Robert is the Executive Artistic Director Emeritus of Actors Theatre of Louisville. He was honored for his transformative leadership in the American Theatre. A director, choreographer, writer, and actor, he has worked in many of the leading resident theaters across the country including Arena Stage where he was previously the Director of Artistic Programming (2014-2016), Cleveland Play House as Associate Artistic Director (2016-2019), The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The NYSF/ Public Theatre, The Mark Taper Forum, San Jose Rep, The Folger, The Guthrie, The La Jolla Playhouse, A Contemporary Theatre, The Old Globe, Perseverance Theatre, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Repertory and The Goodman. Robert was in the Broadway shows Stand-Up Tragedy and Ragtime and the original production of George C. Wolfe's Jelly's Last Jam. He was an associate producer for the NYC revival of Tennessee Williams' The Two-Character Play starring Amanda Plummer and Brad Dourif. Formerly an Associate Professor and Chair of the Theatre Arts and Performance Studies Department at the University of San Diego.
