Manmohan Desai had first tried to start the film "Love Birds" in 1982 /83 with Kumar Gaurav and Dimple Kapadia. It was going to be a Hindi and English bilingual film based on the Summer of 42. They attempted to restart the film with Jugal Hansraj and Pratibha Sinha (Replaced Shabana Dutt) in 1992. But the story line was different .The title "Sweetheart " was also registered. Once again it was shelved for unknown reasons. Years later later it was finally made as "Anmol " with Rishi Kapoor and Manisha.

Tito Juneja claimed he had bought the Hindi remake rights of Payanangal Mudivathillai . He was to make the film with Kumar Gaurav in 1983. But producer Subba Rao claimed he owned the remake rights and was going to start the film with Kamal Haasan in the lead. The films were eventually never made.

In 1982 Amit Khanna planned a film titled Ghar Aaya Pardesi. He had signed Kumar Gaurav and Rati Agnihothri for the film. It was shelved after the announcement.

Kumar Gaurav was credited as the producer in The Train and assistant director in Satyam Shivam Sundaram with the name "Manoj R. Kumar". This caused confusion among many people. Kumar Gaurav was credited with that name because "Manoj" is his real name and "Kumar" is his father's screen surname.

The film Tawaif was planned with Salma Agha in 1982. The title was "Bahut Der Se". Rishi Kapoor and Kumar Gaurav were approached for the lead roles. When Salma and B.R. Chopra had a falling out,she was replaced from the film. Next Kumar Gaurav was replaced by Deepak Parashar.

In 1981/1982, Rajkumar Kohli was planning a sequel to Nagin(1976) titled "Laut Ayee Nagin". He had signed Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Rakesh Roshan, Kumar Gaurav and Reena Roy. The film was shelved after announcement .
