The ending is the most important part of a movie. It is what creates the effects and emotions the audience is left with. Some endings imprint themselves on viewers’ minds and some continue to amaze audiences no matter how much time has passed.
Movies with cliffhangers and shocking endings that keep the audience on the edge of their seats are hard to come by. With their twisted narratives and layered plotlines, these movies make the viewers question what they think they know. They progress subtly, until the final jaw-dropping scene changes everything and has one thinking about it for days.
The ultimate element of surprise can truly make or break a film. Sometimes, a movie’s performance can be judged on how impactfully it leaves one stunned. Hence, here is a list of movies that can potentially leave one scratching their heads; ranked from better to best.

MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. So, we thought of compiling every project that exists in the MonsterVerse and ranking them according to their Rotten Tomatoes score, here it is.

A host of new names have been added to the cast of dark comedy The Gallerist, joining the already-announced Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega.
Details regarding filmmaker Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist are being kept mostly under wraps, but here’s what we do know so far: the dark comedy is set to enter production next month in France and has been written by the Birds Of Prey director alongside James Pederson. Yan will direct with the story said to ‘focus on a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami’ – the latter being an upscale art show where tickets are around $85 per person (though kids get in for $10).
The project has already cast Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega. Thanks to World Of Reel, we’ve picked now up details regarding the supporting cast for The Gallerist – and it’s quite an ensemble.

Andor proved itself to be one of the most effective examples of storytelling in the galaxy far, far away. The series serves as a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One and explores the backstory of Cassian Andor played by Diego Luna. The series received almost overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and is expected to return with a second season.

Even early into its theatrical release 10 years ago, Dan Gilroy’s 2014 thriller Nightcrawler felt like an instantly timeless classic. For starters, writer-director Gilroy’s startlingly confident debut made an immediate impression as an iconic Los Angeles movie, with immersive neo-noir vibes and unsettling chills bolstering its impeccable cinematic craft and rich thematic aims.

There is nothing quite like the exciting expectation of a well-made thriller, whether we’re in a dark theater or the comfort of our own homes. This type of fiction is great at keeping people on the edge of their seats, with their hearts racing and minds desperately trying to figure out what’s going on. These must-see thrillers aren’t just chase scenes and shadowy figures; they’ve grown into complex psychological puzzles that play with our darkest fears and make us think about what we think we know.
The best thriller movies have always pushed the limits of storytelling, from Hitchcock’s superb use of anxiety to current psychological warfare on screen. I don’t know how much movies should entertain, said David Fincher, a director. It always interests me when movies make you feel bad. Dan Gilroy's "Nightcrawler" is designed to make you feel ill at ease. When small-time thief Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is first introduced, the discomfort evoked stems from the desperation late-stage capitalism embeds into our souls and how it pushes us towards unsavory avenues. However, once Bloom pawns a stolen bicycle for a camcorder, and we are forced to dissect violent, extreme crime scenes with him, the true, eerie heart of "Nightcrawler" is revealed. Bloom isn't just pushed into taking such ethically void measures to ensure his survival: he actively hungers for these excesses, as seen in his wide-eyed, unblinking gaze, which Gyllenhaal invests with an unsettling intensity that grants "Nightcrawler" its discomfiting tint. It is an experience that comes alive solely because of him, and Gyllenhaal carries this burden by channeling a haunting, career-defining performance that is both subtle and felt deeply in our bones.

King Kong did not, in fact, have, er, doo-doo on Denzel Washington at the turn of the 21st century. Fresh off his second Oscar win (and his first as a lead performer) for playing dirty LAPD detective Alonzo Harris in Antoine Fuqua's "Training Day," the capital-m Movie Star made a habit of working with his old friends over the decade that followed. Indeed, if one were to run through his resume, one would note that most of Washington's films in the 2000s were directed by either one of his former collaborators or Denzel himself. Then again, if your pals were Spike Lee, Tony Scott, Jonathan Demme, and the under-appreciated Carl Franklin, you'd want to make all of your movies with them too.

“Magazine Dreams” is back in circulation: The Jonathan Majors movie has been picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment for a first-quarter 2025 U.S. theatrical release. Original distributor Searchlight Pictures dropped the indie film after Majors was convicted of assault.
The Elijah Bynum film first premiered at Sundance in 2023, where it was acquired by Searchlight. “Magazine Dreams was given a primo awards-season release, with Majors in particular being considered a Best Actor contender.
But following the December 2023 conviction of Majors on a charge of assault and harassment, Searchlight sent the film back to the open market, where it stayed in limbo for nearly a year.

