Alice Lowe and Nick Frost in Timestalker. Courtesy of Level 33 Entertainment
Alice Lowe has garnered a couple of dozen awards and nominations for her work on both sides of the camera, including some for this fantasy dramedy, Timestalker, in which she wears the three main hats of writer, director and star. And wears them pretty well.
Lowe stars as Agnes, who lives a number of very different lives, from low-born in the 1600s, to rich and privileged in 1973, to middle class in more modern times. Her name and face remain the same, as do people playing a variety of roles in each of her incarnations. Nick Frost is a loutish husband in one and a stalker in another. Tanya Reynolds’ Meg may arise as a servant or friend in Agnes’ sequential rebirths; Jacob Anderson crops up in assorted supportive capacities. One constant is the emergence of a handsome guy...

Finding love can be difficult. Facing rejection can be even more difficult, no matter what time we live in. Alice Lowe’s “Timestalker” analyses these concerns through the eyes of a woman who yearns to be with the man of her dreams. However, no matter what time she lives in, she struggles to be with him. In this time-hopping tale of romance, she finds herself in different eras constantly trying to be with this exact person. However, she gets pulled back into her reality, which is rarely as flattering as she hopes it to be.
Alice Lowe leads this zany tragicomedy as Agnes, who finds herself seemingly reincarnated across four timelines. The first of them is in 17th-century Scotland, where she sacrifices her life for a charming man, whom she falls for at first sight. Almost a century later, she finds herself in England, married to Nick Frost’s George.

Fans of the original animated How to Train Your Dragon film waiting to see how the live-action version separates itself will have to wait a while longer. The full trailer for the reimagined live-action/CGI adaptation looks pretty much like the original film, although it is fun to see Gerard Butler fully embrace Stoick the Vast in the flesh.
Mason Thames stars as Toothless’ Bff, Hiccup. The cast also includes Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur. The original film’s writer and director, Dean DeBlois, returns in those capacities for the new take on Cressida Cowell’s bestselling book series.
DeBlois also serves as a producer along with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel.

The new trailer and poster for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon have finally been unleashed (via SFFGazette.com), and all signs point to the movie doing right by the beloved DreamWorks Animation classic...by not being all that different from it.
Toothless looks amazing, as do the rest of the dragons that take centre stage here. All signs point to this being an epic fantasy movie in its own right, and regardless of how much the original How to Train Your Dragon achieved on screen in 2010, the visuals showcased in this sneak peek are on a completely different level.
In terms of the human characters, it appears as if we can expect their personality and relationships to be better fleshed out in this reimagining. Filmmaker Dean DeBlois confirmed that was a priority during a recent interview with The Wrap.

Dean DeBlois wrote and directed all three of the animated How to Train Your Dragon movies, which were inspired by the series of books by written by Cressida Cowell. Now DeBlois has written, directed, and produced a live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon – and when we shared the Super Bowl teaser for the film a few days ago, it came with the promise that the full trailer would be dropping on Wednesday. How to Train Your Dragon focuses on the special friendship between a young and unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup, and Toothless, an injured dragon he nurses back to health. The movies chronicled Hiccup and Toothless’ quest to combat humanity’s prejudice against dragons, the ache of overcoming the loss of a parent, and first love.

The live-action How to Train Your Dragon has unveiled its trailer, and the movie’s director is grateful for the chance to tell his story in a fresh way.
After debuting an excerpt during Super Bowl Lix, Universal Pictures released the full trailer ahead of the film hitting theaters June 13. The live-action feature is a remake of DreamWorks Animation’s hit animated movie of the same name that was released in 2010.
Writer-director Dean DeBlois’ new How to Train Your Dragon stars Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid. Rounding out the cast are Gerard Butler, Nick Frost and Julian Dennison. DeBlois, who has been involved with the franchise since its start, wrote and directed the new project that is based on the 2010 animated film he co-directed with Chris Sanders.
During a trailer-unveiling event that was attended by The Hollywood Reporter, DeBlois discussed the origins of the new movie.

