The film is scheduled for release in the U.S. and Canada on Friday, September 19, 2025. Vmi Worldwide is handling international sales at the Cannes market.

Directed and written by Bill Fishman (Tapeheads), Waltzing with Brando is based on the published memoir by Los Angeles architect Bernard Judge, who was hired by Brando in the late 1960s to design an ecologically self-sustaining retreat on a remote and uninhabitable atoll in Tahiti. What begins as an architectural experiment becomes an eccentric and emotional journey into isolation, celebrity, and the limits of utopian idealism.

You can check out the trailer below, in which Zane bears a striking resemblance to screen icon Brando.

'Waltzing With Brando's Director "Can't Think of Any Scene That Was Fictitious" — Even That Eel Scene
Image
Viewers are in for a delightful, comedic, and downright strange ride with Bill Fishman's Waltzing With Brando. The long-gestating indie flick stars Billy Zane as legendary Oscar winner Marlon Brando at the height of his powers around the release of The Godfather and Last Tango in Paris. Rather than focus on his career, however, it pulls from architect Bernard Judge's memoir of the same name and follows the actor's efforts alongside Judge to plan out the perfect paradise on a small, uninhabited island in Tahiti. The film offers another eccentric side of Brando that few people get to see as it tracks his and Judge's evolving relationship and understanding of how to build an ecological marvel that keeps the natural beauty of the island alive. Fishman assures, too, that everything down to its wildest scenes are accurate depictions of real anecdotes.

"It's Kind of Kismet": Billy Zane Reveals How He Became Involved With 'Waltzing with Brando' [Exclusive]
Image
There's a process by which every actor is cast in a film or television series, yet some stories are wilder than others. For Billy Zane, the process of being cast as an uncanny Marlon Brando lookalike in Bill Fishman's Waltzing With Brando felt like the stars aligning after years in the industry. Known for his past roles in Titanic and The Phantom, he portrays a very different side of the legendary The Godfather Oscar winner in the biopic through the lighthearted story about Brando's efforts to create the perfect Tahitian island escape. In an interview with Collider's Aidan Kelley at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, he opened up about how the history between him and the director, his love for Brando's Tahiti era, and pure happenstance came together to land him in what he described as a "dream role."...

'Waltzing With Brando' Director Details His Next Potential Biopic About a President and a Famous Author [Exclusive]
Image
Bill Fishman may be staying in the realm of biopics for his next project after spending time in the world of Marlon Brando. His latest, Waltzing With Brando, adapts Bernard Judge's memoir of the same name and lightheartedly follows Billy Zane as an uncanny lookalike of the Godfather star through some of his greatest roles while he plans a paradise getaway in Tahiti. Rather than unpack the on-screen side of the actor that everyone knows, the film instead shines a light on Brando's other personality traits through his relationship with Judge, the architect roped into his grand island getaway plan. It's still making the rounds at film festivals, but the director confirmed he already has two more subjects he wants to track the relationship between.

If it sounds barmy, then that's nothing compared to how it looks — just check out the extraordinary trailer for Bill Fishman’s film below:

First-Look Images Reveal That Billy Zane Looks Exactly Like Marlon Brando in Upcoming Biopic
Image
Marlon Brando is an icon of cinema. Whether you like him or not, he is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most talented actors we’ve ever seen. He had the pathos; he had the ability to take on the most complex of roles, and that earned him the status of a proper icon.

Well, that and his amazing roles, which include films such as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, On the Waterfront, Last Tango in Paris, and many more.

But Brando’s private life was as dynamic as his career. The actor was known as a problematic person with a difficult personality, which made it hard to work with him on more than one occasion. All of this got even more difficult as Brando got older, and by the time he reached old age, more people wanted to avoid him than work with him.

And while Brando’s life deserves a whole series,...

Mike Beckingham to Star With Billy Zane in ‘Waltzing With Brando’ (Exclusive)
Mike Beckingham
Rising star Mike Beckingham will star in “Waltzing With Brando” alongside Billy Zane, who plays a “Godfather”-era Marlon Brando in the upcoming movie.

Beckingham, younger brother of actor, writer and producer Simon Pegg, will play Bernard Judge in the comedic feature, which is set in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Judge was an idealistic L.A. architect selected by Brando and tasked with building the world’s first ecologically perfect retreat on a tiny Tahitian island that had been thought uninhabitable.

The picture is based upon Judge’s memoir, which recounts his relationship with Brando and his work with the enigmatic star on the designs for the would-be island getaway.

British actor Beckingham’s credits include horror pic “Redwood” and supernatural movie “Black Site.” In 2020 he will be seen in “The Host,” with Derek Jacobi and Dutch actor Maryam Hassouni, and British sci-fi film “G-Loc” alongside Stephen Moyer...

Fallout takes on 'Dolemite' redo
Fallout Entertainment has acquired the rights to remake the 1975 blaxploitation action comedy Dolemite.

Company principal Bill Fishman is slated to direct from a screenplay being written by Jeff Hause and David Hines. The film will be produced by Warren Zide.

Dolemite -- inspired by a character created by comedian-writer-producer Rudy Ray Moore during the 1970s -- is an ex-con who, in attempting to regain control of his nightclub, is joined by a squad of "kung-fu fighting girls" and other allies as he goes up against all who stand in his way. Moore will executive produce and might have a role in the remake.

"I think there is a certain sincerity in the original that is kind of undeniable," Fishman said. "(Moore's) a cult figure and a luminary. ... He's an original.

(We are) giving enough respect to the original and building on it," the helmer added. "We are going to use some of the original one liners. (Moore's) eminently quotable."

The production company is in the initial stages of casting and has had discussions with several stars of comedy and hip-hop, including Snoop Dogg.
