly abandoned her sleeveless style options and is opting to wear long-sleeved dresses, visually interesting overcoats, and even a cape.
Carrie Bradshaw’s sleeveless wardrobe seems to be a thing of the past
Carrie Bradshaw has returned to her old apartment and found comfort in old friends. She keeps her old clothes around too.

The millennial women-led series is dead. Long live the millennials.
It wasn’t exactly surprising when Freeform’s beloved critically acclaimed “Single Drunk Female” was canceled this month after just two seasons and immediately pulled from Hulu. Sure, Freeform touted the sitcom as the highest-rated original comedy during the New York City Season 2 premiere before the series returned with all new episodes on Hulu in April. But its cancellation is just one of the many reminders that networks don’t invest long-term in women-fronted shows that focus on “messy” millennial women.
While we pour one out for “Single Drunk Female,” it’s best to trace the series back to its roots with Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner’s explosively disruptive HBO series “Girls,” which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. After that massive hit, why has TV abandoned the generation of people who grew up watching “Girls”?

Kim Cattrall will return to the And Just Like That… storyline, albeit briefly in a cameo, toward the end of season 2. Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Cynthia Nixon have all discussed the cameo. While no one is giving away exactly what the exchange will be about, Parker recently hinted that it will come at an important moment in Carrie’s life.

While Kim Cattrall was not initially asked to return for And Just Like That…, it looks like Max wanted the star to appear at least briefly. She eventually agreed, but the cameo isn’t set to be anything big. In fact, Cattrall, who famously portrayed Samantha for all six seasons of the series, allegedly refused to be on set with her former co-stars or showrunner, Michael Patrick King.

And just like that, Kim Cattrall has put an expiration date on Samantha.
The “Sex and the City” icon confirmed that her upcoming cameo in revival series “And Just Like That” will be her last appearance as PR maven Samantha Jones.

Cattrall added, though, “I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to Samantha. She’s like a lot of other characters that I’ve done over the years. I get very emotionally attached and protective of my characters. She gave me so much, and I’m so appreciative of her.”

Kim Cattrall wasn’t interested in returning to the Sex and the City franchise, unless she’d be allowed to do so in style.
During an appearance on The View, where she was ostensibly promoting her new Netflix series Glamorous, Cattrall dished about the call that she received from HBO about appearing on And Just Like That and the things that she needed, including the involvement of famed costume designer Patricia Field, to get to “yes.”
As The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, Cattrall’s cameo as Samantha Jones in the second season finale came about after she was approached by HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys, who also approached showrunner Michael Patrick King about the prospect of having the character return. King then wrote her cameo scene — which was filmed with a limited crew and without any interaction with her co-stars — into the finale.

Keeping things fresh in a series when it has had a long run can be hard, but Kim Cattrall made sure to find ways to do just that in Sex and the City‘s six seasons.
During an appearance at a live taping of The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast as a part of the Tribeca Film Festival, Cattrall opened up about how she finds it thrilling to break constraints in her life. When asked if she could share any specific scenarios where she did that, the actress recalled a time on Satc.
“I was always trying to find a new and different way for Samantha to fall on the bed,” Cattrall said of her character. “That was kind of a joke, but I was sincere about it because they kept it fresh, not just for an audience but also for me.”

When she won a Golden Globe for “The Devil Wears Prada,” Meryl Streep said it best about what the role of costume design could be in moving pictures while thanking costume designer Patricia Field: “That was like special effects for our movie.”

Kristin Davis recently told The Telegraph that she will not waste energy on the drama surrounding Kim Cattrall and “Sex and the City.” Variety exclusively reported in May that Cattrall would appear in the second season of Max’s “Sex and the City” sequel series “And Just Like That” in a cameo role.
The announcement was something of a bombshell for “Sex and the City” fans, as Cattrall publicly announced in 2016 that she was done playing her character, Samantha, when she didn’t feel like the script for a proposed third film did justice to the character. Her decision to step away from Samantha led to a public fallout with Sarah Jessica Parker, who continues to play Carrie Bradshaw on “And Just Like That.”
When The Telegraph asked Davis, who reprises her “Sex and the City” role of Charlotte York on “And Just Like That,” if any member of the cast speaks to Cattrall,...

When Variety broke the news that Kim Cattrall will reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones for a cameo in the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” I couldn’t help but wonder… is there anything that could thrill a “Sex and the City” fan more?
The answer is yes: the HBO show’s 25th anniversary experience in New York City, as put on by Max, to celebrate Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha and — possibly most important — all of their stunning clothes.
Formally titled “And Just Like That…It’s Been 25 Years, A Sex and the City Experience,” the event will be open June 8-June 11, but Variety and other members of the press were let into Carrie’s closet early Thursday to explore.

The Tribeca Festival excised “Film” from its name in 2021, and while it’s true that the annual celebration of all things entertainment has expanded to include plenty of television and immersive programming, the movies make it a must-attend event. This year’s lineup is no exception. It has big-name actors such as Michael Shannon and Jennifer Esposito trying their hand at directing, along with revelatory performances from stars like Nick Jonas. But what makes Tribeca so exciting is that it’s a springboard for bold new voices. As the fest gets ready to kick off on June 7, here are nine movies not to be missed.

Just a few short days ago we wrote with delight that Kim Cattrall would make a surprise, short appearance in the second season of Max’s “Sex and the City” sequel, “And Just Like That.” Few could have predicted this, as she and the series star Sarah Jessica Parker have been pretty open about their fractured relationship, and that Cattrall’s character was effectively written out in the first season.
Someone else who learned about Cattrall’s involvement from a story just like ours (maybe even ours!) was “Sex and the City” and “And Just Like That” star Evan Handler, who plays Kristen Davis’s husband Harry. “I learned it the same day you did,” he said in an interview with “People.”
He confirmed that Cattrall’s short performance—a phone call—was produced like a surgical strike. “Apparently, [her cameo] was shot in the garage somewhere with no contact with anybody,...