Jonathan Majors’ bodybuilding drama Magazine Dreams has found a path to theaters after being dropped by Searchlight in January following the star’s criminal conviction.
Briarcliff has picked up the project for distribution, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed, and plans to release it in theaters in the first quarter of 2025. The Tom Ortenberg-run distributor has a history of acquiring controversial projects, and will release the Donald Trump feature The Apprentice later this month after no major Hollywood studio would touch it.
Writer-director Elijah Bynum’s Magazine Dreams bowed at Sundance in 2023 to rave reviews for Majors’ performance as amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox, with the actor earning early awards buzz. Disney-owned Searchlight acquired the project after a bidding war, but ultimately dropped the movie after Majors was convicted of assault and harassment, stemming from an incident involving his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari.
Searchlight returned the film to producers and allowed them to shop it.

With nine Oscar nominations and two wins, Denzel Washington's legacy as one of the finest actors in Hollywood is well-established. But even without the accolades, the man's talent speaks for itself. Often this is literally the case. Alfred Hitchcock once told Francois Truffaut, "The chief requisite for an actor is the ability to do nothing well" — something that frequent Hitch collaborator James Stewart had down to a tee. Even Stewart's quiet charisma arguably can't quite match Denzel's effortless magnetism, though. The man can make doing nothing look good like no other. But he can also do a lot when required, and has demonstrated his adaptability across one of the most impressive filmographies in Hollywood.
In 2017, Washington spoke to The Inquirer about his approach to acting at the age of 60. "I'm trying to get better," Washington told the outlet, "This ain't dress rehearsal. I really don't know how many...

Exclusive: Arthouse streamer and distributor Mubi is set to re-release Tarsem’s cult 2006 film The Fall in a newly restored 4K version from 27 September 2024 in the US, Canada, Latin America, the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Benelux, Turkey and India. The Match Factory is handling sales for the rest of the world.
The 4K restoration will have its world premiere at this year’s Locarno Film Festival where it will play on the Piazza Grande. Mubi will subsequently stream it on its service.
Set in Los Angeles, circa 1920s, the visually striking movie charts the story of an immigrant girl in a hospital recovering from a fall who strikes up a friendship with a bedridden man. He captivates her with a whimsical story that removes her far from the hospital doldrums into the exotic landscapes of her imagination.
Filmed over four years in 20 different locations across the globe, the movie starred Lee Pace, Catinca Untaru and Justine Waddell. The film was originally presented by David Fincher and Spike Jonze, with a script from Dan Gilroy and Nico Soultanakis.
Reviews were mixed for the film and it failed to ignite at the box office, but its visuals were highly praised and Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars, calling it a singular work: “You might want to see [it] for no other reason than because it exists. There will never be another like it,” he said.
After debuting at Toronto back in 2006, the film became very hard to track down on streaming services and director Tarsem recently expressed hope the feature would soon get a revival.
Tarsem Singh, known as Tarsem, is also known for movies such as The Cell, starring Jennifer Lopez, The Immortals starring Henry Cavill, Mirror Mirror starring Julia Roberts and Self/less with Ryan Reynolds. The filmmaker is also well known for his music videos, including Rem’s Losing My Religion, which won MTV’s Best Video Award. In 2023, he directed his first feature film in Punjabi, Dear Jassi which won the Platform Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s easy to assume that a screenwriter with the last name Gilroy had an effortless foray into show business, but that was anything but the case for Fly Me to the Moon’s Rose Gilroy.
As the daughter of Dan Gilroy and Rene Russo, as well as niece to Tony and John Gilroy, Rose attempted to steer away from the family business by trying her hand at pre-med and pre-law trajectories during college, but neither option ended up being in the cards for her. Upon graduating Colgate University in 2016, she then modeled for a stretch, but it soon became apparent that writing was in her DNA as well. After all, she’s also the granddaughter of the late Frank D. Gilroy, who won a Pulitzer and a Tony for his 1965 play, The Subject Was Roses.

