The number of actors the Netflix TV series Cobra Kai has brought back to reprise their characters from the Karate Kid films has been very impressive. Not only do you have Ralph Macchio and William Zabka back as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence, but there’s also Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith as villains John Kreese and Terry Silver, Yuji Okumoto and Sean Kanan as villains-turned-allies Chozen Toguchi and Mike Barnes; Ron Thomas, Rob Garrison, and Tony O’Dell as Johnny’s former Cobra Kai buddies; and appearances by Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills, Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko, and Robyn Lively as Jessica Andrews. They even brought Traci Toguchi back as Yuna, the “Girl Bell Ringer” she played in The Karate Kid Part II. But one actor who might not be returning from the films is Hilary Swank, who played Julie Pierce in the 1994 film The Next Karate Kid.

"Cobra Kai" shocked everyone with its unbelievable return to "The Karate Kid" universe. The show, which was created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, is essentially one giant love letter to the original films. Not only is it smart, original, and funny, but it's also done an incredible job of tying in many of the characters from the first three films. (This particular writer is also desperate to see Hilary Swank reprise her role as Julie Pierce from "The Next Karate Kid.") Season 2 saw the epic and heartfelt return of Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) original Cobra Kai pals, Tommy (Rob Garrison), Bobby (Ron Thomas), and Jimmy (Tony O'Dell). Elisabeth Shue reprised her role as Ali Mills, and both Martin Cove and Thomas Ian Griffith have returned to the franchise as the show's formidable villains, John Kreese and Terry Silver, respectively.

This Cobra Kai article contains spoilers for season 5.
Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), and Sensei Kreese (Martin Kove) aren’t the only carry overs from the original three Karate Kid films. Far from it, Cobra Kai has been masterfully tapping its source by bringing back cast members from the movies, regularly serving the fans up with colorful Easter eggs.
Some of the original characters, like Lucille Larusso (Randee Heller), Daniel’s mom, have appeared throughout Cobra Kai. She has been seen in seasons 1, 2, and 4, which is more than she was seen in the latter two Karate Kid films. The original Cobra Kai gang from The Karate Kid Part I, Bobby (Ron Thomas), Jimmy (Tony O’Dell), and Tommy (Rob Garrison) were reunited with Johnny in season 2 in one of the most poignant episodes of the entire show – the death of Tommy. It’s an emotional irony when the...

This article contains spoilers for Cobra Kai season 3.
“Are you sure about that?”
Even without seeing who said it, fans of The Karate Kid knew exactly who it was. It had to be Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto), the nemesis of Daniel (Ralph Macchio) from The Karate Kid Part II. The line whetted our appetites at the end of the season 3 teaser released back in August 2020. In December, Netflix released the full season 3 trailer which confirmed the appearance of both Chozen and Daniel’s love interest, Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita).
Cobra Kai has made a habit of delivering heartwarming and nostalgic cameos from the cast of the original films throughout the series. In the first season, Randee Heller reprised her role as Daniel’s mom Lucille, and when Martin Kove joined the cast as the notorious Sensei Kreese, everything changed. Season 2 episode 6 reunited several of the original Cobra Kai dojomates: Tommy (Rob Garrison...

In just a couple of weeks, one of the most popular shows on the planet will return to our screens when season 3 of Cobrai Kai arrives on Netflix, marking the first run of episodes to be produced by the streaming service after they acquired the rights to the Karate Kid sequel series. The first two runs dominated the most-watched list and turned Cobra Kai into the most popular show in the entire content library when they were added back in August, and the brand new installments with a much bigger budget are expected to fare even better.
William Zabka and Ralph Macchio renewed their rivalry as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso, but several more familiar faces from the Karate Kid franchise have dropped by throughout the course of the series, including Tony O’Dell and the late Rob Garrison as Jimmy and Tommy, while season 3 sees The Karate Kid Part II...

Robert Garrison, an actor best known for his role as Tommy in the original The Karate Kid, a sequel and this year’s Cobra Kai series, has died, Deadline has confirmed. He was 59.
A cause of death was not officially released, though reports indicate he had been ill for a time.
“Rob was a great person and ambassador to The Karate Kid legacy,” said his rep Rick Henriques in a statement provided to Deadline. ” His performance in Season 2 of Cobra Kai, being his last, was simply amazing and he stole the episode. He will be missed by me and everyone he encountered”
As the franchise’s Tommy, Garrison made for an appropriately nasty foil for Ralph Macchio’s Daniel starting with the 1984 original film. He returned to the role in 1986’s Karate Kid: Part II and for an appearance in this year in the YouTube Premium Cobra Kai.

Billy Zabka, the actor who played the bully Johnny Lawrence in The Karate Kid, recently gave an anti-bullying talk. He was the keynote speaker at a dojo in Clarysville for their second annual Anti-Bullying Day. Zabka also brought along his friend Rob Garrison, who played "Get him a body bag!" Tommy. When talking about bullying in relation to the film, Zabka said:
“We were bullying, but we were also bullied. There’s a saying: ‘a bully is a victim whose story has not yet been told,’ so there’s not just black and white.”
He went on to use Johnny as an example, saying:
"There’s people who’re dishing out what’s being given to them at home. Not to excuse their behavior, but that’s why the behavior has to stop; because it’s cyclical and it progresses and it reaches us and it may be in us,...

With the new version of The Karate Kid opening in theaters this weekend, let's imagine another kind of remake of the classic film, one in which Johnny (William Zabka) wins the tournament and trophy. Don't like that idea? Maybe it's only Zabka himself who dreams about such an ending, fantasizing about it from his trailer home while surrounded by the actors who played his Cobra Kai brethren. This is part of the premise of a No More Kings music video from a few years back that Zabka wrote, directed and starred in. The song is called "Sweep the Leg," which references the memorable line spoken by Martin Kove in the original film. Kove also appears in the video reprising his role as the Cobra Kai sensei, Kreese, and for some reason plays another part that pays homage to Randall 'Tex' Cobb's bounty hunter character from Raising Arizona.