Dean DeBlois is getting ready to show off footage from his live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.” But he wants to explain some things first.
The filmmaker — an animation legend who made “Lilo & Stitch” and the original “How to Train Your Dragon” with Chris Sanders and directed two more “How to Train Your Dragon” installments for DreamWorks Animation on his own — had flirted with live-action filmmaking before. He had sold a number of spec scripts, including “Sightings,” which would have beaten “Stranger Things” to the Spielbergian punch by a good decade. But none of those materialized. Now, with “How to Train Your Dragon” (2025), he finally has his shot.
“I myself am not a huge fan of the animation-to-live-action trend,” DeBlois admitted to TheWrap from an edit bay on the Universal Studios lot. “Universal wanted to revisit this story. It’s like, ‘We’re going to do it. Let...

Speaking to Variety, the duo revealed what it was like to work with Lucasfilm, where Jod Na Nawood stands as a Force-user, and how Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau feel about introducing At Attin to the Star Wars galaxy.
When asked how Lucasfilm collaborated with the duo on creating At Attin, which significantly alters Star Wars canon, the duo revealed they were initially hesitant. However, Lucasfilm was "so open to it." Ford explained their reluctance to change Star Wars but mentioned they were encouraged to explore further and told to "make up your own thing." While Disney has had no problem going back to some of their biggest animated hits to transform them into live-action movies, that only forces the hand of other studios to do the same. It’s your time to fly, Hiccup.
A new teaser for “How to Train Your Dragon,” the live action adaptation of the acclaimed animated series, made its debut during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9. The teaser is a high-flying spectacle that remains true to the look of the animated original film from 2010 while making everything else much more photorealistic.
In a teaser from November, we got to see the young Viking Hiccup (Mason Thames) as he encounters an especially rare, mythical dragon he comes to name Toothless. The design of Toothless and that scene in particular is strikingly similar to the first meeting between character and dragon in the original animated film, though with some touched up animation and CGI from the VFX house Framestore. The new trailer offers a more in-depth look at some of the action, humor, and heart that the original had in spades.

You can depend on a few things happening during the Super Bowl – two titans of football colliding (in this case the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles), commercials featuring big-time movie stars and, of course, movie trailers for some of the year’s most highly anticipated titles.
And this year, Super Bowl Lix was no different.
If you’re looking for all of the Super Bowl trailers in one place, we’ve got you covered, with an updated list below.
“Jurassic World Rebirth”
Sure, a new “Jurassic World Rebirth” spot aired before kick-off, but we aren’t holding that against them. This new “Jurassic World” installment, the first since 2022’s “Jurassic World Dominion” closed off that trilogy, features Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend. But we’re really pumped that this installment is bringing back writer David Koepp, who adapted Michael Crichton’s novel for Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,...

But we’re really pumped that this installment is bringing back writer David Koepp, who adapted Michael Crichton’s novel for Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,...

Live-action remakes aren’t just Disney’s anymore. Universal debuted a full look at the reimagining of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved “How to Train Your Dragon” during the Super Bowl, releasing a stirring new trailer after a spot during the NFL championship game.
Like the original film from 2010, this remake follows the isle of Berk, where vikings and dragons have long been enemies. But when Hiccup (Mason Thames) goes against centuries of tradition to befriend Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, he disrupts the community and opens up new possibilities for both vikings and dragons alike. The teaser shows their initial meeting, with a wary Hiccup gently reaching out to touch Toothless on the snout, slowly earning his trust.
“I’m the first viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon,” Hiccup says.
And he’s rewarded for his decision. Together, Toothless and Hiccup soar through the sky, barreling past rocky cliffs and roaring oceans,...

The latest trailer for Universal's live-action update of "How to Train Your Dragon" is here, once again making us wonder: Why do we need this movie when the animated version is already great? The new footage offers no answers, but by dropping during Super Bowl Lix, it'll no doubt inspire a few million more people to ask the question.
Admittedly, this new installment in the franchise (which began with the cartoon feature of the same name in 2010) does have a few things going for it, including the return of original trilogy writer-director Dean DeBlois and an animation style that somehow manages to capture the overwhelming cuteness of its heroic black dragon, Toothless.
The first trailer for the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon," which dropped in November 2024 before screening in theaters with Universal's "Wicked," didn't stray from the original film much at all in terms of its visuals or plot beats.

