Co-founded the Playbox Theatre in 1976 which is dedicated to the
creation, interpretation and promotion of theatre that reflects
Australia's cultural diversity, their place in the contemporary world
and, particularly, the Asia/Pacific region in which they live. From
1980-1984 and 1988-1993 he was artistic director there before retiring to
pursue his interest in Asia by becoming chairman of The Asialink
Centre, which promotes public understanding of the countries of Asia
and creates links with Asian counterparts at Melbourne University.