Shelley Duvall and I crossed paths at the moment I needed her most.
It was late 2020. Covid lockdowns, George Floyd, media layoffs — everything sucked, and it wasn’t getting better. I adopted a French bulldog puppy to help me cope and named him Otto. Otto would scream every night until I brought him into bed with me, then poop in my duvet.
I tried to maintain a sense of normalcy at work. I wrote a piece for The Hollywood Reporter commemorating the 40th anniversary of Robert Altman’s Popeye. I had not seen the film since 1980. Seeing it again, I was utterly bewitched by Duvall. Her Olive Oyl, twirling around a wooden post singing “He Needs Me,” struck me as being one of the great movie musical moments.
That got me thinking about her. Where was Shelley? What was she up to? I recalled the Dr. Phil appearance — who could forget it?...

Shelley Duvall, the great actress best known for playing Wendy Torrance in “The Shining” and her performances for Robert Altman, has died. She was 75. Her partner, Dan Gilroy, confirmed the news of her passing first to The Hollywood Reporter. Duvall had been suffering from complications from diabetes, according to Gilroy. They lived in Blanco, Texas, where Duvall had been on retreat from Hollywood since the ’90s, appearing in TV and independent film.
“My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley,” Gilroy told the outlet.
In a statement shared with IndieWire, Scott Goldberg, director of Duvall’s final film “The Forest Hills,” said, “Shelley leaves behind an amazing legacy and will be missed by so many people, myself included. I am proud of her for overcoming adversity to act again and will always be forever grateful for her friendship and kindness.

Shelley Duvall, the big-eyed, waifish performer who won the Cannes actress award for Robert Altman’s “3 Women” and endured Stanley Kubrick’s intense directing techniques to star in “The Shining,” died Thursday in Blanco, Texas, Variety confirmed with her partner Dan Gilroy. She was 75.
Duvall was known for working with director Altman, who cast her in “Brewster McCloud” as her first screen role. She went on to appear in his films “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” and “Thieves Like Us” before starring as part of the ensemble cast of “Nashville” in 1975. After gaining attention in “Nashville,” Altman cast her in “Buffalo Bill and the Indians,” then gave her unusual screen presence a chance to shine in “3 Women,” for which she won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress as well as a BAFTA nomination.
Also in 1977, Duvall played a Rolling Stone journalist in Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall,...

When the big-budget sci-fi/boxing flick hybrid "Real Steel" brawled its way into theaters on October 7, 2011, it was ridiculed by some as "Rock'em Sock'em Robots: The Motion Picture." On one hand, the $110 million-budgeted film's blockbuster pedigree of star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy did little to suggest the film was anything more than this. But anyone who grew up gorging on Rod Serling's original run of "The Twilight Zone" in syndication or reading the novels and short stories of Richard Matheson knew there was more to "Real Steel," at least in theory, than family friendly mechanical mayhem.
Obviously, with that budget, Disney (which distributed the DreamWorks production) wasn't going to sell the film primarily on its connection to a nearly 50-year-old black-and-white television show. As for Matheson, while he's considered a god of 20th century sci-fi/fantasy/horror literature by publishing heavyweights like Stephen King and Neil Gaiman,...

After reprising his role as Star Wars villain Director Orson Krennic last year in The Bad Batch, it looks like Rogue One actor Ben Mendelsohn is eyeing a return to that galaxy far, far away for Andor Season 2. Just last weekend, Diego Luna — who plays the eponymous rebel in both Gareth Edwards' film and Tony Gilroy's series — teased to fans at Ace Superhero Comic Con that "there will be characters that you recognise" in the Peabody award-winning show's second series. And now, in an interview with The Playlist, Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios — director of the last three episodes of Andor's upcoming series — has let slip that Mendelsohn is among the recognisable characters fans can expect to see when the show returns.
Whilst singing the praises of his experience working on Andor, Ruizpalacios paid tribute to the heavyweight actors he'd had chance to direct on the show, specifically naming “Stellan Skarsgård,...

Ahsoka was a successful Star Wars show that received high viewership and critical acclaim. While the series enjoys a vast family fanbase, there are hardcore fans who believe that it couldn’t live up to the gritty storytelling of Andor. Ahsoka was written and produced as a sequel to the animated series, Star Wars Rebels, which appealed to the family audiences. However, the Diego Luna-led series appealed to a more mature audience.

Andor also received critical acclaim and several accolades, but it couldn’t find the viewership success of Ahsoka. However, fans expect these stats to improve once the second season of the series drops on Disney+.