Not that Disney invented live-action remakes of animated movies, but the studio largely popularized the concept. Disney started making $1 billion hits in the 2010s like Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" and it's been big business for them ever since. It was only natural that other studios would eventually follow suit. To that end, Universal and DreamWorks are bringing a live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" to theaters this summer. Whether or not it can live up to the original remains to be seen, but at least one of the movie's stars is impressed.
Gerard Butler voiced the Viking leader Stoick in the "How to Train Your Dragon" trilogy, and he's reprising the role in the remake. Even though most of the original voice cast has been replaced in the live-action version, Butler, with some makeup and the right costume, looked the part enough to be able to return.

For those who decided that studio flicks like "Madame Web" or "Rebel Moon" were among the worst film of 2024, do I have some good news for you: they weren't even close. Some brave critics, or even braver explorers of the deep trenches of 2024's cinematic offerings may have much more dire stories for you, telling tales of Neil Marshall's dumb actioner "The Duchess," or Sean McNamara's embarrassing deification of Ronald Reagan in "Reagan." Have you even heard of the Nick Frost horror sitcom spoof "Krazy House," or the Netflix Biblical drama "Mary"?
The above-mentioned films all have one thing in common: they were voted among the ten worst films of the year, as gauged by Metacritic. Metacritic, for those who don't visit the website, is a film review aggregator. The site gathers together multiple professionally written reviews and boils each one down to a score of one to...

The idea of animated features getting live-action remakes is nothing new, but the production of live-action remakes has obviously shifted into overdrive in recent years, with Disney bringing us the likes of Cinderella, The Jungle Book (again), Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid… the list goes on. And it seems like DreamWorks has been impressed by that animation-to-live-action business model, as they’re teaming up with Universal Pictures to bring a live-action remake of their 2010 animated feature How to Train Your Dragon to theatres on June 13, 2025. In anticipation of this release, we here at JoBlo have decided to put together a list of Everything We Know About the live-action How to Train Your Dragon… and here we go:

The Direct got to sit down with Gerard Butler as he was promoting his new film, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, and the subject of How to Train Your Dragon had been brought up. Butler will be starring in the new live-action version, which has the original’s director, Dean DeBlois, returning to the Viking world. When The Direct asked what Butler could tease, the action star said that this film will be a lot scarier than the original.
Butler expounded,
I made three of those movies over many years, and I always wondered, I love the animated movies, but I always wondered, ‘God, what if this was real? What if we were really there, real people, real dragons?’ And we had a chance to do that, to make it real. And I think that is one of the main differences. Nick Frost Says He, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright Will Still Be Making Buddy Comedies in Their Sixties
In another decade or so, the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy will gain a new taste. Who’s ready for some prune ice cream?
When Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost first started making comedy projects together in the late 1990s, the young bucks started with a surreal, roommate-focused sitcom called Spaced that ran for two seasons and earned the trio enough critical clout to eventually pull off one of the most ambitious and only-thematically-related film trilogies of all time, the aforementioned Three Flavours Cornetto series. Pegg is the senior-most member of the comedy collective, having been a decrepit 29 years old by the time Spaced premiered on U.K.’s Channel 4, but Frost believes that he can keep working that geezer until he’s absolutely ancient.
In a recent talk with The i Paper, Frost revealed that he “definitely” believes the Three Flavours Cornetto trio will reunite and continue...

It's been a couple of months since our first look at the live-action How To Train Your Dragon movie was released and a new minute-long trailer has just dropped (via Toonado.com) revealing more never-before-seen footage.
Not only are there some obvious improvements to the visuals (Toothless somehow looks even better than he did the first time), but we also get to see the dragons Stormfly and Hookfang and more of Hiccup's first meeting with his future best pal.
Even if How To Train Your Dragon is simply a shot-for-shot remake of the DreamWorks Animation classic, everything we see here looks suitably epic and there's a good chance this ends up being one of 2025's biggest hits.
Describing the movie as "a game-changer," Gerard Butler recently teased, "I can say it has just been a joy to be a part of these movies, to tell those stories, and see them being received by the public.

