Public concern over the use of Naled, a chemical that's being deployed in airborne anti-Zika efforts, is rising in the South, particularly around Miami, Florida. A public protest outside of South Beach's City Hall Wednesday prompted Miami-Dade officials to delay the start of aerial spraying, but only for 24 hours. Naled is banned in the European Union, and its use in Puerto Rico - one of the areas hit hardest by the Zika virus - was protested by officials who derided it as dangerous for pregnant women. "Naled… can essentially kill anything," Tanjim Hossain, a graduate research fellow at the University of Miami,...

Chicago – Criterion Collection Blu-ray releases start from a more critically safe place than most films simply by their selection process. What I mean is that it’s easier to produce a quality Blu-ray from a Kurosawa or Hitchcock film than, say, “Scary Movie 5.” The implied stamp of quality given to the film itself before you even see the transfer or special features elevates the way we approach the material.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
However, Criterion certainly does much more than merely present their chosen classics. Take the case of “The Devil’s Backbone,” a film I know and love, one of the best horror flicks of the ’00s and the second-best film that “Pacific Rim” director Guillermo Del Toro has ever made. The special features for “The Devil’s Backbone” don’t just accompany this gorgeous, perfectly-transferred master-work, they enhance your appreciation of it. There are few people in the industry smarter...

David Beckham is already wanted back in the game. The city of Miami is looking to get its hands on the newly retired superstar to help bring a Major League Soccer franchise back to town. "We're ready and we're excited about the possibility of having top-flight professional soccer back in Miami," Mayor Carlos Gimenez said. "With people from all over the world living in our community, this is an ideal market for Mls and David Beckham is the right person to make it happen." The Miami Fusion closed up shop in 2001 after only three years, leaving four professional sports teams based in the city. In Miami today, Beckham toured two possible homes for an Mls team, Sun Life Stadium,...
