Eclectic country-rock band the Last Bandoleros appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday for an interview and a pretaped performance at venerable Texas dance hall Floore’s Country Store, in Helotes. The group recorded its new concert album, Live From Texas, at Floore’s and returned to the venue for a rendition of the Texas Tornados’ “Hey Baby, Que Pasó.”

Composed of the Navaira brothers on bass and drums — Diego and Emilio, respectively — and guitarists Jerry Fuentes and Derek James, the Bandoleros were joined by Percy Cardona on accordion for the GMA appearance.

Eclectic country/rock/Tejano group the Last Bandoleros have released a new song titled “Enamorado” — Spanish for “in love” — timed, not coincidentally, for Valentine’s Day.

The track, sung in both English and Spanish, features bassist Diego Navaira on lead, guitarist Jerry Fuentes on the bridge and the entire group, rounded out by drummer Emilio Navaira and guitarist Derek James, on the chorus. It’s the benefit of having four lead singers, a lineup that helps distinguish the Last Bandoleros as not just a rock band, but a vocal group as well.

When Grammy-winning entertainer Emilio Navaira died unexpectedly at age 53 in 2016, he left behind a major void not only in the Tejano music world but in the lives of his sons Diego and Emilio IV — the rhythm section of the Warner Music Nashville band the Last Bandoleros. The brothers played in their father’s group and viewed him as both Dad and a musical hero.