When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you…A new look at the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon has arrived, with the trailer showing the bond between Hiccup and Toothless in a way we haven’t seen before.
In the trailer (dubbed the “Warrior” trailer), we see Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (Mason Thames) being forced to slay a dragon. As he is about to plunge his weapon into the beast, it opens its eyes, immediately halting Hiccup and igniting a friendship that will challenge everything he has come to know about his Viking heritage and their enemies.

The actors shot to stardom together with a series of winning projects—most made with celebrated writer/director Edgar Wright—including the sitcom Spaced, the “zom-com” Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. Both actors have also thrived in their own rights, with Frost appearing in projects like Attack the Block, Truth Seekers, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Pegg in the Mission: Impossible series, the J.J. Skeleton Crew episode 8 solidifies the show as one of Star Wars' best, wrapping up the endearing story with ease. Since the show began, I have made it clear how easy the show is to enjoy. Not only is Skeleton Crew's cast of characters fleshed out, but the show understands that it does not need to be galaxy-altering to be a worthy addition to Star Wars canon. As of the Skeleton Crew episode 8's ending, this reality is more prevalent than ever thanks to the excellent conclusion of a mostly self-contained story.
Skeleton Crew follows four ordinary children who become lost in the expansive Star Wars galaxy. As they navigate unfamiliar worlds and the challenges they present, the group endeavors to find their way back to their home planet, undertaking a journey across the iconic Star Wars universe.

Here it is, folks. At long last, the 650th episode (if you don't count all the other episodes) of the Empire Podcast, recorded live on Friday January 10th in front of a sell-out crowd at our spiritual home of Kings Place, London, is here! And like the cast list of a new Nolan movie, this one's got more stars than a sizeable constellation, with not one, not two, not three, but Four (!) brilliant filmy folk joining us on stage. First up, Chris sits down with Get Away writer/star, Nick Frost; then Beth chats with Babygirl star Harris Dickinson, who is now on his second live show appearance; thirdly, Alex Godfrey pops up to have a natter with William Tell star, Claes Bang (and we all get mildly distracted by his coat); and fourthly, Helen has a chinwag with Joe Alwyn, star of Brady Corbet's epic Oscars frontrunner The Brutalist.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 7, “We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble,” ended with quite the cliffhanger.
The kid gloves are off as Jod Na Nawood has let the full pirate out. Capturing the children, he figures out that the Onyx Cinder is the key to getting through the Barrier around At Attin. Sneaking into the ship and taking over after decapitating Sm-33, he pretends to be a Republic Emissary upon landing on the planet. The group is taken underground, where they see the Old Republic Mint still active, and Jod finds over 1,000 vaults full of credits. He has his treasure. Wim, Fern, Neel, and Kb’s parents follow them down, and the kids are finally reunited with their loved ones. However, it’s short-lived as Jod menacingly approaches the families, igniting his lightsaber. What will happen to our heroes?
We have to watch to the season finale to find out.

From a screenplay by Nick Frost and directed by Steffen Haars, “Get Away” (2025) is a horror-comedy that stars Frost and Aisling Bea as the Smiths—a family of four going on a holiday to the island of Svalta in Sweden, with special interest on watching the Karantan, the eight-hour-long play arranged by the locals on the island. However, their arrival is met with open hostility by the locals, and strange events ensue on the island.

We’ll need to wait until June 13 for the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon, but a fresh image from the movie just dropped. USA Today shared the photo (see below) featuring Hiccup (played by Mason Thames) and Astrid (played by Nico Parker) readying for a fierce battle.

