The passage of time has not been kind to Marvel’s Avengers.
Crystal Dynamics’ action-rpg, which billed itself as an adventure that gamers and comic book fans alike could find near-endless entertainment with (such is the premise of live service experiences), has seemingly failed to capture the hearts and minds of either camp, as recent estimates suggest the project has resulted in tremendous financial losses for publisher Square Enix. For many, that news will come as little surprise considering the meager, at best, concurrent player numbers recorded for the title on Steam a few weeks back, but any subsequent hopes of a recovery appear to be evaporating, and fast.
According to a post by industry analyst David Gibson on Twitter, Square has reported a ¥6.5 billion loss tied to Marvel’s Avengers which, when converted to the US dollar, translates to approximately $60 million. To put that figure into further perspective, sale...

- We Got This Covered
Square Enix has posted its earnings for the first half of the fiscal year, and a financial hit to its Digital Entertainment: HD Games division has pointed a clear finger at Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers for helping to create an operating loss of more than $48 million in the second quarter. This has been compounded by the continuing success of Square Enix’s Mmo division, which has posted profits in both quarters thanks in large part to games like Final Fantasy Xiv.
The writing was on the wall early on for Marvel’s Avengers when the Crystal Dynamics team had precious little time to fix issues arising from the beta version before the game was released. Since then, despite the team behind the game working incredibly hard to correct its course, it’s occasionally been compared to BioWare’s Anthem, a title largely mocked for its notoriously troubled launch last year.

John Landis made his first dent in Hollywood with this hilarious parody of Z-grade monster movies, and it was big enough to launch a film career. The kudos go to Landis’ comic monkey-man performance, wearing a Schockthropus ape suit by the 20 year-old self taught makeup whiz Rick Baker. Only monster movie fans will understand, but they’ll be charmed. This foreign edition is stacked with schlock-thropic extras.