“Nick Frost in a horror-comedy” is the sort of sentence that inevitably invites comparisons to Shaun Of The Dead. Get Away is a markedly different beast to Frost’s iconic 2004 film debut: this is a horror-comedy set in Northern Sweden rather than North London, and there’s less of an affectionate genre homage going on here: while Get Away’s creepy Scandinavians and their strange rituals occasionally evoke Midsommar, there’s more of a droll holiday-gone-wrong vibe — Eden Lake meets National Lampoon’s Vacation, if you will.
That is cemented from minute one, with Cliff Richard’s ‘Summer Holiday’ blaring through the speakers of a hire car. This is where we meet Frost — on both acting and screenwriting duties — in pure dad mode as the affable Richard, cheerfully blurting out lines like, “All aboard the Skylark!” Aisling Bea, as his wife Susan, ably matches his energy, brightly calling him “Daddy...

Nick Frost takes his family on holiday to Sweden and things go terribly, gore-infestedly wrong. Here’s our Get Away review.
At a Q&a for his latest film Get Away, Nick Frost told the audience that the film was inspired by the holidays with his ex-wife to her home country of Sweden. Frost felt he was never quite welcome after getting off the ferry to a small Swedish island, and his experiences as an outsider in Sweden are brought vividly to life in Get Away.
Frost plays Richard, who embarks on a holiday at Svälta, a tiny little Swedish island, just as the community is preparing for their annual Karäntan celebrations. Before the family even steps foot on the island, they’re warned not to go there by an unfriendly cafe owner. Do the Brits listen? Obviously not.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Skeleton Crew's episode 7
Skeleton Crew episode 7 barrels toward the ending with plenty of answers, the threat of lightsabers, and Jude Law having a blast. Skeleton Crew season 2 may be possible after the show's ending, but episode 7 furthered the feeling of finality as the last episode beckons. Overall, I've had a blast with this show. From Skeleton Crew's many Easter eggs to its compelling characters and fun, easygoing, but no less interesting story, the show has been a delight.
Skeleton Crew follows four ordinary children who become lost in the expansive Star Wars galaxy. As they navigate unfamiliar worlds and the challenges they present, the group endeavors to find their way back to their home planet, undertaking a journey across the iconic Star Wars universe.
Release Date December 2, 2024Rating TV-PGCast Cass Buggé, Esai Daniel Cross, Vivienne Sachs, Robert Timothy Smith, Kyriana Kratter, Shane Almagor,...

Steven Spielberg is the most commercially successful director of all time, and his movies have made over $10 billion at the global box office. In a career spanning over 50 years, Spielberg has excelled in a variety of genres, including sci-fi, action, horror and drama. One common thread in all his creative pursuits has been massive box office success. Spielberg has set the record for the highest-grossing movie of all time on three separate occasions.
According to Spielberg himself, his first ever movie made a profit of $1. He made Firelight with a $500 budget when he was just 17, and his ticket sales from the one-night showing totaled $501. From these humble beginnings, Spielberg developed a career as a director of box office smashes. His highest-grossing movies aren't necessarily his best, since Schindler's List, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Catch Me If You Can all fail to crack the top ten, but he has...

The penultimate episode of Skeleton Crew has now been released, and "We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble" was as rewarding as it was terrifying from a story-telling perspective. It also left a massive problem to wrap up in the finale, which is a requirement for all good adventures.
Here are the 5 Best Moments of Skeleton Crew episode 7, "We're Gonna Be in So Much Trouble"1. "I don't even care anymore." After seeing Wim's quixotic focus in the first episode, Neel's world-defining kindness in Episode 4, and Kb's personal strength in "Zero Friends Again," I hoped this week to see a story explore more about Fern. I was not disappointed.

"Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" episode 7 is full of big space pirate reveals. Not only does Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) -- or whatever his real name is -- fully embrace his role as the show's true villain, but he kills Brutus in an almost casual fashion when the scowling Shistavanen is caught in the Onyx Cinder's claw. Even Sm-33 (voiced by Nick Frost) shows that he can override his hitherto strict adherence to the pirate code by siding with the kids when push comes to shove, although he does get decapitated for his troubles.
Among all these big twists, the episode also stealthily teases another, potentially even more important pirate-themed revelation -- namely, the true identity of famous pirate captain Tak Rennod, who just might turn out to be none other than...
